...has anyone here ever used gemstones for anything other than jewelry?? Can't imagine what...super expensive and fairly useless gem-encrusted bowl anyone?? I was laughing at the comment that Freke was going to encrust her ceiling with all her new gems, and it's been floating around in my head. Porridge has gone mad

indulge me with some wild ideas!

Freke''s got enough stones she could have encrusted her wedding shoes!

Victoria Secret has a bra that costs 5 million dollars, it's encrusted in diamonds.
There are also a lot of gemstone encrusted cell phones out there, lol.

I wouldn't mind a gemstone bookmark to keep me happy while I study :)

Haha, how about this :

My mother has a silver bookmark with a tourmaline. Some day, I´ll make its twin for me.

A local jeweller makes the most beautiful plique a jour enamel bookmarks. I really covet one, as his piecework is very delicate and he has a great eye for mixing colours.

Does he have a website? I love plique a jour.

Porridge,
I'm starting a collection of rare gems that cannot be used as jewellery. So far, I only have 1.

If I had enough blue and white gems instead of Swarovski''s to put on my wedding shoes I would have used them instead....

Well, us NorCal PSers will soon be going to a Tiffany/Faberge/Lalique exhibit - I went once with my DH already, and its amazing the things that used to be commonly jeweled - every imaginable type of hair ornament and comb and toiletry and all sorts of smaller things - doorbells, cigarette cases, etc...

Its amazing what people used to be able to afford, and the artistry that went into making such exquisite pieces.

Not as far as I know. I will ask him for some photos when I see him on Saturday.

Thanks!

How about SOCCER?
What about a drive in this MERC?
Is THIS good enough for you to read your newspaper on?

OK, the last two are done with swarovski, but still...

I''m keen on a large bowl of unsettables that I can fondle at my leisure.

This is starting to sound R rated in a PG forum.

I have this 22ct blue topaz that I don''t know what to do with. My friend suggested me making it a button/brooch?

I saw a diamond encrusted iPod at a gemstone show.

They had a contest years ago on jewelry telesvision and the winner was someone who put cads all over a fireplace.

Brooch but a paperweight would do in the meantime.

Curious - what is it? Sorry if it was mentioned in another post.

It could totally work in a pediatric setting, it would serve to distract the kiddies from crying and biting, lol.

I think it would distract me and I won''t be able to take care of my patients...
