Wear Ering alone...

Married 19 years - wear a diamond 3 stone on my left hand, had my engagement diamond reset in a JM design (right hand) and no wedding band.

i often wear my e ring alone on my right hand, it is a simple rb solitare and i love the way it looks so clean on it's own. my w band is channel set rb so i often find that is enough on one hand for me. if im in the mood for more bling i have 2 stacking bands so i can load up!

I think that it is perfectly ok to wear any combination that you want to. Many of my friends only wear an engagement ring and never have a wedding band at all. Personally, I have always adored the look of the wedding ring and engagement ring on the same finger. Since my engagement ring is pretty thin I can easily do that.

Why does it matter what anyone else "interprets" from your rings? It doesn't take a ring (or two) to be married. Tradition isn't as popular as it used to be. Do what makes you happy and enjoy your beautiful rings in whatever combination you want!

I wore my ering by itself for 10 years. I finally decided I wanted some more bling and bought a 5 stone to wear with it.
Didnt bother me not to wear a wedding band. Didnt really care what others thought.

So...if you want to wear it alone...please do!

Congratulations on 32 years of marriage, stci! I think you should wear your ring any way you want. The "traditional" e-ring-wedding-band set is a pretty new invention (early to mid 1900s) and it's not a tradition you see in every culture either. A ring on the ring finger of the left hand is a symbol of marriage in the USA; in other countries, the wedding band is worn on the right hand.

One of my grandmothers, who was married in the late 1920s, wore an Art Deco engraved, filigreed ring set with an OEC and small sapphire accents. It was the only ring she wore. My other grandmother, married about the same time, also had an Art Deco diamond ring that she wore alone, no band. In the 1950s, for her 25th anniversary, she had her diamond reset in a classic 1950s illusion style setting and got a matching diamond wedding band. People's taste change over time. Styles change.

I wear my halo alone sometimes; with a band sometimes; or wear it on my left hand with a wedding band on my right hand sometimes - I like to have options. When I wear my halo alone, I've never had anyone ask me if I was engaged. Mostly they just say "pretty ring" and leave it at that.

I tend to think of any person -- male or female -- wearing a ring on their ring finger of their left hand (in the USA) as "taken," whether married or engaged.

Excellent post and all true!

I agree with all who say to wear your ring or rings as you like. I used to always wear my wedding or anniv ring with my yg solitaire. Then, last year, I reset my ering to a wg split shank style. I did have a matching plain band made to fit it, and picked up a couple little pave bands. I vary my look with my mood. Ering, ering with one, two, or all three bands. I even will sometimes use the pave bands with the yg anniv band I had for the original solitaire. Then I right put my now ering on my right hand. No one has ever questioned me. If they did, I just say, after 21 years, and a few nice rings, I like to play with my rings. Why shouldn't I?

PS. I really like my wg solitaire best by itself. I think that shows off my setting and stone to their best look, but like you, OP, I don't always feel most comfortable with it like that. But, also like you, I think I can get used to it. Why not wear it to it's best advantage? Jewelry is supposed to make us happy right? If it doesn't, how is that a proper symbol of a marraige?

Do what you want and feel comfortable with.

I like the look of a wedding band or eternity band (or both) on the left hand and the stand alone rock ring on the right hand. If they can easily be worn together then I like it fine on the left hand.

but... it's the 21st century - enjoy yourself however you like it!! There's no wrong answer :)
