We are so busy preparing to leave from our home here in MA and fly to San Francisco, CA to get married on Tuesday evening! I thought I would make a thread outlining all of the details for those interested. Who knows, perhaps it will help me get organized...
2.gif

We are leaving from home at 3:45am
23.gif
on a shuttle that will take us to the nearest airport, which is in CT. Our plane leaves at 6am. We have one stopover in Michigan on the way there, and are scheduled to arrive in SF at 11:45am. The thing I am most terrified about going wrong is the plane. The last two times [only times] I have flown to CA I have been significantly delayed... and if we get delayed on this trip we will miss our marriage appointment. I don''t know WHAT I would do if that happened. Probably call City Hall and cry my eyes out? I try not to think about this since obviously there is nothing we can do about it, but it is stressing me out SO MUCH right now.

Once we arrive at the airport we will take the BART public transit system to our hotel. We are staying at the Hotel Union Square. It looks really cute and has pretty good reviews, which is excellent. Not so excellent is the fact that their usual check-in time is 3pm, and even though we have requested an earlier time of 1pm, they will NOT guarantee it no matter what we tell them, even though we are scheduled to be MARRIED just a few hours after our arrival. I am pretty frustrated with them, but fully intend to raise a huge fuss if they do not allow us into our room when we arrive because we should ideally be able to shower and do our hair in the hotel room. If not there is always the dressing room at Bloomingdale''s...

We have a 2:30 make-up appointment at the MAC makeup counter at the Bloomingdale''s store in the SF Shopping Center. Our hotel is only a few blocks from there, so we hope to dress in our room and walk to the shopping center, get our makeup done, and then either go straight to City Hall, or back to the hotel lobby for some pre-ceremony pictures.

Our marriage license appointment is at 4:30 in City Hall. This is the fun part!! We will be LEGALLY married and there is pretty much no way they can take that away from us once it is finalized. This is why we are flying all the way to SF on this fantastic trip to be married months before we''d originally planned, and is the most important part to both of us. We are meeting our photographer there at 4:50 so that he can catch some photos of us with our license and be there for the ceremony as well as some pictures afterward. We have him for a whole hour! This photographer also took Mia''s stunning photos from her elopement at City Hall. Thanks for the recommendation and suggestions about working with him, Mia!
Our civil ceremony appointment is at 5:00, which is directly after our license appointment. I hope they are running on time so we don''t miss anything! Yet another thing for me to stress over.
20.gif
I secretly hope we get the rotunda for our ceremony, but knowing there are no guarantees means I have to not think about it.

After our ceremony we will do some sightseeing, probably in our dresses. Might as well get some use out of them! We are planning to have dinner at the Cheesecake Factory, which we always love. They don''t do reservations, but hopefully if we call ahead of time and show up in our wedding attire they will do their best to make the evening enjoyable for us...

Yaaaay! That is the end of the schedule of events as we know it so far. We plan to see as many things as possible while we are in the city. We leave the next morning at noon from the airport and travel allll the way back to MA where we came from.

WEDDING DETAILS

This is a thread about my dress. At the bottom of the first page is a picture of my Fiancee in her dress. She has decided on a thinner white sash, which is what she will wear Tuesday. Here it is!

We are both wearing veils and earrings, and FI is wearing a necklace. We are also wearing some "hair bling"

but I don''t have any pictures of them yet. More to come!

These are my shoes: http://www.davidsbridal.com/accessory_detail.jsp?stid=3839&prodgroup=167 Mine are white
These are FI''s shoes: http://www.davidsbridal.com/accessory_detail.jsp?stid=1430&prodgroup=167

This is the longest post in the history of the universe, so I will end it now. Thanks everyone for your help and patience with me along the way and for your kind well-wishes!

I cannot wait to see pictures! I am very excited for you!

one note about the hotel - (im sure you already have, but i have to ask) - Talk to the floor manager about why you need to check in early and to also let them know this is for your wedding (is your honeymoon in SF too? if so, mention that too!). they might be more lienent AND upgrade :)

I am sure everything will go perfect!!!!

Beautiful! Count me as one of the many on this board who will be praying for a lovely, smooth wedding day for you two and a wonderful life spent together!

