VS2 with a black crystal in the table, should I care?

I am looking at a VS2 diamond and there is a black crystal in the table. In the magnified pictures, i can see the reflection which provides for some black spec on the face. The sales associate said this diamond is eye clean, after I asked if anything could be seen by scrutinizing the diamond from all angles. She said it's deeper in the diamond and not at the surface.

I did some research on this forum regarding a black crystal in an VS2. Most people said they didn't think it was a big deal since it's a VS2 and poses no structural damage. But i also read some people said they generally stay away from crystals in the table, but gave no reason. And I also read that some ppl stay away from black crystals , but white crystals are OK. Should i steer away from this diamond because of the black crystal? Should i be concerned about the reflection of it in the magnified pics?

What other questions should I be asking the sales associate to get comfortable with the black crystal? I'm okay with it not being mind-clean, but I just don't want to see any black specs at any distance, at any angle.

Thanks in advance!

Who graded the diamond? If it's AGS or GIA, I wouldn't worry. Any other lab, I would.

Can you give us a link to the stone?

It looks like a gorgeous diamond and the crystal won't compromise the beauty.

^^^ This. That's a stunner.

I got a bit more info from the associate as she said eyeclean from the top. I guess from the bottom and side, she said that she can see the black specs from about 6 inches. This is going to go in a solitaire 6-prong setting. I am not really sure in my mind if i'll be bothered or not by having the specs visible if looking from another angle, not face up. What are your thoughts? Should I keep looking?

Those specks are so tiny I can't imagine that you'll be able to see them in a mounted stone. All you'll be able to see in that ACA is sparkle!

Thanks everyone! Looking for a diamond/setting/wedding band is giving me serious anxiety. LOL

I plan to get a setting a WF also. After finding this forum, I literally spent hours also looking at settings, and finally gave up and decided to just make it simple and go with a 6 prong from WF knowing that I can always upgrade at a later time. Do you recommend I have WF send me the diamond to look at unset before getting it mounted? Again, I did do some research on this as well, and it sounded like it was recommended, but it didn't seem like from the posts I read, that people did that? Or maybe they did, but just skipped posting that step of the process. Thanks!!

Based on my experience with WF and their ACA's just buy the stone and know you've got the best you can get. It just doesn't get any better.

^^absolutely stunning. Now i am getting more excited. :)

Another question....

This is the setting I am thinking about: Contemporary 6 prong solitaire: http://www.whiteflash.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/contemporary-tiffany-style-solitaire-engagement-ring-1416.htm

This is the wedding back I am thinking about as well: Elena http://www.whiteflash.com/wedding-bands/elena-diamond-wedding-band-1367.htm

Will I have the same issue that others have had with their shared prong, with the band eating at the e-ring prongs?

Thanks. BTW, the stone in the ring is also a VS2 with a dark crystal in almost exactly the same place as yours. That's how I know you won't see it. As for the wedding ring, I can't tell if the diamonds hang over the side or not. Ask WF, they'll tell you.

Pist pics when you get the ring!!!

Sorry, I have more questions... I also saw this diamond, and it's about $1k more.

It has a lot more inclusions plotted, but none on the table. Does that account for the increase in price, along with the better color grade?

How do you think this stone compares to 1.214 one I picked above?

I'm just trying to figure out how to compare one ACA from the next.

Thanks!

Just from personal experience, when we were looking there was no VS2 that we were happy with so we ended up going with a VS1 ACA. We had a bit of a mind clean thinng going :geek:

That would be a deal breaker for me if visible with the naked eye, and I own a SI2 diamond. I would not want to see a black inclusion from any angle and it is more likely to show in a solitare setting.

Paul Slegers of Crafted by Infinity has said that he feels it is one of the myths of our industry that inclusions under the table are easier to see and that his opinion is that often the inclusions around the edge that are easiest to see.

As has been commented on, it will probably be eye clean in an SI2, but you will never know until you see the diamond. You can probably ask the vendor before even having it sent, they should be able to tell you.

Wink

P.S. I started this hours ago, before the phone rang and rang and rang, and just now found it again as as I am closing things up, I hope it is still pertinent.

For me personally, I wouldn't want that black inclusion in the table area. That may just be me and considering I don't have the stone in front of me to see, it might not be a fair statement either. I just know that I'd rather have some other inclusions rather than that one. Ask WF to give you their assessment from looking at both stones. They are both very well cut stones so from there you have to decide about color and clarity.

When you get to my age ::) ...every stone is EYE CLEAN!...

If WF says its eye clean, it's eye clean. It gets a five star ranking. I would be comfortable with either one.
