Thanks Sylvesterii - interesting.

I remember an article in the WSJ over the summer that talked about a new stamp for (I think) 525 Platinum. So rather than 950 or 900 or Irid., this stamp was meant to designate a platinum alloy that was only 52.5% platinum. It said the new platinum alloy was meant to help reduce the cost of a "platinum" piece.

(Someone correct me if I have the stamp and % wrong - the article was a while ago. Thanks.)

It will be interesting to see if this catches on. People have very different ideas about what metals are valuable. I have a friend that considers Sterling Silver to be costume jewelry. Shocked me. So how people percieve this metal will affect it''s catching on.
