How far in advanced did everyone buy their wedding gowns?

I bought mine in September for my May wedding. We thought it would take 6 months to come in, but I ended up buying the sample because it didn''t need any alterations!

Ditto. I bought mine 4 months in advance and had to pay rush charges.

I ended up buying a sample, so no ordering needed.

Bought late August 2008 for late July 2009 wedding. Mine was off the rack so I didn't have to worry about "production and shipping" times. There's that possibility...

ETA: I worked for a designer that took 6 months to come in and ALWAYS needed alterations. If you order, I would suggest AT LEAST 6 months, you never know what could happen.

Ditto on that. I bought mine in October for a June wedding, b/c I was thinking 6-8 months for a dress to be made, altered etc, but ended up buying the sample too

I would recommend shopping at least 6 months out though b/c if its a summer wedding, its a busy time for the dress makers too!

Im probably going to order mine in Jan 09 for a Feb 10 wedding....I want to get any stress of it not coming in time our of the way Plus they are going to have to sew beads and stuff on mine..

I ordered my in June for my May 2, 2009 wedding. It should arrive some time soon, then its onto alterations

10 months.

It came in 4.5 months, and alterations took 2 weeks. So I could've waited until 5 months out, in theory--but would've been cutting it close.

i ordered mine in late January for my december wedding. i don''t think i got it until late august or early september (it took a long time). i won''t pick it up from my final fitting until 2 weeks before the wedding on the 20th.

I bought mine in Aug for a May 09 wedding. I love my dress and knew it was ''the one'' but I also took into consideration that they told me it would take 8-12 weeks maybe more. It arrived in 3 weeks!!! Good thing it''s being held at my parents or I''d prob be wearing it! haha

i bought mine pretty early- In March 08 for a May 2009 wedding! However it was out of town and I really wanted to do the shopping with my mom and MOH when I was home.

apparently, I''m going to need all 5 months for alterations. It''s a Reem Acra with a heavily beaded detail on the waist, and a hand-draped skirt, so to be taken in, everything needs to be disassembled and put back together the way it was made (by hand).

I ordered the end of June (got engaged mid-May) for December 20 wedding. Still waiting (still patiently) for it to arrive. Should have shipped Tuesday- I am hopeful that it did!

I bought mine July ''08 for a January ''11 wedding, but only because I then left the country and won''t be back until sept 2010 which wouldn''t be enough time otherwise. While they do have bridal shops here in Frankfurt, Germany- when I saw them I was glad my dress is safely in NY. Not that the dresses here are not lovely- just not my style.

So i was going to order my dress and have it made, and I wanted ample time so I decided to go looking for my wedding gown for my November 09 wedding and this bridal boutique was having a sale! 50% off sample dresses! and I found one that I loved and so I bought it!!! I also bought a matching viel and a petticoat! So i wanted to share my dress with everyone!
