Hi EC lovers! I am on the hunt for a warm color O-P-Q-R (even warmer down to the end of alphabet would be a consideration) Emerald Cut to be set in yellow gold. Would love to know how large a stone could be found for $11,000ish. I am not wanting obvious inclusions or dark frames but eye clean. Do you have a favorite source you can recommend? Feel free to include links! Thanks for your help!!

I think you may have trouble finding that. The vendors with huge virtual listings like James Allen and Blue Nile only go down to J or K color. I didn't see any good K stones but you can get a 2 ct stone for that budget. There might be a low color antique stone out there somewhere, but you'll have to look hard to find one. You might contact Old World Diamonds and ask them.

For W-X, Y-Z and fancy light yellow, you can try Leibish or Diamonds by Lauren.

You are so right DiamondSeeker. I had similar thoughts after searching the usual suspects and was surprised to find nothing below a K. I intentionally want a warm color and am hoping to find a larger warm stone in my budget since emeralds face up small (I have a 2.24 OEC and am shocked to find 3 carat emeralds facing up just marginally larger!). Great idea to call Adam. I assume he has stones of other shapes not on his website or perhaps can source them. I didn't see much at DBL but could call them. Thanks!

I've seen P and Q color in small sizes sometimes on Solomonbrothers. Not sure if they have larger ones.
I got my .41 M EC from IDJ.
DBL would have fancy colored ones.
Not everyone recommends Enchanted Diamonds, but I saw some lower colored ones there, too (again, I was looking at small ct weight stones).

Don't use Enchanted Diamonds for this. Any vendor can call in stones from a virtual list. That's how they all get their stones! DBL does specialize in fancy colors and the lowest colors before that, although I am sure they can get stones of any color.

I will say that Good Old Gold is especially good at evaluating cut, and I'd want a well cut stone no matter the color. They can call in just about any stone you'd see on any other site, unless it was an in-house stone. They can access antique stones as well. You might ask if they could see what they can find if you really want a low color but not fancy. I think there will be very few to choose from in that color range, however, and finding a well cut one would be almost a miracle. You'll realistically find more at the J-K-L color level, probably.

Interestingly, my AVR is about the size of your OEC, and I have also been looking at EC's. I agree with you that I'd ideally want a 2.5 ct to be in size proportion to my round. Watch the depth, though, because the deeper ones naturally will face up smaller.

And a WX also close to your price range

Granted they are sold. But some ideas...and some great pictures for comparison.

Please let me try on your EC when we are in Vegas! I think that will help me SO much with color range and size of diamond! :wavey:

Are antique EC different? You have my full attention at antique!!

My 2.24 measures 8.32mm I believe so it pains me that the EC look so small as I am so drawn to them. I figured a lower color ( which I truthfully prefer) would allow for a larger stone. My OEC is an EGL M but I am so fair that a yellower stone may be more flattering....or that's what I'm telling myself :-P

The size is more about the ratio.

Grace sold a beautiful J 2.06 ct with the following measurements. Measures 7.77 x 6.56 x 4.61 mm
My 2.03 is measures 8.13 x 6.63 x 4.28 mm. You have to decide what look you are after based on the ratio of Length to Width

This is helpful information

I'm actually not an expert but they would tell you to get an ASET too.

About Antique ECs being different I'm certain I can't answer that question But someone who does know antiques will hopefully weigh in. I love my K and I know many here recommend higher colors in ECs but there are a couple of PSers here with K's. You can look up Woofmama and asscher girls. They are both K.

When I was in NY I had an opportunity to try on this baby and it was nothing short of stunning! :naughty:

You can always add nice size side stones for better coverage! :Up_to_something:

David found two for me to look at when I was shopping. This is one I didn't pick.

That one does look good. I wish they had photos!!

Sphene is this one you posted : Emerald 3.020 M Vs2 Excellent 64.10 74.00 GIA $10,453

The same as this? http://www.solomonbrothers.com/DiamondDetail.aspx?&sku=D356079

The prices are different, strangely. I wonder why....

In any case, hoping someone can help me evaluate the spreads and stats of your list. On paper the 3.02 looks good but is a 1.21 ratio good? I have not a clue! Help!

I have sent a request for photo, video and ASET on the 3.02. Interested to see them! They offer military discounts too which is nice.

These are just virtual listings from a diamond supplier. These are not stones that Solomon Bros actually have in stock. That is why I said to use one vendor to call in stones for you. But Solomon would not be who I would use because I would want one of the PS vendors who do light performance testing and videos, such as Good Old Gold.

The 3.02 has a huge 74% table. That would not be a good stone as it would just have a huge flat top. My absolute max to recommend for a table might be 65-66. I personally would prefer 58-62.

Thats a fair point but unfortunately for the money $11,000, size 3ct and color above M or darker thats required there will not be a lot of choice unless you know better DS

Great point, I guess I shouldn't have sent them an email then. Shoot. I'm still curious to see it but if it's a flop then I can use good old gold for the remainder of the search. Or maybe GOG could still call that one in just to look at it? I'm definitely looking for warm stones.

Maybe I will start with Adam to inquire about antique cuts since I purchased my OEC from him and he was such a breeze to work with.....but he can't do ASET if I recall?

Sorry, cannot vet anything by the numbers - will need pictures, preferably a video too.

Call Good Old Gold! They are wonderful at finding Ec's.
