Ways to stop a guard chain from slipping?

I'm hoping someone has the perfect fix to help me! I have a long guard chain that I usually wear looped twice around my neck. My problem is that, with the weight of a pendant attached to the clip, the second loop generally slips tighter very quickly as the weight pulls the fob end downwards. I end up with a very short loop (kind of throttling me around the neck!) and the other loop being much longer than I'd like.

I've been feeding the doubled chain through a plastic ring noodle (secured at the back of my neck, so it's hidden by my hair), which kind of grips the two chains together a bit and stops them sliding, for a while at least. But it's not a great fix!

Does anyone else have the same problem or is it just me?! How do you solve it? Is there something you can buy to grip the two loops together more reliably? I've searched on line but the only device I've found is something to stop two separate chains from tangling if they're worn layered and I can't envisage how that would work with one, folded-over chain.

Thanks for any help you can give - I fully appreciate it's a ridiculous 'problem' in the grand scheme of things!

How wide is the loop that holds your pendant? You may be able to thread the chain through it, twice, so the chain isn’t wrapped around your neck. I’ve done that with a long chain, before. It works, and doesn’t choke me.

Get a closure that matches the metal and use it to set the lenght by passing it through two of the open link in the back. You can add a charm if you like too.

A jewelry should be able to measure the chains and tell you what size you need. They can order it and attach the charm of your choice if that charm won't annoy you. If so, just have them clip off the loop and file it down.

That’s a genius plan! Thank you @rockysalamander! It’s been bugging me for ages, I wish I’d posted months ago... A much more elegant fix than a plastic ring noodle!

Hi @lissyflo. I am not sure but would a necklace shortener help solve your problem?

ETA I see you already received a reply from @rockysalamander lthat solves your problem woohoo! Thanks Rocky!

Thank you too, @missy! I had seen those links on Amazon when I was searching for a fix but didn’t think they’d work on a continuous chain (without a clasp) until I watched the video you linked. Clearly my search engine skills aren’t top notch!

*BANG* problem solved!! :bigsmile:

My mom was in town visiting and I mentioned this to her and showed her the pictures. She said that you could also use a pearl shortener (or extender...they go by both names), if you can find one of fine enough gauge metal. Failing that, she said suggested a more rounded clasp (see below). The more consistent thickness of the ring would make it a bit easier to get two links on that the lobster I posted. What can I say? Mom's always right. ;)2 {but don't tell her I said so!}
