Hello all,

It's been a long while since I've been on here. I've been engaged for a few years and my fiance and I are finally getting hitched THIS July! We are in the process of ordering our wedding bands soon. So, of course I'd come back here to ask for your opinion on who to go with. I'm looking for a low profile platinum 2.5mm fully eternity or 3/4 eternity band.

First, I'd like to ask about full eternity vs 3/4 eternity. I've heard different views on this. I was concerned about damaging the stones on the bottom of the finger, but I was told that the full eternity will be turning around the finger so the diamonds will not stay in place enough to be damaged. I've heard preferences for the the 3/4 because there's some leeway for sizing up or down in the future if necessary. With that being said, let's move on to the vendors!

BGD have given me some quotes on some 2.5mm bands ranging from 3-5 pointers and I'm looking at anywhere from $2500-$3000. Of course their melee are all H&A super ideals. I have two diamond bezel bands from them with 2 pointers and omg do they sparkle! I'm also so happy to wear the bands because they consistently perform (and outperform many bands that I see, even with bigger stones). What I love about going with BGD is the fact that I will without doubt that I will be receiving a superior product with ideal performing stones with impeccable craftmanship. CON: price; I'm nowhere near them I can't try their rings in person to see which setting compliments my ring most.

Brilliantly Engaged- I've read praises about their craftmanship here, and I've met with Mark and Chris before. Let's just say they definitely know what they are doing. The vibe I get from Chris is less so of a salesman who simply sings praises of their product. He loves to get technical and indepth in teaching how a product gets made. While he's proud of his products, he's also very honest about what isn't necessary or wouldn't work. For the reasons above, he makes me feel confident about receiving no less than a superior product as well with top notch craftmanship. They are working on a line of eternity rings, so it won't be a custom order, which is what they usually do. Quote I've received is approx. $2600- $2800 for a 2.5mm 5 pointer full eternity. CON: pushing my budget, no prior experience with their products.

IDJ- I've read about them here countless for getting the best bang for the buck. I've personally worked with Yekutiel and bought my earring jackets from them and my fiance bought my engagement ring with them. When I went, I spoke about the pricescope community and requested for ideal H&A PS quality melee. In my personal experience, my earrings jackets had to made twice because when they set the stones into my jackets, one of the stone got nicked (I could see it with the naked eye if I were to really look into it, and then confirmed it with the loupe). Both times it happened, and I just kept it the second time figuring they probably can't do much more since it's the same mistake twice. Yekutiel and his SA just old me since it's on the ear it's never going to be noticeable. While true, it bugs me that one of my diamonds is flawed beyond SI quality. As for my engagement ring, the diamond looks great, but since it was "custom" made, I see how the craftmanship isn't quite up the par. The bridges(?) that come up towards the head of the setting tapers unevenly. One is more blunted and slightly shorter and another is pointers and slightly longer. When I brought it to another vendor, they took a look at it and asked if it was "sized". My heart dropped because I never sized it. It was supposed to be a custom ring from CAD. It makes me worried that IDJ maybe just took a stock ring and sized it to my finger size. Anyway, that's just speculation. I haven't asked for a quote yet, but I'm not sure if I feel confident enough to give them our business again. But if they are significantly more affordable, I may be tempted again.

Can someone share their thoughts? I'd like to place an order within the next week! Thanks in advance!

I don't have immediate feedback for you, but I do have to say that you literally just spelled out what I am debating on! I love all BGD products and I love their super ideal cut stones! I don't personally own anything from IDJ, but I have helped several of my friends purchase from them and they have always been super patient and provided excellent service. I love the Dream band from BGD: http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/w...bands/eternity-bands/dream-full-eternity-5406. I love that the profile is super low and the diamonds are scalloped. Also, when buying from them, I always feel personal satisfaction that I am getting "the best" diamond quality out there. Now..on the other hand, the quote from IDJ was pretty much 1/2 of BDG. It may be different now, because I asked several months ago, but overall it will be much less expensive. I don't have any feedback re Brilliantly Engaged, but I did also look at WF. Their pricing was comparable to BGD, but I do prefer the look of the Dream band.
Regarding 3/4 vs Eternity..I am also debating over the same exact thing! I like the fact that you can re-size a 3/4 if needed in the future, but I would hate it if the band turns all the time and if I see metal when I look down...

