Wedding Band HELP! Got my ring and not in love with it...

So, I ordered this wedding band from Brilliant Earth and it came in the mail yesterday:

http://www.brilliantearth.com/Petite-Shared-Prong-Diamond-Ring-(1/4-ct.tw.)-Platinum-BE2PD25R25

I don't know exactly why, but I am just not 100% in love with the way it looks with my engagement ring. I feel as though maybe it takes away from my e-ring? It also does not sparkle as much as I had hoped. I am debating returning it, but I am so confused as to what to replace it with. Originally, I did not like channel set bands because I felt like there was too much metal. I love the look of pave, but I am so nervous about the risk of losing diamonds. My wedding is slightly less than a month away, and I feel like I am really running out of time! Part of me thinks I should just get a plain platinum band and have my future hubby upgrade it on an anniversary? The downside to that is that I worry that the band is too plain to wear alone in the meantime.

I am currently looking at some bands on e-wedding bands and ID jewelry's website. Ideally, I would like a platinum band with some sparkle. My budget is no more than $1200. Does anyone have any words of advice? Do I keep the ring? Go for a plain platinum band? Find an alternative band? Any suggestions for other diamond bands?

Here are some of the rings I am currently looking at...

As always, thank you so much for your time, help, and opinions!! :)

Re: Wedding Band HELP! Got my ring and not in love with it..

Return it! If you aren't sure you like it now, you definitely won't like it later. If I could not get a really high quality diamond band, I would get the plain band now and later get a 7 stone diamond band or eternity with slightly larger stones than that one.

Re: Wedding Band HELP! Got my ring and not in love with it..

That IS a very wide range of different styles! I think you should return anything that you are not 100% happy with while you can. Take your time and see if you can find different styles you can try on in local stores before committing to a particular style and ordering online.

Re: Wedding Band HELP! Got my ring and not in love with it..

I would return it, I made the mistake once of keeping something that I was not totally in love with and ended up selling it for a lot less which made me feel worse. Try to find something that is the same width as your ering, I like to have balance with my bling.

Re: Wedding Band HELP! Got my ring and not in love with it..

Definitely return it now, while you still can! There are so many bands to choose from, don't let pressure make the decision for you - you'll likely regret it more down the road. It might not be the right style of eternity for your ring, or the right width, or maybe it's simply because, as you said, the diamonds don't sparkle as much as you'd thought. There are plenty of eternities/bands out there with *great* diamonds, at least hold out for one with better quality diamonds!

How about this platinum eternity from Whiteflash for $1095? http://www.whiteflash.com/wedding-bands/divisi-diamond-wedding-band-1095.htm

I didn't like channel set bands but I found shared prong bands didn't look quite right with my ering. I thought it was because my diamond was an OEC and the shared prong bands were MRBs, but then I tried on a band just like this at a jewelers it was love at first sight.... and still is over a year later! It's only 2mm wide and the diamonds are tiny, but they are ISEE2 and H&A, and they sparkle and throw fire like *mad*. The Whiteflash band still gives you the full eternity and platinum well within your budget, too. Oh, and the thin walls protect your ering.... None of that matters if you don't love it with your ering, but they all make it worth considering.

That being said, I do have a plain platinum band that I pair with my ering also. I love switching up the looks now and then. I also like having a more 'wear and tear' band to wear when I am doing something that isn't healthy for my diamond band. However.... if I could only choose one I would choose the diamond band. :)) (And maybe you could look for a deal on a plain band.... dreamer has a plat knife edge listed in the Preloved section for $195. You could get that *and* the Whiteflash band with your budget!)

Good luck! Try to shake off the pressure of the 'deadline' and focus on finding what makes your heart sing!

Re: Wedding Band HELP! Got my ring and not in love with it..

This may not be of any interest, but have you considered an engraved platinum band? I have one (having trouble linking my past post, but you can search under my name) from Victor Canera and I find it to be pretty sparkly even without diamonds. I have found myself wearing this band alone (without any e-ring or diamond stacker) very frequently because I love the way it looks.

Re: Wedding Band HELP! Got my ring and not in love with it..

