What are your thoughts on how government is handling COVID-19

The stimulus plan proposal is out for anyone who wants to read it. Hopefully it get the help where it is needed. Will it be enough? I am glad there will be help for those who are all of a sudden unemployed.

I think the scientific names are more informative than the geographic names. But I also feel that this is the Chinese government's fault in delaying and under reporting. The Chinese people had no say in that. Whistleblowers mostly ended up dead. Blame the government(s), but not the people. The people did as they were told as far as I know, and had no choice in the matter.
Yup, i.e. the 40 yr old Optometrist who mysteriously die after he let the cat out of the bag. You open your mouth w/o permission from the Chinese government = death penalty.

I steer clear of US politics, really. I can see both sides. But I will say I'm very worried for the US right now. There is a poor response to social distancing in several places. There are bleeping celebrities out there saying that their "freedom" is worth more than worrying about this little "respiratory virus". People are putting their children at risk, and they have fans and a platform. It blows my mind that Spring Break is still mostly happening right now.

I know no one on this board would be that careless or stupid. But it breaks my heart and my mind to think that there will literally be millions of people affected and dead in the US because of the decisions of those who don't believe in the severity.

I can't say this is the case in Canada. Yes, we have our share of stupid, wreckless people too. But we are further spread apart, and we are having a decent response to the social distancing ideals. We are also having a lot shaming happening online. It's kind of scary. We're still hoarding. We, not me. I sincerely hope that everyone here will be okay in the end. I'm fearful, but I'm doing all I can.

Yeah, calling it Chinese or Wuhan virus is technically correct in respect to origin, but you are not helping your fellow Asian Americans feel any safer or less targeted. Yes, we are Americans too, and we're trying to tell you that those words make us fear for our safety.
I didn't feel unsafe when they call the HK flu the HK flu.

Let's all pass on conspiracy theories, they do no good.

Was it also reprehensible when we called the London flu the London flu?.

I'm sure a few Dr. in China knew about this virus a few weeks before the chinese government announced to the world after it gotten out of control in Wuhan. These doctors were afraid for their lives if they let the cat out of the bag.

Every news in China are censored by the government that's how a communist country operates. You can't speak freely w/o permission from the government. Look what happened to the optometrist who spoke too early about the virus, he was first arrested and then mysteriously die at the young age of 40.

Not true, the London flu originated in India. The swine flu was found in the USA and Mexico at the same time. Let's all progress to calling it was it is, Covid-19. Also the Spanish flu originated in China they think.

It is the Wuhan virus to me because that is how all other viruses have been named for their origin. "Chinese" is not specific enough and smacks of an ulterior motive. The Chinese government has their hands very dirty for the spread of this pandemic and that should never be forgotten.

I suppose when the right stops siding with Russia.

China accuses that COVID19 came from the US. I wish the left would stop siding with China... The whole world knows where the virus came from.

More people would have suffered had Trump not closed the gate on Chinese flights coming in from China a month ago, but of course he was labeled as racist by the left wingers back then..

Yes and then closing border a few weeks later to EU when virus already clearly here. He is sooooo smart. Such effective leadership. Just like the VP and everyone left in Trump’s administration says. Hahahahaha.

My bad. Should never use the word "all" when "most" will suffice. ;))

Also thanks to everyone who has offered their sympathies for me! It really does help my morale to know that most people here have my back. It's no fun feeling like maybe you're wrong and everyone does secretly hate you and wants you to "go back where you came from".

Literally in the hospital today I had a patient say "you're chinese! You have Covid!" Granted the patient was a child and honestly seemed to quite like me so we did some gentle educating. I don't think he meant to be mean, kids often say things because they're repeating what they've heard elsewhere. Doesn't bode well.

And I'm glad you don't. No one should have to fear for their safety no matter where they're from or where they live.

When Trump calls this "China virus", should I feel indifferent because I'm not Chinese? I'll somehow be spared from hatred and violence? I'm a grown woman, I can take care of myself against ignorant people. But what about my children? Will they feel safe like you do?

Reading the back and forth on this topic here, I'm not angry but am deeply saddened by the ignorance and dismissive tone from some people. You can choose to believe this will have no lasting impact, while some of us, American people, will have to live with it long after the pandemic becomes a distant memory.

Love and strength to you MTG. Thank you for your skill and humanity!

Somehow it's worse when innocent children reflect the ignorance of adults around them.

Keep up the important work you're doing and keep your head high. You're an amazing human being.