I am sorry that I am not a great help, but I will be following your thread :))

If you want peace of mine that you have the best stone quality, then I'd choose BGD. I'm sure BE does lovely work, but for the same price, I'd probably still choose BGD.

It probably would've been wise to bring up any craftsmanship issues with Yekutiel right away and I think it may be better to address your concerns with him directly. It has been a few years and I know they've stepped up their game with new benches who do great work and Yekutiel wants to please all of his customers. Their melee is beautiful and their prices are very competitive but I would be super specific in your order so you get exactly what you want.

I would second BGD. Since this is for your one and only wedding band and you already have some BGD pieces to compare to, think of how you would feel if the other options ended up not being exactly on par. It would probably be a picking feeling in the back of your mind. This is one of the happiest times in your life that you can't do over, so I say splurge a little. Maybe for an anniversary in the future, you can consider budget saving options.

Also, between 3/4 eternity and full, I would vote full. I started with a half eternity for durability reasons and couldn't stand the spinning. So for a band you're going to wear all the time, full is nice.

Since you have already worked with BGD and are happy with them sounds like you should probably stick with them.

I'm going to go against the grain and say 3/4. I have actually damaged a full eternity, and I also have a full double row eternity that I can't wear anymore because it can't be resized :(

Personally I prefer full eternities. I have seen some with small sizing bars which have Been engraved,so if they flip around it's not quite as obvious as plain metal.

I am not clear what your budget is. You mention above that $2500-$3000 is too much. Is that the case?
In terms of eternity band vs. 3/4 band, even though the 3/4 can be re-sized as you state, is that what you truly want? Go with what you want.
As a side note, my wife has an eternity band and it needed re-sizing, the jeweler was able to do it, had to add a stone, but it can be done.
I have purchased from BGD before, always satisfied with the results.

EDIT: OP, I wanted to throw this out, my daughter got married this weekend, wanted an eternity band with diamonds and was budget oriented. I saw the ring this Saturday for the first time and it was dainty and beautiful. Just a thought if budget is an issue.....

3/4 eternity
BGD- Their diamonds are incredible. My e-ring a BGD Blue. I had a pre-loved Dream band with 5 pointers and sold it because it was too sparkly and distracting-LOL. I do have plans to one day purchase the same band but with 3 pointers.
Can't wait to see what you get!

I have heard many negative things here about IDJ's quality control and would never go with them unless budget was my only consideration. I was turned off when I read about HOT and others getting subpar workmanship from IDJ; Yekutiel's response was less than impressive and afaik he never made it right. I know these issues may have been a while ago, but that doesn't excuse it, as far as I'm concerned.

ERD seems to do a great job, but as a satisfied BGD customer, I would recommend them for this project because it WILL be very high quality for about the same price as ERD. And imo, go with 3/4 eternity- it would be awful if you spent a lot of money on a ring, and then your finger size changed but the ring couldn't be resized!

There are a lot of amazing PS vendors, and each of them has the few things the do best. IMHO, this is the kind of project BGD is perfect at.

I think the 3/4 is also a good idea given sizing

Oh, I forgot to mention before: for a low-profile plat band, have you priced out the Memoire Purity and Petite Prong bands? I have an 11-stone with 4-pointers and I got it from Pearlman's, which offers a generous PS discount. This is a superb ring (they'll do any number or size of stones) and well worth considering if you haven't already. Bill Pearlman is a lovely, honest vendor and such a pleasure to talk to. Just FYI!

I used to have a 1/2 eternity but seeing the plain band when the ring spun around drove me nuts. I now have a 3/4 eternity and my preference is for 3/4 or 7/8 bands. I think 7/8 would be ideal because even though some full eternities can be resized, it could possibly weaken the metal more and risk having stones fall out after resizing.

Crystal24k, what do you mean TOO sparkly?? If you wear a Dream band while driving, is it like driving into the sun? OMG!!

Itzme, I just saw that BGD is running a MDW wedding bands special - up to 10% off! Take it as a sign :P

Totally agree with Memoire branded bands. Impeccable workmanship!

I can;t comment on the vendor choice but just wanted to say that I've had all my bands made with a small 3-4mm plain section to allow for re-sizing. With my VC pave band this equated to him leaving out 2 stones. IMO for the few times it flips to the front (and it is barely noticeable even then) the convenience of being able to resize far outweighs any downsides. It has already been re-sized once just due to a size 5.5 in one style of ring from one vendor not quite equating to the same with another ring and other vendor. I would have be gutted if I hadn't been able to re-size it.