Actually, I like that style of the shared prong band you have with your e-ring. I think you just need to find one that is a little wider and taller to get a better match with your e-ring dimensions. Take a look at James Allen and Whiteflash. I believe they have quite a few diamond bands that could possibly work.

Re: Wedding Band HELP! Got my ring and not in love with it..

I would return the band. If you don't love it now, you won't love it later. Personally, I love a plain band; it's so classic and convenient; you never have to take it off! You can always get a diamknd band for an anniversary. I did the opposite: I got a diamond wedding band and then I just got a plain band for our 1 year anniversary (with a very sweet engraved message on the inside). I realized there are times i just wanted to wear a plain band so that i did t have to worry anout damaging my diamonds. I got my plain band from Eweddingbands and LOVE it. Great value for the money.

Best of luck to you, and let us know what you decide!

Re: Wedding Band HELP! Got my ring and not in love with it..

You should be able to get either a plain platinum band or an engraved one (either new or vintage) for well under your budget. Either could be worn all the time.

Here's a new engraved platinum band on ebay for a good price, and you can probably make an offer for somewhat less and still get it. The company has other styles, as well.

I think it's just too low and a bit thin. I think if you went with a higher band that was wider you would be happier.

What is the shank height on your setting?

Re: Wedding Band HELP! Got my ring and not in love with it..

Thank you so much for all of your help and suggestions! I called Brilliant Earth and started the return process today. Then, I went to a few B&M stores to try on a bunch of different styles.

I ended up loving the way a 7-stone band looks with my ring. This is one that I tried on today and it looked very pretty:

http://www.baileybanksandbiddle.com...amond-band-in-14k-white-gold-12-carat-tw/7829

It is white gold, however, and I would really like platinum to match my engagement ring. Gypsy, it is funny because it looks just like the ones you suggested from James Allen!

I did find this similar ring from ID Jewelry that seems to be priced within my budget. The only difference I can see is that the prongs seem to come up a little higher. I contacted them to see if it was available/could be made in time:

http://idjewelryonline.com/product_info.php?cPath=22_27&products_id=11088

After some searching on the forums, it looks like ID Jewelry has a good reputation. I am keeping my fingers crossed! If worse comes to worst and it is not available, I think I will just get a plain band and have it upgraded later on.

Thanks again, everyone :)

Re: Wedding Band HELP! Got my ring and not in love with it..

Is this setting too good to be true? Do you trust etsy sellers?

http://www.etsy.com/listing/98635020/diamond-band?

It is pretty much exactly what I am looking for style wise. I contacted the seller and they said platinum is only $100 more, making the grand total $575. I am hesitant because a) it's from Etsy and b) you get what you pay for and this just seems to be so cheap...

The seller says that the ring will be stamped with the platinum grading and comes with appraisal. Thoughts? I am still waiting to hear back from ID Jewelry...

Re: Wedding Band HELP! Got my ring and not in love with it..

With IDJ make sure you tell them you want the band to have PS quality stones.

I would 100% trust IDJ over some uknown etsy vendor. No question.

Re: Wedding Band HELP! Got my ring and not in love with it..

That's kinda what I was feeling too, Gypsy. It's like the saying "if you think it's too good to be true, it probably is..."

Would you mind being more specific about what you mean by "PS quality stones"? Will IDJ know what I am talking about if I just say that phrase? I have been corresponding with a Luann. Thanks again!!

Re: Wedding Band HELP! Got my ring and not in love with it..

Hey- I had a similar dilemma and after trying out over 20 rings, I am planning on biting my bullet and get the Tiffany 7 prong, similar to the one you posted!
My e-ring is smaller and I'm pretty happy with this, slightly large, but I'm swooned

Totally agreed!Never ordering anything before you feel the real one!!

Re: Wedding Band HELP! Got my ring and not in love with it..

Misarisa, I think IDJ's seven stone shared prong would be a great choice to go with your solitaire. ( I'm partial to that look since it is what I have!) Are you going with the 5 pointers? 7pointers? Are the measurements of the band width and height going to work well with your e-ring? I'm also not sure what to make of their photo of the ring with the high prongs...did you talk to them about that?

Re: Wedding Band HELP! Got my ring and not in love with it..

