What causes a diamond to be "milky"? (Other than high flourescence?)

Are there other variables that factor into this?

#1 and #2 are lotion and sunscreen
dirt grime and poop
inclusions/micro inclusions
crystal defects
graining
cut
poor polish
water spots

I see :) Here is a diamond description. It shows milky as medium and the shade as off white. Some show white, some off white. Just thought that was interesting. It is a g vs1 without flourescence. excuse my blue light filter.Screenshot_20200315-011312.png

I do not quite expect to see a cloudy VS1, but, seeing is believing.

Also, you may find diamonds with strong fluorescence and great crystal, the strongest fluorescence, when active (eg sunlight) will show as a blue tint, but it is bright itself, not just shading/dull like 'milkiness' - there are very few objects with as strong fluorescence as GIA 'Very Strong' & even fewer transparent at all, so not much to compare with IRL.

Even translucency may come from several types of crystal growth features that GIA calls 'grain' and 'clouds'. Strong fluorescence looks surreal when there is also some graining; diamonds are not expected to look that way & however, these stones are something else.

Thanks @AV_ so in the comments section on the GIA report, surface graining not shown is a possible factor?

In my opinion you are up against a variety of possibilities. While graining is one possibility, I don't think you can consider it the one, true answer here.

In that stone there is possibly brownish graining in a D color stone making it G.
Clouds and Internal graining are the main offenders.
External grain is not likely to cause cloudiness but can reduce the fire and life.

The clarity grade tells me how easy to see these clarity characteristics are - to be found with 10X magnification, if you can (not I)

Thank you so much @Garry H (Cut Nut) . May I ask, is it the "off white" shade that leads you to that conclusion? I don't see any mention of internal graining listed. As a consumer, we usually don't get any type of shade or milky commentary on a stone. Just the GIA which doesn't have that kind of information. Does Rapnet offer that kind of detail to those in the trade?

We have too little info to give you an educated guess let alone an opinion.
And I think this is a stone you are discussing on multiple threads - that does not work for me

@Garry H (Cut Nut) , I have never asked about this stone. I was just using the template with the information to point to a milky description on a stone, any stone. I know not to post on several threads. I did ask about a 1.26 gvs1 regarding a big cloud. This is not that stone. I will cool it with the questions. Sorry if I offended you in any way.

cloud inclusions with a description of inclusion pattern concentrated and the inclusions are shade: off white ,,could make a diamond milky in some areas.
That looks like a dealers notes that detail is not on the gia report:

I really like answering your questions but this thread is annoying.
You asked a question and I spent my time answering, then you posted this is really my question.
So its a double dip on my time.
I was really considering just not answering.

Omg. I am confused. I certainly didn't,mean to offend in any way. I was just trying to show you why I was asking in the first place. Show that report.@Karl_K? I am so sorry. I look forward to your answers. They teach me so much. Yes, I do think this is dealers notes, not on Gia report. I found this site online that shows this type of detail. That is what got me curious. I never saw a stone described as milky or as a shade of white. Please accept my apology.