BGD 3/4 band.
No regret or doubt in quality; you have great history with them & you love their product & craftmanship. Budget is meant to be pushed. This is the ring you will wear forever. With time, it may need to be sized. Eternity band can wait until your anniversary for either hand. All day, every day wear takes a toll.
If it spins, turn it back, or create a design on the band that compliments your wrong so it's not as noticeable. My husband & I did that with my 1/2 band, and it's beautiful! My set matches & when it spins, slightly, it's not glaringly noticeable.
That's my $0.50 worth...lol!!
Good Luck & Congratulations!

Thank you for your suggestion. Would you be able to give a ballpark range how much your 11 stone band was? I wish Pearlman's had some better pictures of the bands. I doubt the pictures in their website does the beauty of the pieces any justice. And it's difficult enough if I were to purchase sight unseen.

Haha! I thought so too! But when I inquired for the last promotion they had for graduates, they told it was for catalog items only. So if I were to make "customizations" to the size of the melee and change to 3/4 eternity or full eternity, it would not work. Not sure about this particular promo though.

Thank you so much everyone for giving me your input! I woke up to check on this thread and was surprised to see how many responses there were. I never received the email alerts, so I thought it was heading to the thread graveyard. LOL.

I just wanted to give an UPDATE:

I made a trip to IDJ, and it was pleasure to see him again after all these years. He promised me amazing diamonds, which I have no doubt he can fulfill, but the settings available just didn't pull my heartstrings enough. He showed me some custom pieces he worked on recently and there were gorgeous! The micropave was beautiful and delicate, so I do see how his bench has improved within these past few year. With that being said, I feel like I would have to go custom to get a band I would love. If I knew exactly what I wanted, like the height of the profile, prong setting, amount of metal on the sides, while creating a structurally sound piece, I would go with IDJ. However, given my lack of time to research and essentially design on my band, I'm not so sure IDJ would be my pick this time. I do see myself going back to him for an anniversary piece. And I saw an amazing pair of hoops I'd love to consider in the future!

I also how to see Brilliantly Engaged again to see what he has on the works. And OMG I think it was love at first sight on his fishtail band! I was also looking at another band he worked on, but I don't know how the describe the profile. It was simple, understated but I haven't seen anything like it before. The finish on both are IMPECCABLE and precise! For a wedding band, I feel the craftmanship is very important to me because I'll be staring at it alot. And I want a piece that makes my heart skip a beat every time, or makes me smile. The overall construction felt excellent throughout. I would easily put it in the same caliber as BGD. He did take a look at my BGD bezel band and told me he could get me "better" melee. To be fair, even IDJ told me he can do better on the melee too. I'm crossing my fingers! But the two bands he did show me did sparkle and dazzle! And this is in his office under office lighting, not under jewelry store spot lighting. BONUS: We also found my Mr's band there too! Another moment where we were both captured and in awe. Or maybe we haven't shopped around enough, and just found something that's been available but is new but pretty.
- In regards to 3/4 vs full: He told me I can always get 3/4 now if I were get the fishtail pave and add the melee at a later time if I were decide I wanted it to be a full eternity in the future. He said it's because it's the way it's set. He said it's been done before and it would still flow flawlessly. So I was ecstatic to hear that. If I were go to with Briliantly Enagaged, I'd do 3/4 full knowing that I can always go back to add to it if need be.
- Pricing, of course not as affordable as IDJ (not too far off though) but I do get the bigger melee for less than BGD's lower quote.

I don't know what's considered a reasonable price for a 5 pointer band. Can someone give me a range so I know to gauge if I'm overpaying?

At this point in my hunt, Brilliantly Engaged seems to be the choice for me. But of course things can still change until deposit is down. So any more insights would be appreciated! As a diligent PS'er, are there any terms you'd throw in to ensure you get the quality you want? :P

Some have brought up about 7/8 full. How is that different form 3/4 full?

Can you share a pic?

Silly me, I was so preoccupied ooh-ing over the goods I forgot to take pics! But this is a quick picture of the profile of the fishtail band. The stone size on this band is smaller than the 5 pointers I'm thinking of. What do you guys think?

I love it! Only caution is the stones rubbing against your engagement ring

Thank you! I am also worried about it not having as much protection as some other profiles. When I called BGD, Jamie told me their fishtail is their 2nd best seller. Hopefully those who purchased it doesn't run into that issue.
