Well take it from me, they''re certainly not joking when they say a diamond obsession can be fatal .

i joke, but seriously, i just had the most terrifying experience taking my e-ring diamond to leon mege to be set.

leon''s office is located on the fiftheen floor of a pre-war building right smack in the heart of the diamond in NYC (47th st between 5 and 6). after my appointment, i climb in the elevator and start emailing (blackberry) my BF to tell him the good news (he''s stuck at some meeting across town). when i get to the lobby, the doorman shouts at me to "go back upstairs! they think there''s a bomb in the street outside!" and tells me that NYPD is there is bomb suits and they aren''t letting anyone out of any of the buildings on 47th. so all of these people are congregating in the lobby of the building, and nobody has any idea what''s going on, and all i can think about (of course) is september 11 and how the last thing i want to do is die in the process of getting my engagement ring. and the whole city has obviously been on high terror alert due to the RNC, so i''m thinking the bomb might be for real. needless to say i start hysterically crying and hypervenilating, because i''m trapped in the building and i don''t know what to do and can''t figure out whether its best to be upstairs or in the lobby if some kind of bomb goes of. (wow, now this really isn''t a very cheery story is it.

sorry.) they kept us locked there for about twenty or thirty minutes without telling us a thing. it was just awful.

once they finally let us out i bolted (obviously), and there were cops and police tape everyehere and people on the street were saying that there was some kind of suitcase or package sitting in the street directly across from leon''s building, and that there was some indication that it contained a bomb. thank GOD that it wasn''t, but i think i really just took about six years off of my life (and off of my poor BF''s, who kept getting these terrifying e-mails from me saying i was trapped in some horrible crisis situation.) ugh. this is the reason why i am moving out of NYC as fast as my little legs will carry me.

maybe this is god''s way of telling me that diamonds are baaaaaad news.

Wow, reena, how terrifying for you! No, diamonds are not baaaad news, bombs are baaaaaad news!

Ugh. Reena, sorry you went through that this afternoon. Back when I was living in DC both before and after 9/11 our building would consistently get bomb threats three or four times during the year, and more so after 9/11. Prior to 9/11 we all had a kind of blaise approach to getting out of the building and onto the street where the supposed bomb actually was because we had no real actual tantamount fear that it was real. After 9/11 it was a whole different story. The building was literally deserted in minutes. You just never know if it's for real or not.

The good news is you are safe and sound (well except from the traffic nightmare that NYC must be right now) and so is your diamond. Try and stay out of harms way for the next 4 to 6 weeks or so okay?

Probably those damn news people leaving bags around town and then doing their big expose on it left being ignored. Or some damn copy cat now thinking it's a great idea. Damn fox five lol... And then people start to talk...oh, there's an indication there's a bomb. How so? B/c it's a bag left on the street? Sorry to hear that......New York really sucks man. Too much stress living here. I'm moving to Wisonsin or something.

that sux sorry to hear you had a bad day.

Sorry you had to go thru all that Reena

It's been an xtra pain in the tushy gettin in/out/around NYC this wk...

Just Monday, someone left a backpack in the Hoboken PATH station & caused 1 hr delays for all train/PATH/ferry/bus during rush hour!

It's ridiculous that the convention's being held here at all - WHAT were they thinking??!! Haven't we been thru enuff? There's police everywhere, roads are closed/blocked, there's all kindsa protests (not all peaceful).
...And isn't it enough that we've currently got the US Open, Mets & Yanks at home? Fashion wk's coming up & they closed my little de-stressing park to put up tents - STOP THE MADNESS in NY!!

thanks guys. i don't mean to whine but i had to vent about that to someone. ever since 9/11 i have been SUPER on edge; twice there have been fireworks in central park (i live right there) and i have had panic attacks because i thought they were explosions. so this was not good.

on the bright side, i am very excited about my setting.
