I''m home sick from work today, and since the "Young, Dumb, and Engaged" thread has fallen out of use, I thought I''d start a weekly Hills thread to keep the gossip going.

So did you watch last night? What did you think?

I was disappointed that the clip they had been previewing of Heidi telling Spencer "I have to go to work, why don''t you try it sometime" didn''t have any more to it. He didn''t even seem to react to it. And there was no real build up to it, like Heidi complaining that Spencer doesn''t actually work.

I think it''s cute that Lauren and Brody seem to be rekindling, but did their whole last convo. seem kinda scripted to anyone else?

but I really like Lauren and Brody. The longer Spencer is in the picture the more irritating I find him. Can someone really be that immature?? Goodness.

Did any of you guys see that Spencer and Heidi were shooting her music video.. Spencer was the camera man with a boom box and she is just dancing around in the ocean. These two people are so lame, I guess they really are meant for each other.
 
I'm pretty sure the other thread isn't closed...

One of my friends lives in Lauren's building apparently (she's getting so sick of the cameras!!) and she said that she's seen them re-set for multiple takes of the same exchange. It's definitely structured, if not scripted.
 
One of my friends formerly worked for MTV and says The Hills, Laguna, etc is "pseudo-scripted" - some things like a lunch, going to a club, a meeting will be set up ahead of time, and then the producer will say "why don''t you talk about X" and then the cast just talks about it and cameras roll. The cast knows where the producer is coming from, so they know what they''re expected to say. I wish they would all TALK more. They do a lot of staring and raising eyebrows. Maybe there SHOULD be a script so they''d rely less on their non-verbals...

Anyway, random Hills side story - at the beginning of the season, a girlfriend called me and said "DID YOU SEE LC''S CAT?!?!" and then started talking about how she wanted to get her kitties little cable-knit sweaters just like LC''s feline. I told her that was stupid (but then when I caught the re-run, had to admit...pretty cute). Fast forward two months - over the weekend I was at Petsmart, and lo and beyond, they''re now selling cable-knit sweaters for cats.

Don''t get me wrong, I love the Hills, but really, how did a bunch of pretty stupid rich kids get so mainstream?

I can''t imagine living in the same apartments. I have to admit, I did try to google them once to get an *idea* of how much money ridiculous pseudo stars like Lauren make and have to spend on apartments.

And Elmorton, I TOTALLY agree taht there''s way too much deep, supposedly meaningful stares and not enough actual words in this show! I wish I could stop watching, but I just can''t!

Sabine, this is the (gigantic and spread out) apartment complex they live in:

...if that helps. That thing spans like a mile below 3rd. All kinds of different buildings, bungalows, etc. Don't know what kind of apt. the people on the show have bc I've never watched, but my friend's 3-bedroom townhome is just shy of $3000/month.

And at the beginning of the show, Brody has short hair and no cast. At the barbeque....longer hair, and there''s the cast again!!!

I think the parts with Lauren are more "real" than with Heidi though. I think everything that Heidi and Spencer talk about is pretty much fake. I was so annoyed last episode at the end where they manipulated the conversation to make it look like Spencer was ignoring Heidi when she was like "I can''t believe they''d blame you Spencer...can you? .......Spencer?" Meanwhile he''s just staring at her with a grimacing look.

They also manipulated the conversation to make it look like Heidi was apologizing to Spencer for having to leave their anniversary dinner...(Where she''s like, "I''m SORRY! It''s not my fault!" and Spencer is like "wah wah wah") I''m sure she was referring to Elodie, and was probably sarcastically implying that Elodie needed to get over it...like, "Sorry Brent chose me instead of her. Not my fault!"
MTV sucks at making it look real sometimes.
And I totally think the "new Elodie" is an actress....her first event and she''s telling Heidi what to do about her personal life?! I think Spencer likes to play it up for the camera. I doubt there''s really any drama between them about how much she works. I think they are just so fricken BORING that MTV tells them to argue over that stuff.

With that being said.....lol
I laughed so hard when Whitney started talking about the model guy when he was right there on the other side.
btw, I think that guy is an actor too.

