Out grocery shopping today and I ran into a patient from the office I use to work at.
I could feel her looking me up and down and stopping at my hand as I talked to her daughter. She interrupted us and pointed at my ring and “WOW IS THAT REAL?”
Her daughter very quickly looked at her and said “ mom, of course it is”. She was embarrassed for me or mom? Not sure
I just laughed and said yes and thank you.
I really liked this lady and know she didn’t mean anything bad but seriously whats with with people to just ask like that?
Kinda pissed me off. :angryfire::angryfire:

Well, the best interpretation is that the woman was gobsmacked by your amazing ring, which is probably the most gorgeous diamond ring she's ever seen in real life, and she just forgot her manners. The daughter was most likely embarrassed her mom's faux pas and wanted to cut short the conversation so her mom wouldn't flounder and dig herself deeper. Me, I'd take it as a compliment that a stranger saw your ring and thought it was so stunning that in her world it just couldn't be real (I mean, that's how I'd choose to interpret the situation).

eta: definitely understand your feelings and reaction though; what is with people sometimes? Think before speaking, is it really so hard?!

Yes I felt uncomfortable because she raised her hand and looked cmparita ely at hers plus she’s about 25 years older than me

She needs a better mental filter. :confused2: No need to ever dignify that question with an answer...I'd just smile and say 'nice to see you!' And walk away :mrgreen2:

I usually say when I see beautiful jewelry, can be gemstone, diamonds, jade, Chinese gold, Indian gold jewelry.. “Your ring, pendant, whatever is so beautiful!” And if the person wearing tells me more then we talk! Was it a special birthday, anniversary or whatever! I try to always say a compliment!

One lady at the grocery store took note of my mahenge spinel ring I was wearing and said to me “that is a pretty ring.” And I replied “Thank you! ....doesn’t it look fake!?” :lol-2::whistle:
She was so nice and said “No, it doesn’t.” Heh! Heh!

On the bright side, does this comment make you reconsider your reset? No dss if people think it’s fake?

I had a young woman at the grocery checkout ask me the same question. Instead of feeling offended I used the opportunity to tell her about my antique stone. It was just a quick and fun little convo. She meant no harm and didn’t take it that way. Most people outside of PS aren’t used to seeing large stones everyday! :rolleyes2:

A lady once asked my wife the same Q and I pointed at her boobs...are those real?. ... I knew they were fakes...

Omg!!! That’s priceless. Best comeback ever.

Never thought of it that way! But good point. I’ve decided to hold off. The only way I will do a reset is if I go somewhere that I can try on all different styles. I’m not making decisions without comparing lots of different halos.

Sorry to hear that, @princessk ! When you have an "unusual" ring i.e. bigger / sparklier than most, it's probably inevitable that rude / judgmental comments will be heard. You are the one rocking this awesome bling, so too bad for all the haters! ;)2

About a month ago I walked into a Kays with my friend because she wanted to look at their sapphire rings and the clerk that was helping her asked about my ring, she wanted to loupe it which I don’t mind. Well she called over another sales person and they complimented the ring which is always nice, one told me that I should be careful wearing it in the mall we were in and before I could say anything the other said “no one will believe it’s real with a diamond that size and color”...I wasn’t offended in the least because I would prefer people think it’s fake and try not to rob me, I don’t want to have to hurt someone lol

Some people just don't have a filter, OP!

Reminds me of the time I was on a plane and a young flight attendant, as she pushed the beverage cart down the aisle exclaimed, "I love your ring!" Then she POKED the top of my stone-- which I try to keep clean-- with her index finger! WHO DOES THAT!!

Lolololol... I was just thinking about boobs as well.:lol-2: (Got milk?)

If it were me, I'd be like "as real as these" and point to my boobs. "Wanna give them a squeeze and tell me what you think? I'm a widow and haven't gotten any play since my husband died :confused2:."

OMG, that color, that shape....Your ring is the most exquisite thing I have ever seen, KK!!:love::love:

Eh, people say dumb things sometimes, yes a rude comment to make but don't let it bother you - who knows why people say the things they do, might even have been her weird way of paying you a compliment, or maybe she was jealoius.

Since you know she didn't mean to be rude (and is just clueless) you handled it perfectly IMO @princessk. (Though anyone who looks me up and down isn't going to be a person I want to be cordial or nice to truth be told. I really don't appreciate being checked out like that).

However if someone does say something to you in the future about your beautiful rings here are a few snappy comebacks. Feel free to use them.

My insurance company prefers that I not say.

Why? Are you planning on stealing it?

I left all my imaginary jewelry at home today

Cartier doesn't deal in fakes

It’s nothing more than a figment of my fevered imagination… and if you can see it that must mean I imagined you as well.

Look down at your hand and ask- what ring?

And PrincessK, enjoy your ring. It's real and it's spectacular. :appl:

HAHA my husband is always touching my stone when we hold hands! We just had some photos taken on vacation and he had his finger all over my diamond and I was so annoyed, I think he likes touching/playing with it :naughty:

A lot of people! I had a coworker, a sweet, sweet lady who loved blingies. She used to always grab my hand and *finger* my rings! Used to drive me nuts! I never said anything, it’s really just a small thing to wipe them clean ;)2

Honestly people have no filter in their actions or their words. I'm sorry you felt awkward OP, but honestly what you wear is no one's business. I hate trying to justify rudeness with an answer. Your actions show that you are a much better person that I am, I would have said something! Your ring is beautiful!

@PintoBean Your Post had me ROLLING....:lol::lol:

@KKJohnson your ring is GORGE! I still can't get over the new setting! That color and that size and that shape!!! ABSOLUTELY fabulous. (btw how is baby doing?)

LOVE that last one @missy
“What ring?” :lol-2: Or how about...
“You’d be amazed at what comes out of a gumball machine. “

Some people are very blunt and I think it's more accepted in some cultures than others. I was asked that question several times at work, all the questioners were Asian. Maybe it was just the luck of the draw, but these ladies were pretty straightforward in all respects ("this is doberman. Can't you tell how beautiful she must have been when she was young" "you're the only white nurse who isn't fat" "they'd cut off your finger in the Phillipines to get that ring") So I didn't take any offense, I found it amusing. They were all very cool and great to work with which is all I care about.

I would be flattered too.

I'd be more diplomatic. (Of course this is easy to say since I wasn't in the moment!)

I'd say, "Yes, this is a precision cut super ideal..it's only been a few years since the technology was developed to make diamonds look this good. If you are interested, I will refer you to my jeweler and ask them to give you a discount. They are a bit more expensive than most diamonds, but they come in all price ranges and even the affordable ones look great."

Her: Wow, is that real???

You: Is what real?

Her: Your ring!

You: What ring?

Her: The one on your hand!

You: Well, I’m not wearing a ring, so it must NOT be real. It must be a figment of your imagination. Maybe go see a doctor about that? :???:

:lol::lol::lol:
