Wedding band for wide e-ring?

My engagement ring has three .25 carat diamonds on each side of the centerstone in a u-prong setting. My ring is a tank of a ring! So - my engagement ring has an approx. a 4.1mm band. I have a skinny skinny wedding band. Anything else feels like it might be ‘tight’. My ring size is a 5. I’d love to get a band of .25 stones as a wedding band, but I’m concerned it’ll feel clunky and uncomfortable with such a wide engagement ring. Any thoughts from folks with wide engagement rings? Anyone advice from folks that like to stack their rings?

Hmmm... 25 pointers are about 4 mm across. I'm thinking it might be helpful if you would post a pic or two of your e-ring on your hand?

P.S. Do you have any interest in "auditioning" such a band by buying an inexpensive replica & wearing that for awhile? If so, hop over to the Fabulous Fashion Jewelry forum
to get suggestions as to where you could get an inexpensive silver or gold-plated and cz ring close to the style & the dimensions of what you're considering.

Do you have a picture?

Uhhh, that is a beautiful ring. I do think that it would look perfect with an eternity band with .25 stones to match the side stones. But I know what you mean. I have a three stone with good finger coverage and an eternity band, but it feels a bit too clunky to wear both, although it looks nice, I guess. But I end up wearing one or the other most of the time. I like them as stand alones. So you could get a band and have 3 styles. But I like the idea of getting a cz band with that proportions to try if you like it.

Oooh, what a lovely ring (I sure wouldn't call it a "tank" 'cause that made it sound, in my mind, like it might be a lumbering hulk; rather, it has "presence" without being overblown or disproportionate to the sapphire) -- and how I envy your gracefully long fingers!

Seems to me you definitely have sufficient "real estate" below your second knuckle to carry off an eternity ring of 25 pointers. But you might also also audition a cz one with slightly smaller stones as well; you might end up preferring the juxtaposition of the somewhat different sized diamonds.

Looking forward to learning what you decide!

I actually think a very thin but high set eternity might look great, one that is half the width of the engagement diamonds. For a thin band, it would be important for it's outer circumference to be the same as your engagement ring, so they are level with each other.

I feel like sometimes 2 big rings make it hard to appreciate just how large (and 0.25s are large in my books) the stones actually are; not underwhelming but each ring competing with it's neighbour. While a thin band can make the bigger stones really stand out.

That center stone is mesmerizing, is it a sapphire or Tanzanite, or something else entirely? I stole some photos from the 5 stone thread to show what I mean about the different looks. I hope that's ok.

I think if you are not used to wearing a ring it might feel big/bulky to start or thinking about adding something else too. you may just get used to it. If the rings are sized right they won't feel tight. Personally I don't think your ring looks bulky and the band would compliment it nicely.
For full disclosure...my wedding ring is 4.2mm on the back! and the eternity band I sometimes wear with it is also 4.2.

Hi!
I'd choose a 2 mm - maybe 3 mm- plain band: let your e-ring be the main piece.

Thank you so much! For your 3 stone, do you use that as an e-ring? Is it weird to wear just the e-ring as a stand-alone without a WB? I know the questions been asked before, and personal preference rules - but I’m a newlywed so trying to figure what feels right

Thank you! Heheheh, tank does sound a little aggressive, but it feels like one compared my historical tastes which leaned ‘dainty’ - think 1.8mm-ish bands and 4-7mm centerstones! Very interesting idea to try a thinner diamond WB, too! I haven’t tried it yet, but I’ll check that out

Very interesting!!! I’m really digging this smaller band idea - and good point on making it high enough so they can be flush/level. The center stone is a sapphire! It’s a family heirloom from my in-laws dating back to the 1800’s. I truly love it. It holds its color VERY well; it can go from mid-cornflower to a darker slightly electric blue. I worry a little about the open setting and wonder if I should have had it halo’d for protection for the center stone...but I also just love the ‘solitaire’ look that screams e-ring so I went with it.

