Anybody have any suggestions for a newbie interested in picking up watchmaking? I am a surgeon by day job, and love working with my hands on delicate tasks. It seems like an interesting hobby.
Any ideas on introductory books, or where to get an introductory set of tools?
My brother is a surgeon. His hobby is tying flys for fishing. Must be a dexterity thing.
Unfortunately, it seems that watchmaking is a dying art form. I wish you luck. The best watchmakers train/apprentice in Switzerland. Try a google search & hook up w/ some of the watch forums. They could probably point you in the right direction if you only want a hobby.
BTW, when my brother retires, he plans on opening a fishing store. Watchmaking would be your second career.
Good luck with your search & let us know.
