What could this pink/purple gemstone be?

My late grandma gave me this ring from her safe some years ago and due to her recent passing I started wondering what it could be. Due to summer holidays sending it off to a gemologist lab will take weeks and I will be departing for a month long trip soon. So I'd rather send it off when I'm back in August, but would highly appreciate any input what it could be in the meantime.

Since a jeweller (who needs to send it to the lab) said she can't say based on the colour alone I guess it's not easy from only pictures. But I took several in different light conditions. Maybe someone came across something similar... some first guesses are amethyst (although it leans more on the pinkish than purple side). My uneducated guess from googling is bi-colour colour changing sapphire, but what do I know.

Based off the UV, I'd say either synthetic sapphire or synthetic spinel. Purple spinel doesn't fluoresce at all, and natural purple sapphires fluoresces weakly. As far as I know, purple garnets, tourmalines, and amethysts do not fluoresce under UV.

Please let us know what it is after it comes from the lab. The ring is beautiful, and the color of the stone is very attractive and pleasant to look at. And of course, it is what your Grandmother wanted you to have, wear and enjoy.

I will, but based on my travel schedules I guess I will have results in early September only... I will also have the ring resized. Actually there are two of these (one still in the safe) and she said one belonged to my father and the other to my uncle. Both passed before her... back then she told me to take whatever I want out of the safe. In hindsight I should have, but back then it seemed inappropriate to me as I expected her to live much much longer

Sorry for the late update, but I got off the phone with the jeweler who sent it to a lab and the stone is a synthetic corundom. His first thought was glass from the colour, so it is better than expected... I will have the ring resized. Thank you again for your feedback @voce and @Musia!