I am dying to find out what song was playing during that model casting scene. Kinda french-pop-go-go-Goldie-Hawn-On-Laugh-In tune?? Anyone? Anyone???

MTV''s site has a track listing for that episode but all of them seem to have lyrics -- this was an instrumental. Maybe I missed it ... Itunes couldn''t find them all ... AIIGH it''s DRIVING ME CRAZY!!!!
 
I think Ashlee Simpson used to live (or maybe still does??) there. I used to watch her show on MTV and they''d occasionally show a building that looked like that one.

scripted, staged, fake....I call it HIGHLY entertaining! Spencer is SOOOOO annoying. No one is that good at acting.

he seriously needs to back off and let heidi do her job that he pushed her to go for which she stole from elodie becasue he thrives on the DRAMA in HER life.... since hes always the one creating it for her....


and as much as it seems to be scripted the HILLZ is still awesome in my book!!!

i am hoping for lauren and brody to get together...but i recently heard via gossip mag that Jessica Simpson has been "seen" with brody......this can not be true.....it seems way off....

chargergirl...I SOOOO wish you hadn''t posted that link, I just had the unfortunate experience of watching the making of Heidi''s video and OMG, blech. The only thing I find admirable or positive about Heidi is her gorgeous and perfectly coiffed hair. Can you get more vapid than she is? I think not. Unless you compare her to Steve Sanders, and then it''s sort of a toss-up. At least with soap-operas you are expecting the eyebrow-raising, the exaggerated expressions, etc., but with pseudo-reality tv I at least expect it to seem like reality even if it is mostly scripted!

This Hills show is definitely addicting, I do find myself tuning in and getting way more involved than a 30-yr old with a life should probably be, LOL!

I mean, please. The whole "sex tape" rumor was hardly a catastrophe. I don''t even think half of the celeb gossip sites covered it. And here she is crying about it every episode like she thinks America cares or something.

I thought Heidi went above and beyond to put this whole mess behind her, but Lauren seems to like her little world of pity...so really, I''m starting to think Heidi is better off without her!

Just my two cents.

Eh.. See, to me, it would be hard to forgive a friend who had done something like that to your own group of friends.. But to do that so publicly, where it was a rumor spread across the nation, I''d find it hard to forgive as well. Why should Lauren want to be friends with someone like that?
 
I just think that Lauren is mad at herself more than Heidi. Sometimes she says things that make you go hmmmm...
such as when she apologized to Audrina for judging Justin Bobby and she was like, "I made my roomate want to move out".
And one time when she was talking to Whitney and she admitted that her and Heidi weren''t friends because she didn''t like Spencer.
Plus, there is no proof that Heidi or Spencer ever started that rumor. Lauren is CHOOSING to believe that. I find it peculiar that no media sources have come forward saying where they got the information. Did an MTV producer let it slip, perhaps?
This rumor gets more attention on the show than it did in real life. For someone who''s so worried about people THINKING she has a sex tape, she''s really going about it wrong. If anything, her whining all the time kind of makes you wonder if she really has one.
 
Spencer looks like Elmer Fudd. I think that they all take themselves way too seriously. There are children starving in third world countries, but they''re creating all these "issues."

I could never live in LA, it''s a great city, but there is no way I''d pay that much for rent. That''s like a freaking mortgage.

Honestly...I don''t think LC is blowing things out of proportion. She keeps to herself pretty well (even though she''s a reality star...I realize there''s a contradiction there) and I think she DOES care about her professional life after the Hills runs out. And, I can''t imagine what it''s like to explain a sex tape rumor to your family. So...does she need to get over herself? I don''t think so. That rumor was a pretty big violation of her personal/professional life and probably ALL she heard about for a good 3-6 months (how long ago did it happen? I can''t even remember). She didn''t deserve that, and I think she has a right to not forgive and to be pretty darned cold.

