Want to refine old gold to make new piece?

I am looking for advice regarding an antique ring I have. I am interested in having the ring refined so it can be remade into a new piece. There is not much information that I have found online about refining just a single piece of gold; I am wondering if this is feasible at a reasonable price?

Also, I have another diamond ring that I want to sell or trade in. Does anyone have any advice on the best way to sell something like this?

I recently had a piece that I wanted to have refined. My jeweler said that it is better to trade it in as scrap. It is not feasible to make a new piece because the alloys in the gold need to be refined out first and redone. As far as selling a piece, loupe troupe seems to be a good site. Good luck!
