sooo...should women wear longer shorts as they get older?

I think it depends on what flatters you the most. If your legs are in great shape and you have no problems showing them off then great. There is a women who lives near me who is in her late 60s who is a fitness nut and has the most gorgeous figure. She doesn''t wear short dresses, but she does wear shorts that are mid thigh length and I think she looks great in them.

You should buy your wife a pair of Daisy Dukes

I think your age is less important than how you look in the shorts. I never wore shorts till I was in my 40s because I was just too skinny. I don''t like to see really short shorts on anyone. Young or old male or female.

Well, thritto - un-PC as it is, I definitely agree that it depends more on a woman''s figure than her age... and those really, really short "cheeky" shorts belong in the garbage, no matter what one''s age or figure!

I totally agree. Some shorts are just too short period!
I agree that the length of the shorts should depend on the figure of the woman more than her age.

And while we''re on the topic, I hate shorter shorts for men especially. What is up with that? My dh and I were cycling this weekend and we saw quite a few men jogging with shorts that just did not look right.

I like the 5" inseam.

Not sure longer shorts help in all cases, though...

I love those pics! I really shouldn't have wandered over here from my usual forum . . . LOL

I agree shorts should look good on people who wear them, and I see more too-short errors than long short errors. But I do have a CONTROVERSIAL opinion on shorts and their kin. You ready?

NO capris!

Sorry, I call them "leg shorteners". I don't care how old or how young, they just make everybody look stubby. I am hoping to see them banned.

Especially in white.

Another controversial opinion: you ready?

NO white pants either.

On anybody. Ever. I live in FL and I swear to God, when the ladies hit 60, they drag them into a little room somewhere and stuff them into white capris. Or size 12 white pants on their withered size 6 frames. I call them OLP's (old lady white pants). And yes, they make your butt look fat. Every. Single. Pair.

IMHO . . .

My shorts have gotten longer the older I am. I have long femurs so shorts that would be mid-thigh on some women are really short on me. I now wear Bermuda shorts for the most part and I''m very comfortable in them. When I was a teenager my inseam was certainly significantly shorter.

Hey Kenny! I have my sources...

I have recently been feeling that I need some longer shorts and I have the long leg issue. My pants are 35" inseam to not be flooders. The legs are proportionate from thigh to calf so when I buy shorts for regular legnth legs they are really short on me too. In order to get them to be mid thigh there is so much short that they dont even look right with my cute tank tops.

The capri issue. I like capris and I can assure that they do not make my legs look stumpy in any way.

Ditto - I have long legs, and I can wear capris just fine - or, at least, I think so! I actually usually roll jeans up my shins, too, as the slight "stumping" effect makes me look more proportional.

And I wear lots of light khaki pants and white skirts - my non-existent backside can use some plumping, even if it's just an illusion!

I''m a big fan of bermuda length. They''re perfect for all ages!
...and I love people of walmart!

I think people should wear whatever they''re comfortable in as long as it properly fits them.

I can''t stand seeing the bottom of a girls/womans butt cheeks peeking out of their shorts in public. And I''m not an old geezer, I''m only 21. I just don''t understand it AT ALL.

Some women should not wear shorts at any age. At home for me, ( yes, I''m a geezer ) it''s my husbands mesh, to the knee, loose athletic shorts. Out and about I''ve always worn skirts from knee to ankle length. I love the comfort and femininity they provide for me. Flip flops, heels or boots, tank or tee, sweater or down coat, I love my skirts!!!!

I think as I have gotten older, the length of my shorts have gotten longer but that is just what I am comfortable with. I just bought my first pair of bermuda shorts and I am definitely liking them. My standard shorts are the ones with the 5" inseam.

I think I''m in the minority who doesn''t find super short shorts offensive...at least not in the appropriate venues. Like beaches, resorts, swimming pools, as cover-ups. I wouldn''t wear Daisy Dukes on the street, that''s for sure.

But as long as I''m still in good shape, I''ll still wear my 3" inseams as I get older - I have really short legs, so I hate wearing longer shorts - they make me look stumpy!

Another one here for wearing what works for your figure, I do not wear bermudas, they look just wrong on me, I have shorter stumpy legs and wear mostly capris or skirts and occasional gym type shorts if I am gardening, working out or fishing / kayaking. If I looked good in short shorts I would wear them. I have found that the older I get the less I worry about it, When I weighed much less, I thought my arms were too jiggly and would not wear tanks or anything like that. Now I am overweight and older, if I am warm I wear a tank. We all have jiggly bits and most of us a slightly skewed body image so thank god for classic styles and basic color schemes, they prevent me from horrifying my children but you might see me on a beach in 20 years wearing yellow capris, a purple shirt and a orange hat and thinking I am styling, hehe. Maybe yellow short shorts?

I can't stand seeing ANYONE in really short shorts..it drives me nuts...but I guess it is "to each his own"

P.S. my white pants look HOT on me, if I do say so myself.

let me be the judge...pics please!!

I think as long as a woman has good legs and no cellulitis, she can wear whatever length she wants, be it shorts or dresses. No one would give a second thought to a male old geezer with O-shaped, thin, hairy legs wearing short shorts...It is a double standard!

P.S. there is a new procedure to remove cellulitis from your lower body. Women who had it said it hurts as hell...but works.

No one should wear shorts that barely cover the cheeks. NO ONE. Dont care age, what shape you''re in. And I happen to agree, there are age appropriate shorts, and they happen to be a bit longer.