I liked the way that she let Heidi have it. Ugh...poor Heidi. The girl is really pretty stupid. You could tell from her comebacks "Have a great life. Have a great evening" that she''s just devoid of any thought that the producer doesn''t put in her head. I do feel bad for her about being with Spencer..but does anyone remember when they first hooked up and she pretended she was pregnant? She''s pretty immature and likes to play games just as much as he does. I think he just pushes the envelope more than she does.

That said...I can''t WAIT for next week. Will Spencer really leave her over wedding planning?!?! Oooooooooooooooooh....So addicted.

This is the problem with America. Stupid, snotty, entitled kids across the country are living these drama-filled imitation lives ... but somehow I want to watch. And I *particularly* want to watch the most attractive, most fashionable, most deliciously ridiculous ones MTV can find.

I think oldsters like me watch for an entirely different reason than, perhaps, the 15-yr-olds do. But I''m buying the freakin dark nailpolish & wide headbands same as them. Cuz I''m an IDIOT.

There is a certain satisfaction in knowing their lives are gonna get so much worse than they are now ... and that they are gonna fail miserably (as everyone does eventually)... and that one day they''ll probably even regret being in this crazy fishbowl. SADISTIC BLISS for a bitter old coot like me.

Actually, Heidi''s website was hacked.

And I remember reading on TMZ or somewhere that a company approached Jason''s manager about buying the tape, but changed their mind about buying it after Jason got arrested (apparently he used a ton of racial slurs). So my guess is that Mtv producers leaked the "rumor" or Jason did. Actually, my first thought was Jason since the rumor came out shortly after they broke up. You know who has the answer? Perez Hilton. He was the first to post the rumor to his site, and everyone got their information from that one post.
Lauren has done more than her fair share of bashing people in front of a nationwide audience (Spencer, Heidi, Jen Bunny, Justin Bobby...) all of which could be true or untrue. I really don''t know what makes her think she''s so special.

HOWEVER, I think Heidi was a terrible friend, and if I were Lauren, although I probably would forgive Heidi and at least get over all the "I hate you" drama, I would NOT want to be close friends with her ever again. It was big of Heidi to appologize, but what did she expect, for her and Lauren to go back to being bff''s after all this time and anger? Plus, Heidi is still with Spencer (unless we believe next week''s teaser...can''t wait to see that!) and Lauren and Spencer hate each other, so I think it would be impossible for them to be close friends again due to that.

I think they're still together. I saw a picture of them in a magazine recently at a pumpkin patch.

Did you guys know that Brody is Bruce Jenner's son? I was surprised when I saw him on the Kardashian show (whatever it's called).
 
Heidi and Spencer went on Ryan Seacrest''s show and talked all about the sex tape rumor. They were catty, laughing, and childish. They were even referring to details of Lauren''s anatomy over the air. I do not think she is overreacting in the least bit. I don''t know if I can find the link to where you can hear the broadcast again, but I''ll look for it.

Last week I had a meeting with several MTV executives to discuss their online content strategy (I''m a technology consultant) and we were talking about the success of The Hills. I found it hilarious that I''m about 10 years over their target demographic and I completely realize how silly it is, but all I wanted to do was steer the strategy session away from the agenda and instead talk about the characters on the show. Like Deco, I''m buying the dark polish and wide headbands.

I am with most of you in that I''m ready to see Lauren come down from the high horse. I realize that Heidi said she wanted to talk, but what''s the point of having Heidi come over and apologize multiple times? If Lauren was only going to tell her how much she sucks, she could have just declined meeting with Heidi and respectfully tell her she''s not interested in resuming their relationship over the IM.

Did you hear about Spencer trying to sell sex tapes of himself and his ex? Apparently he tried to make it look like somebody "leaked" them, though he was the one behind it? I don''t necessarily believe this because nobody has actually seen the tapes and I''m pretty sure that if there were some tapes of him and an ex, that would be news regardless of who leaked them. Still, I don''t think it''s beneath him to leak his own sex tapes for fame.

Also, I''m very interested to see the show in which Justin Bobby is making out with another woman when Audrina confronts him. While I feel bad for Audrina, that''s just good TV. And really, that''s why we watch!
