Beau, you know what they say...you get what you pay for. That probably isn''t a good quality setting at that price. I might buy something like that to put an inexpensive colored stone in, but not my diamond.

Did you ever contact any vendors in NY? Is that still on?
And I agree, you get what you pay for...I just can''t see throwing all this money away.![]()

2of2, if I recall correctly, it''s not the setting, or cost of, that is prohibiting beau from getting what she wants. It''s that no one wants to set her stone (I ''think'' that''s it) where she lives (in Canada), because she didn''t buy the stone from them, and she won''t send it to the US to someone who will.
beau, please correct me if I got any of that wrong!
I only buy rings I DO love...they just happen to come to me at great prices..don't hate me because I love to find the deals!! LOLDate: 1/13/2008 9:36:01 PM

Ditto...you seem to really like getting inexpensive settings and rings, and you equate those to a good deal, but if you buy 3 or 4 different $400 settings, you could have just saved up the $1600 and gotten something you really like that is high quality.
I think you should decide exactly what you want, and then try to find it. You can definitely search for a deal once you've figured out what you really want.
You should only buy something because you actually like it and want it, not just because it's inexpensive.
YOU are VERY correct Ellen! It''s not like I''m being cheap, if I see something I want/like, I buy it, at whatever cost (just ask my darling husband). I live in a small town where it seems some jewlers are bitter and won'' set my diamond because I didn''t buy it from them. I even offered to pay double whatever the setting fee is. Maybe now since a few months have passed, I can walk into a store, and if there is a mount I like, ask once again, if they will set my diamond into it. The last time I did that, the owner said "we are behind..we have customers who bought their diamonds here, waiting for us to mount them, so it would be unfair to take time to set your diamond, which was not purchased here!" That was only a month or so after I asked that jeweler to find me a diamond, and he came up with nothing in the size I wanted! So, I took my business elsewhere. I know my setting is not permanent, so in the meantime, I have been playing around with various bands to see how they look with the current 4.5mm wide cathedral. I would love to find a local jeweler to create the "halo" style I have in mind, however...I don''t think there is one talented enough, and I don''t want to ship my diamond very far, so that limits my options I suppose.Date: 1/13/2008 9:53:16 PM

I haven''t bought any settings yet, definitely not 3 or 4, so I haven''t wasted any money, yet! I do really like the ring mount posted above, I wouldn''t care if it was twice the price, I just wonder about the quality BECAUSE of the price. It looks well made, solid, not hallowed out. To me, the diamond is more important than the setting, and I can''t justify spending thousands on a mount, when I can get the same look for hundreds (Just my opinion)I have purchased a few GREAT bands, which I wear, and those I don''t, have found a new home, for the same price I paid...so no losses here! Anyone who sees my diamond band (in my avatar) tells me it''s gorgeous and I must have spent a fortune on it. It makes me feel good to know that I got it for so little, that I LOVE IT, it is beautiful, PLUS I have money left over to buy yet another diamond band! LOL
Nope, I haven''t found a setter, however, since none of these jewelers have dealt with my husband, I thought if I found a mount I liked, I would have him go speak to the store owner (small family owned businesses around here), and perhaps they would think the ring is "older", and he wants to update the look for his wife...maybe a Valentine''s surprise..something like that? The only store my husband has gone into was the one that the diamond was purchased from, and since we know how great of an experience we had with their diamond setter...we won''t be giving them our business ever again! So...maybe having dear hubby go into the store with the mount and current ring, they would set it?(He is an intimidating 6 foot, 250 pound teddy bear! )LOLDate: 1/13/2008 9:57:22 PM

Oh that''s right...I remember that now! Thanks for the heads up, Ellen.
Hmm...well, if you do get this setting, beau, who will set your diamond? Did you find someone?