I''m sorry I couldn''t have been more help last week with the hotel info!

Sounds like you have everything planned out well though! Best of luck to you and best wishes!!

I used to fly frequently. My experience is that most of the significant delay problems occur in the winter, and/or later in the day. Planes that have to fly in or out of an area that have to deal with bad weather are delayed, and those delays get amplified on down the line.... so because you''re starting out early in the day (especially if you''re taking the first flight out, in which case the plane probably overnighted at the airport) and we''re not yet experiencing severe weather, I think you''re going to be OK in the flight department.

I hope that helps a tiny bit.

Best wishes and have a wonderful day!

Can't wait to hear the details Wishing!!!! I think I can help with a few of your thoughts. I don't know how familiar you are with SF, so I apologize if this is repetitive or not helpful to you.

1. I have been on those NW flights from Bradley to Detroit many many times. It doesn't *usually* get delayed much except for winter weather. Usually it runs pretty close to on time, but just FYI, the security lines at Bradley have been getting much worse these days so just make sure if it's a popular flight time that you get there with plenty of time.

2. Detroit to SF. I have also been on THIS flight quite a few times, including for our own wedding! Now this one has gotten cancelled on me more than once due to "aircraft issues". When this happens, it is THEIR FAULT, and if you make enough of a stink about it politely, they will usually put you on a different flight if they can. What I have done is walked over to another Northwest counter if it looks like it's going to be delayed or cancelled, and ask them if there are possibly ANY other flights going to the bay area. In my experience there are usually a few every hour or two, with one going to SFO and one going to Oakland. If you are really nice and explain the situation, they often would be happy to switch the flight for you, for no (or very minimal like $25) fee and you can take BART very easily from both airports to downtown.

3. On a tuesday afternoon I would think you'd be able to get the rotunda since it would be an odd time for it to be rented out for another event, but even if you don't the rest of the rooms in city hall are gorgeous anyway and you can always take pictures in the rotunda afterwards!

4. MAC and getting to city hall. If your makeup appointment is at 2:30, I would strongly advise letting them know that you need to be out of there by 3:30. City Hall is only a few stops away on BART, but if you miss your appointment at city hall for your license they might not be able to accommodate you. I can't remember if you are familiar with SF or not, but if not, make sure that you get on BART going in the right direction, I believe all the trains head towards the Civic Center from Bloomingdales assuming you get on going in the right direction. Also, if I remember correctly, it can be confusing when you exit the BART station to get over to city hall, so ASK ASK ASK if you get lost.

5. BART cards. When you buy one at the airport, just put $10-20 on it so you don't have to buy individual tickets everytime. It'll make your life easier.

I hope that helps and please let me know if you have any more questions!

Just to add to NeatFreak's # 5 about the BART cards...remember that you need to use it both going IN to the bart station and going back OUT...I can't tell you how many times I put it back deep into my wallet/purse/backpack and had a line of folks grumbling behind me as I searched for it. Even worse, I've known people who have thrown it away thinking that it was used up, and then had to pay a LOT to get out. Also, you need 1 card for each person, can't share.

WT, What airline are you two taking?

Here''s some advice for you:

Don''t check your dresses and shoes. Pack a steamer if you have too. I have successfully put dresses in a thin garment bag and then losely roll the dress up and put it into my luggage or put it in a large (I mean one of those large paper williams sonoma bags). Let the folks at the ticket counter know that you are bringing your dresses, they might be able to help you figure something out.

Make sure you carry some ones and change. That way, if you need to go to Oakland, you have exact change for the AirBART (the shuttle from the Oakland Airport to BART)

When buying your BART ticket, you could pay in cash or with credit card. You could buy two tickets at one time. If you are not familiar with the machine and how to use it, ask. You can ask the BART agent or most people. Buy two $20 dollar tickets. Since it will cost you at $5.35 to get from SFO to Powell and the return trip will cost you the same amount that''s almost $11 round trip to and from the airport. Then, you will want to be able to hop on BART going from Powell to Civic Center ($1.50 each person, each way.) If you still have extra money on your ticket, you can return it in exchange for the cash value at the Powell, Embarcadero and Civic Center BART stations.

