hi all

I''m planning to have an outdoor wedding as an alternative if the weather is nice.. I''m not sure if it a good idea especially around Spring time ... I don''t want to plan ahead and put my hopes up so high and when the time comes who knows it might rains but it would be a dream for me if I could have my wedding outdoor especially at the beach.. Sigh.. Anyone here have/going to have their wedding around Spring time? If so please give me some tips... thanks

Bring an umbrella?

I am having an outdoor wedding in May, and if it rains, we will just use umbrellas. If it is storming, I guess we will wait until the storm passes. The house on the property is not big enough for everyone, so it will be outdoors no matter what. I''m just praying it''s nice outside. Sorry that''s not much help.

Would you be able to put up a tent? If so, you could always rent one. People might appreciate the shelter from the sun, even if it is nice.

Otherwise, is your reception at the same place or somewhere else? If it is somewhere else, would there be room for you to perform the ceremony there if it was an absolute necessity? That might be an option. I would definitely have a Plan B, because, at least in my neck of the woods, spring showers can be intense.

I had mine in the fall and we had a tent. The weather was amazing, but the tent created a different ambience!

It can be beautiful, but have an inside back up location just in case. It''s just too unpredictable especially in the spring.

No matter what season you''re wedding is in, I''d have a back-up just in case. I asked my reception hall if, in case of rain, we could have it an hour early and they were fine with that.

Ditto. That said, even if DOES rain, your wedding will be gorgeous - I''m not sure whose they are so maybe someone will help me out and post a link, but there are a few wedding posts that had really great pics with umbrellas! I''m thinking in particular of one couple who had blue umbrellas, but there are others, too. . .

The umbrella idea is cute, but as a guest, I would probably skip an outdoor ceremony (and go straight to the reception, which is almost always under a tent/pavilion for outdoor weddings) if it were raining and we had no tent or backup location. Can you have a tent on hand in case there's rain, but if the weather is good, go without the tent?

I''m getting married in April in the outdoors. I''ve checked the past weather, high temps range from 43 to 92. 2 out of the past 10 years have been rainy.

Worst case, if it''s raining constantly, our reception venue is allowing us to use them as a back up plan. People would be seated at their tables for our vow exchange. They''ll allow us a half hour ceremony before the reception start time at no additional cost.

Not sure how to approach this as far as how to let guests know, though. Do you put it in the invitation? I guess that''s another thread altogether, when the time comes.

I''ll be praying for all us outdoor-wedding gals for NO RAIN!!!

Lynnie, I wouldn''t say anything in the invitation about rain plans, because everyone''s definition of "rain" is different. Here in Southern California, "rain" to some people is an oh-so-slight drizzle. Others don''t consider it rain unless it is out-and-out pouring cats and dogs.

Also, it could be raining the morning of the ceremony but clear up just before your wedding.

Thanks, march. I agree with you. The ceremony is to start at 3. Can start later but all of us must be off the property by 4:30 at the latest (historical house). As long as the weather cooperates, we''ll have an hour post ceremony for family pics. Reception at 6 (45 min drive). I guess worst case senario, if we''re unable to have the ceremony there we''ll just make an announcement to everyone to be at the reception venue at 5:30 for the ceremony. Or a mass cell phone text. I''m not doing a web page (that might be a good spot for it too).
Anywhoo, sorry for the threadjack, OP