I like the IDJ one you initially posted (with the bars) as well as the BBB link you found that IDJ can make for you, which are similar to Gypsy's JA links. IDJ can get any # of stones across the top for you, in almost any point size. What looked best to my eyes, was having the top of the finger (closed hand from pinky, across the top, to closed hand to middle finger) and then selecting the appropriate points to make that work.

I really like their quality! As Gypsy said, tell them you are a PSer, and they will be aware you are a bit, um... "pickier" .... than the average person! It usually means the stones are F/G colour and VS clarity but be sure to ask for that. You will be impressed with their work and customer service! A suggestion - make sure you phone them, as opposed to just relying on email. Phone response is much quicker and more effective.

Best of luck!

I am embarrassed to say I had to go look up what a 5 pointer vs 7 pointer diamond was, LOL. This is why I come on PS - to get excellent advice and opinions from all of you! I am not sure which to get - the ring I tried on at BBB did not have a label and the woman was unsure of what weight the diamonds were, but thought it was slightly more than 0.25 carats, so maybe it was a 0.35? However, the link I provided earlier from the BBB website says that the ring is 0.50 carats. I also tried on a few seven stone prongs at Tiffany's. The saleswoman thought the 0.25 was a little small, but I didn't mind it. I wish I had taken pictures because now it is all becoming mush in my mind after visiting so many stores! I will ask IDJ about the prong height. Their website does not mention the band width. My e-ring's width is 2mm. Here is a picture of my e-ring from the side - do you think the higher prongs will be a problem?

This is also a link to the same setting as my e-ring, except I got my ring from Mark at ERD and not JA...

Thanks, Enerchi! I am still trying to figure out the point size. I think you are right with what looks best. I am just not sure of what point size will do that. My engagement ring is a size 5 if that helps. IDJ's link for the ring says the 0.35 and 0.49 size are the same price? I am sure that will change though depending on the quality of the diamonds I request. It may be better to go with a better quality 0.35 diamond than lesser quality 0.49. Unfortunately, IDJ is closed on weekends! I am dying having to wait until Monday to speak to them, LOL, but I will definitely call.

I tried on the 7 prong rings from Tiffany's last night, and they are gorgeous! Congrats!!

Re: Wedding Band HELP! Got my ring and not in love with it..

Can you tame the "diamond ring beast", by heading to a mall/local B&M and trying on a few different styles? Any decent jewellers near you where you can see a variety of size stones and try on for comparison? Take your camera with you and make notes (because you WILL forget details when you get home and re examine them!).

Even trying items on, will give you a better idea of what you like- channel, prong, shared prong, bar set, etc. and then the size diamonds/tcw that work best with your setting.

Also, here's a link to the site where IDJ gets some of their settings from, and I've posted the link for the round diamonds. Just click on the variety of styles and then you can see what the details are / each ring.
http://www.uniquesettings.com/products/wedding_bands?ref=1

For example, a popular IDJ band is #2086 - note the diamond width size on one of the tabs on that page - that's what I meant earlier about the top of the finger coverage. Take a soft tape and measure to get an idea of what coverage you'd like. Luann can help you sort out diamond size or #'s based on that, when you chat on Monday.

Re: Wedding Band HELP! Got my ring and not in love with it..

Misarisa, I should have been more clear with my earlier post, so I'm sorry if I confused you! I have a 7-stone shared prong w-band with each stone weighing approx. .07 ct (@.50ctw), which just barely covers the top half of my size 6 finger. My solitaire diamond is smaller than yours at .78 ct, and I didn't want to overpower it with too big of stones in the band. Like Enerchi suggests, measure the top half of your ring finger to get an idea of the size stones you'll need for good coverage if that is what you want. Another thing I was careful about was that the dimensions of the band were close in width and height to my e-ring, but not so high that it would hit the prongs of my solitaire. The prongs of your solitaire are sitting lower than mine (I have a cathedral setting), so you might just have to try on rings to see what height works best, or you may need a thin spacer band to wear between the two in order to prevent scratching and damage to your e-ring prongs. When you talk to IDJ, ask them for dimensions of the bands in the various ctw (.35, .49, .70, etc). I hope this helps more. Good luck, and let us know what you decide to go with!