T, not a conspiracy theories. There are also missing chinese reporters whose families have no idea where they are now after reporting about the virus. The true stories that the chinese communist government don't allow for the public see. Americans don't understand how the communist Chinese government operates. They keep an eye on you every minute of the day.

Let me tell you a story. This was about 12 yrs ...

My SIL and her teenage son went to China for a vacation, her son bought an anti communist poster not knowing what it was b/c he don't understand chinese. He thought it was a neat poster so he bought it as a souvenir, then later on that night the police went to their hotel and arrested both of them and was thrown in jail, and then was questioned for hours by the police before they were finally released. All this b/c of a Fking poster her son bought w/o knowing it was a anti communist poster.

All of us here would be executed (if we were living in china) for the things we say about our government.

As usual, you're both misrepresenting what I said and missing the point. I'm not "siding with China" - not even remotely. I'm saying that it's a tactical error to be getting in a fight at the current moment with one of the two countries that has the most data and expertise to share about this virus and illness, considering that we haven't yet reached the critical peak of cases here. We need their expertise to save lives, and at the current moment that is more important than playing the blame game. Yes, the whole world knows where the virus came from - so it doesn't matter if China accuses us, and no one needs to call it the "China virus", for the whole world knows the truth. Yes, there are grave issues with how the Chinese government handled this that are having disastrous consequences for the rest of the world, and that is absolutely going to have to be dealt with, but there is a time for that, and NOW IS NOT THAT TIME.

Additionally, several people on this forum are already dealing with hostility from some irrational members of the public blaming people of Asian descent in general for all of this, including a doctor who's trying hard to do her job, and his blame-game stuff is just making that worse - so it's hurting innocent people, including American citizens.

Normally you are on ignore for your nasty comments that you make to me regularly.

I do not condone physical or verbal assaults of any kind to anyone. I have plenty of compassion, humanity and decency but rarely receive that from you. If you'd like to make some changes that would be welcome for sure.

She said absolutely nothing nasty to you in this post. She simply made a request, and tried to explain clearly and simply why she was asking. It was done politely. Can you not respond to the actual content of her post? This post did not deserve this response. Her request echoes the concerns and distress expressed not just by her, but many fellow Pricescope members of Asian descent on many threads here.

I'll never side with Communism or Socialism. When Trump said (we'll never be a socialist country) during his state of the union I stand up and :appl:but of course all the Dems sat on their ass...

Yup, either you keep your mouth shut or die. Don't be a whistleblower in China or else you'll be dead . Americans don't seem to understand what is like to live under a communist regime.

I think most of us realize the negatives of living under a communist regime.

100% agree. We have to work together with all the info we can accumulate to slow this outbreak and eventually stop it and treat those who are affected and save as many lives as possible. Now is not the time for blame nor it is the time to be divisive and we have to protect the people. All the people.

I'm really saddened by some people here. I have not heard anyone call it the china virus or the Wuhan virus here. I can't believe the response to "would you please not use this racial slang as it puts people at risk" is "who cares, you were mean to me" ???? What on earth is wrong with people.

Does anyone here actually believe that people who use racial slurs toward anyone would not do it because of the name of the virus? People who use them do it no matter the instance or the opportunity, it is who they are. I am sorry for anyone who has to endure such people and their ignorance. That is a fact and nothing anyone says here can change it. As to @JPie I am sorry for responding in such a way to you because it was not nice. But you hurt me deeply and regularly without knowing me at all. I am angry at this whole mess and would expect others to understand that as much as they expect me to understand them.

Edit - I live 1500 miles from my 98 year old grandmother who only has my loser uncle for help. It pisses me off.

And I will never support communism or socialism, I will support single payer health because it's good for my country and I have read long and hard on socialism.

When pubs sit on their ass I'll sit on mine for pubs till respect is given to democratic presidents.

The utter shameful shows the pubs put on during Obama's state of the unions is deplorable.

Or some because even those in the past are inaccurate.

we are in a real mess. it's actually starting to scare me a bit and I don't scare at all unless its something to do with my sons or grand. :)

My bad. Should never use the word "all" when "most" will suffice. ;))

@MakingTheGrade Hello doc, I've been reading your posts, thank you for your dedication and work we are lost without the hard work of all the medical people in our country.

I really dislike the term Chinese virus, it's racist, mean, ugly and creates hate. So remember you are an American of Chinese descent, I am an American of Irish, English, and Polish heritage but I am an American first and foremost. Thank you again Doctor, I'm glad you are on the team.
