Wearing yellow and white together????

Just curious, I recently reset my three stone ering in platinum, b/c my preferences have really changed over the past couple of years. I much prefer platinum / white over yg now. I don''t mix metals and now usually wear only white / platinum unless I wear YG on both hands, in which case I''ll still wear my plat basket set studs, b/c you really can''t see the setting anyways. My question is this: over the holidays I saw my SIL, who I have always considered to have impeccable taste. She had mixed her colors. Her ering set is plat., but she was wearing a yellow gemstone as a RHR, and yg earrings. What''s the general concensus on mixing? I''ve got several yg pieces which are attractive, but I seldom wear, now that I''ve reset my ering in plat.. For some reason I always thought it was a kind of fashion faux-paux to mix? Wondering? Thanks!

My wedding set is YG and I want to eventually get them switch to WG or plat, and my diamond studs are set in YG, but I'm hoping to get them set in WG martinis soon. I much prefer white metals now, but I'll wear WG RHRs, pendants, etc? I don't really care. I do try to match my RHR with my necklace though. I won't wear a WG and YG ring on the same hand.

If this is a fashion faux-paus, then I'm a big one! Oh well!

I love the look of two tone, so yes I will mix my metals. I will wear my wedding ring and ering YG, on one hand and my plat eternity on the other hand, and plan to wear plat studs. My own theory is as long as the overall look works. I also have a silver coloured watch, so with a yellow wedding band would always have had two colours.

For me it is about the overall design working together.

i love mixing metals. i wear yellow gold and rose gold together, and also my platinum eternity band with a yg band. i prefer mixing metals that have a patina or a satin-finish rather than super high-polished metals, for some reason.

if you go to barneys, twist, or other stores with artsy jewelry, you''ll see that many designers favor the mixing of metals and colors.

my favorite look is the combination of Tiffany Novo eternity bands in rose gold, yellow gold, and platinum. the slight shimmer of color is very tasteful and elegant.

I love both yellow and white metals. The only rule-of-thumb I have is that I try to make sure that my pendant and earrings are the same metal. My wedding set is YG, so often times I pair that with WG or Silver necklace/earrings.

I mix metals all the time, my watch is stainless steel and I wear YG e-ring and wedding band on the same hand, it looks fine, and mix up earrings and necklaces as I wish. I used to try to stick to one colour, but nowadays my views have changed and I mix them up to good effect quite happily.

I think it''s a matter of personal preference. Some people like how yellow and white metals look together, others don''t. I''m in the latter camp. On any given day I wear either all YG or all WG/plat/silver. If you don''t like to mix metals, you can always get a blingly YG wband to wear in place of your plat ering on those yellow days

When I was younger I would never mix metals. I also didn''t own as many pieces. Now, I just wear what I want, so I end up mixing metals all the time. Lots of my pieces have colored sapphires or colored diamonds, so I tend to match the colored stones to my clothes. The metal they are in is secondary, and I just don''t worry about it.

I''m another one who doesn''t worry about it too much. My ering is platinum, and I wear that every day regardless of my other jewelry. I usually try to match my other pieces to each other, so they''re usually all white or yellow. However, I have been known to wear a platinum ring, a silver ring, and YG gemstone earrings, so I don''t really play by any rules!

. YG ERing (soon to be set!) and mostly YG necklaces, but I have a few WG necklaces and rings that I mix in. My watch is two-tone so anything goes! I tend to lean more towards YG b.c I think it looks best on my skin.

I mix, with conditions. My e-ring and w-ring are platinum, and I figure platinum and diamond is a "neutral" that can be mixed with any color, whether clothing or other jewelry. So, the wedding set is the constant, then I match the metal of any other pieces I might wear (RHR, right arm bracelet, earrings, pendant -- not generally all at the same time) to each other.

I wonder about this too. I am very ''into'' my plat at the moment. But somethine I hanker for my YG, I just feel it is a faux pas for ''me'' to mix. So I do not mix, I wear one or the other.

But I do not think ill of those who choose to mix, I just oggle the piece; if it is nice

I am a mixer! I have a white gold engagement ring, white gold 5 stone diamond right hand ring, white gold bezel set diamond earrings and a stainless steel watch. I also feel like my e-ring, earrings and watch are kind of neutrals.

When I do wear yellow gold necklaces I usually also wear a yellow gold right hand ring. I also have a Cartier rolling ring with three golds and a dainty twisted Cartier band with three golds. I usually wear those with a gold necklace for some reason, though!

Thanks everyone for chiming in! I''m not sure if I''ll actually be brave enough to mix my metals, but at least I know that if I do, I''m in good company. I think I''ll probably fall in line with Kay, considering the plat. ering & w band to be "neutral" and then matching the rest to each other.

My every day watch is actually a two-tone Tag, so I guess I really can go either way

Thanks again everyone, I guess the only real rule is that we all ought to be comfortable with what we decide to wear. Maybe I''ll decide to be adventurous, and take a couple of baubles out of "retirement!"

I''m a bit of a mixer too. I''ve always beek a YG nut, but in past years have developed a liking for some WG pieces. I have 2 WG diamond pendants that work as sliders, so I take them off the WG chains they came on, and I wear them on YG chains, and I love the contrast. I have WG claw set diamond studs which works, because on all of my YG claw set rings, the claws are WG. I also have a WG diamond claw set eternity ring as a RHR, which I sometimes stack with a thin YG band on either side, for that 2-tone effect. It''s jolly good fun, really

I''m not going to let my ering dictate what other metals I can wear because I love white, yellow and rose gold and platinum. I don''t mind having white on one hand and yellow on the other, and I love stacking rings in different tones. I have watches in different metals; I won''t stop wearing my gold watch (on my left wrist) because my ering is white.

When I get my permanent ering setting and wband, I may even have rose/yellow gold accents.

It does bother me if earrings and necklaces don''t match... I usually want the necklace to match the bracelet as well and I have to have the bracelet matching the ring on the same hand.

mixing metals is considered totally okay, and with the fact that both are popular it seems inevitable. I have been building my jewelry wardrobe to include a lot more yellow since I have not worn much of it in the past I feel I need some key pieces. I sort of count my e ring as something unto itself, and blend the other pieces I am wearing to go together. I will often wear both together and think it looks great. I also love rose gold which is popular again now. White and gold metals have their moments of popularity, but overall I think both really work and it is really a matter of preference. I would not set good diamonds in yellow prongs, (I might do a yellow band with white prongs) but I would wear yellow mixed in with my e ring for sure.