I will come back later with more suggestions (I hope before you have to leave). If not, I know you will have a wonderful time and I''m sending PS dust your way so everything works out exactly like it''s supposed to.

I looked online and a found a few flights leaving from detroit to SFO and OAK, so if their is a mechanical problem, you should not have a problem finding a flight.

Can''t wait to see your pics!! Have a beautiful, stress-free, on-time day tomorrow!

I'm sorry I have not been on to respond before now- thanks for all your responses!

jcarlyew - Thanks! We are planning to call the hotel from Michigan during our layover to talk to the manager. That is a great idea, and we will try to be as firm as possible about it while still being polite.

rockzilla - Thanks for your sweet words and help with the BART cards. All the info you're giving us is INCREDIBLY valuable since neither of us have ever taken the BART before. Knowing all of this ahead of time will help us stay on schedule, for sure.

violet - No, you were an incredible help! Thanks for all of your kindness along the way, and your "no" vote too, of course.
2.gif

VRBeauty - Thanks for the input! That is true about the early flight and makes me feel much better. The weather is pretty good here... forecasted rain but nothing that should be severe enough to interfere with planes, I think.

neatfreak - All of your information is so helpful! I feel so much better reading about your Bradley to Michigan experiences. I have quite the set of nerves...
Also thank you for the input about the MI to SF flight. I will find it in me to make them put us on another flight. It's also a good reminder that there are multiple airports in the SF area so it is possible to fly into Oakland as well. Again, that makes me feel better!
I am glad to hear the other rooms in City Hall are gorgeous! I haven't been able to see any pictures of them, but the building looks just stunning in general.
30.gif

Our makeup appointment is one hour long, so we will be out of Bloomingdale's around 3:30 which I think leaves us plenty of time to get to City Hall. We will make sure to get on in the right direction!

gtn - We are taking Northwest. All of our "luggage" [if you can call it that, since we're bringing so little] will be carry-on. We have one small suitcase and two dress garment bags, so all of our stuff will be on board with us. We are planning to ask the flight attendants when we arrive if they are able to hang the dresses. If not, we will just stow them in the overhead compartments, hopefully not squishing them too much! I am bringing a bit of cash in case they make us pay for anything along the way... I will also be sure to take some ones and change along. Also thanks for tracking down some alternate flights just in case! You are so sweet to calm my mind like that. :)
And again, thanks for the BART suggestions! Neither of us are super familliar with the area, especially traveling by public transit there, so those tips are beyond helpful.

Sarah - Thanks!! I can't believe this is happening already! I will be sure to come back and share when we return.
36.gif

I can't believe we're leaving so soon! We are hoping to get a few hours of sleep in from around 8pm to 3am, shower, and then take the shuttle to the airport. From then on it will be a whirlwind!

Good luck! I have to say, if I were still living in SF, I''d have to find some way to make it to City Hall to witness your wedding. Alas...I am stuck in LaLaLand (LA, natch).

Woohoo! Tomorrow you''ll be married!

I really wanted the rotunda, and was soooo nervous that we wouldn''t get it. It really wasn''t a problem when we were there though. In fact, I recall the marriage commissioner showing us the picture the picture of it and asking us if it would be okay if we got married there. I was thinking "heck yeah!" but of course said "oh yeah, sure, that would be fine..." Anyway I know it wasn''t quite "as" busy back in September as it may be tomorrow, given that we are getting closer to Nov. 4, but it was couple after couple getting married in the rotunda. They also keep lurkers out of the area so that strangers won''t be in your shots. Joseph is also really good at telling people to get out of the shot!

Also the marriage license takes like five minutes. As long as you are on time for that, if they run over and you are "late" for the ceremony they''ll still accomodate you. They are all really nice there, so don''t be intimidated by the strict language on their website.

Yay! Have a great day tomorrow!!!!

Wow! I can''t believe it''s tomorrow-I''m sure you''re sleeping now! Or at least I hope you are-I''d probably be too excited to sleep!

Best, best wishes to you and your bride-to-be! I''m sending you safe travel PS dust right now! (And I''ll give my St. Christopher medal a rub for you! Every little bit helps!
