Just when I thought the craziness was over, I am now looking at all the different wedding bands I can get to go with my e ring. I have a vatche royal crown setting so I know unless I get the matching vatche it wont sit flush with it but that''s okay. My question is which diamond bands hold together better from abuse from say knocking it into walls or on desks, a channel set band or a shared prong set band. And which is more practical? An eternity band with the diamonds all the way around or an anniversary band with only like 8-15 diamonds half way around?

Which one or combination of those holds up better?

Channel set:

Shared Prong set:

And one last question? If the diamonds in the band are of lesser clarity and color than my e ring, will it make the entire set look off? A lot of the wedding bands have I1 or I2 clarity and have H or lower for their colors. My ering is a D VS2.

And and all opinions needed.

Facets, a Price Scope Vendor, at www.signedpieces.com carries eternity rings with higher color and clarity stones.

White Flash cuts their own ACA melee and it's E/F color VS clarity. They also make eternity rings.

Noone that I know of lists melee on the website but most of the PS Vendors can source premium quality melee and build a ring for you that is higher color and clarity.

Maybe one of the smiths will chime in for you about durability issues.

Hi All!

If I may ask an additional related question --- what are the chances of an eternity band (shared prong setting) accidentally scratching a solitaire engagement ring (Tiffrany 6-prong setting) that it sits next to? Diamonds can scratch diamonds, right?

Never thought of that. Hmm...I''m thinking I''ll probably go with a channel cut eternity band that has a 3/4 bar at the bottom in case it needs to be resized with only a 1/4 to 1/2 TCW in diamonds. I like sparkly things but I want the main attention to be on my e ring.

I couldn''t access those pages.

Pepper, never allow diamonds to touch diamonds, terrible things can happen. How an et can affect a 6 prong I don''t know. It may wear, but a shared prong et should have metal a little more proud on the design, then the diamonds. It will be normal.

A well made shared prong ring will be ok, but not as secure as a well made chanel set ring. It depends on the thickness of the shared prongs and the thickness of the walls of the channel, moreso on the skill of the setter, but...

There is not much information to go by. I don''t know your setting off-hand, but Vatche will invariable utalise a bunch of bench workers who may or may not be better able to equip you with a flush sitting to the e-ring then any other bunch. There is no such science that suggests branded names can do any better, all you can hope is that they are a good company. It should not pose any problems...

Stones sitting all the way around - full et, will cause problems in resizing - or may never be able to be resized. This is the only consideration here.

Try to match your colours. Take advantage of the leads here as there is no reason at all where you can''t have diamonds to meet your requirements. If you are restricted to low grades, you are dealing with mass-produced product, which might not do justice to your e-ring

I tried again and the photos came up.

The rounded edges of the channel set ring give it securuty though the metal covering the diamonds is very thin. Being plat' the et should be ok, though there is not much metal mass under the stones.

You have 1/2 carat difference in diamond weight. This shows in the channel set as doesn't look too good.

If you want a good ring, go for a 1/2 et with bigger stones. Don't mind about which ring overshadows the other. It's dazzle on the finger which counts. Diamonds have a habbit of complimenting each other.

Personally, I don't like either ring. Sorry if that offends, but the channel ring sports diamonds that will never hold any real brilliance and the shared prong ring won't last the test of time.

A good full et is very expensive and invaribaly a feature of its own.

I don't understand your last post regarding 3/4 bar etc...