The first setting I was drawn to was a halo with big stones (don’t remember how big, maybe .15?) and it was a glamorama look! I still think about it sometimes, lol! Maybe a design I’ll chose for a future RHR.

Oo

I currently have a skinny skinny YG band - I think it’s around 1.8mm. You can barely see it at all (at least that’s what I think)

I think you could totally rock a band/eternity band with .25 stones. I would be sure to match the height of your engagement ring to make it as comfortable as possible. I love, love your heirloom ring!

The story is, that my DH custom designed an e-ring for me many many years ago with a half carat F/IF (the only one of this quality I have) diamond in a very thick band. The diamond is embedded in the band. The ring was so „present“, that I just wore that as my wedding ring. But keep in mind that I‘m from Europe and we did not, at least then, have a big engagement ring culture. In fact, my half carat felt HUGE at that time. I still love that ring! I never took it off and it fit perfectly (still does, when it is on) but due to my fat knuckles, it‘s a fight taking it off and putting it on. So years went by and our son was born. My husband then saw this 2ct vintage ring on display, thought it was nice and got it as a present. You can imagine how that felt! Overly huge! I almost never wore it. Also the setting was a bit odd. But I loved the stone (far from PS standards though). DH always talked about resetting it in a three stone. A lot later I came across two half carat diamond earrings in my favourite antique market and bought them. Rather included, but good cut and sparkly, so bought them. We then reset the stone and it turned out so nicely - despite all those imperfect stones - that I started to wear it almost daily - sort of my new engagement ring. How fast you get used to bigger ;-). It’s my imperfect perfect heart ring! The jeweller made it to go with my eternity band I got for our 10 year anniversary.
You should wear a band with your beautiful ring - I love, that it is an old family stone, so romantic, so full of history. And it has such nice presence that it can be a stand alone! But then, being newly wedded, it’s perfect to have a band! I also like the idea of a bit smaller stones but making it (more or less) even with your ring. It would look good both with bigger or smaller stones but also with a plain band.

@Roselina - your rings are so beautiful!!! I love the bezel/embedded look on a wide band - very chic, and the three stone is of course such a classic! I love your proportions too. Totally agree it’s shockingly easy to adjust to size - I thought my ring was positively a boulder when I first started wearing it. Now I wonder what it would be like to get a spread-y 3ct oval haha!

I agree, I think the newlywed part of me wants to wear a wedding band - feels official that way! Lol.

I thought a lot about a three-stone setting for this ring even played around with some online pairs and proportions, but in the end we just walked into the jeweler’s and picked out a setting from what had already (and the weekend before Christmas, so the store was teeming with shoppers), and had them set it on the spot. Very un-PS, but it made it pretty easy to be decisive and it was fun to do it with my hubby!

ETA - you can see the facet abrasion over the years from this view. It’s not as visible on the hand/especially in light settings where the stone appears a little lighter.

Stunning color!
Can you post a picture of your e-ring with your current wedding band please?

Hiya @purplesilk - absolutely! I actually bought the WB first, hence this thread lolA303A04D-F430-4484-B17D-8AE415668238.jpeg

@purplesilk I actually kind of like it - but as @737lizakg astutely pointed out, a ‘height match’ is really what I need. Even for a plain band, I should have go for a knife edge, or a high eternity. The WB is so flush with my hand that it basically disappears!

Just sharing my experience.
My plain wedding band has a circular section with 3 mm diameter, my eternity ring is also 3 mm tall but the feeling between the fingers is totally different because the prongs hurt so bad.
I usually wear my plain wedding band with a graduated five diamond band; sometimes I add the eternity ring to my usual stack: I really like the look but it's really uncomfortable and painful.
I tried the eternity ring with the five stone ring -without the plain band between them - but
1) the five stone setting would destroy the prongs of the eternity ring;
2)they blend too much, I can appreciate neither the five stone ring not the eternity ring.
My advice is to buy a cheep cz eternity ring and try different combinations.
Your engagement ring is beautiful and I really like how it looks with you wedding band...it reminds me of the Duchess of Cambridge 's wedding set...

Best to you,
purplesilk
