Australian internet sites have been playing clips of Trump saying he wants to slow or reduce social distancing measures, mainly due to the fact he can see that it's causing an economic crisis.

If that is true and not taken out of the context WTF. Australia has closed massive numbers of businesses, all pubs, clubs, places that more than 10 people can gather are closed. 2 million Aussies are now out of work.

The US is nuts if it thinks you should reverse social distancing. Your Government did too little too late. A large number of people in the US are going to be infected, lets hope that the State governments have more competent people that can mobilised medical resources and prevent high numbers of deaths.

The disease itself isn't the only issue..... The lines for welfare because people are out of jobs in Australia were snaking down city blocks. You are in for an economic and financial crisis far far worse than the GFC.

It's a double sh@#storm of epic proportions. Massive job losses, massive hits to the global economy and a disease that spreads like wildfire and kills people.... AND as far as I can see President that cannot rationally handle all that......

Also Trumps vague reassurances that appropriate PPE is coming doesnt make me feel better. Hospitals are running out in real time right now. Nurses in Oregon are being threatened disciplinary action if they refuse to see patients without PPE if it runs out because “social contract”. Total crap.

May I ask what state you live in @1ofakind? Do you live in a city or a suburban or rural area?. My guess is you live in an area that has not been hit hard with COVID-19. You may feel a little different if you lived in a state and area that is getting hit hard or if you fall in the age group that has a higher rate of mortality.

Please try to keep in mind some of us live in states that are being hit hard with this virus.

Alright then. It is my prerogative and yours as well. Let's not try to fool each other though about your post and mine. At times you enjoy making your points, talking at people, and making snide remarks. I make passive aggressive remarks at times. We are who we are.

As to the video I have no idea what she meant but I take her at her word it was just to display her opinion that Trump is crazy. Ok. However, I do think it irrational to say that it's Trump's fault that someone died ingesting fish tank cleaner.

This is purely anecdotal, but my bf has recently been flooded by requests for face masks (priced in China are controlled). One of his acquaintances asked him to place an order for thousands for his wife's hospital- since they don't have enough.

It's just....insanity to me? Aside from the fact that we can't place orders like that (buying restrictions), the very fact that hospitals now have to rely on private donations is crazy to me.

I agree completely with you. This is terrifying and no healthcare provider signed up for this. To risk their lives saving others. WTH is happening and why can't the USA get more PPEs are quickly. Where are all the rich celebrities who are always preaching to help others now? We need PPEs (and more ventilators and meds) and we need them NOW.

At times like these we need connections more than ever. To boost our spirits and our morale and to find an inner strength to get through this. And people also remember what is truly important during crises and those are the people we love and people we may have fallen out of touch with for various reasons. First off if you go back and look at the post about infecting journalists I didn't click Like. I did it for the previous responses on the blaming of Trump for the death of the guy who drank fish tank cleaner. I never responded about the video. So there is no response to be made to you. I answered your question.

If your remark I quoted upthread isn't snide then we have very different ideas about the meaning. Do you want actual conversation about your points you made to the poster or are you just talking at her, or doing it for the others? If a gov't is going to get rid of social distancing before the peak of infection, then that gov't is advocating higher death rates, overwhelming hospitals and collapse of society to whatever extent. I HOPE that doesn't actually happen. It is a dangerous message for those of us who are hoping to live through this.
