Ok guys, I have narrowed my girlfriend's engagement ring down to two choices. Both different styles but both beautiful. I really can't decide between to the two... Which is where you come in please! What do we think, the first or the second one?
The idea of the first is nice, but the stones in that setting take a lot away from the main stone. A micropave shank solitaire will do so much more for the stone and probably save you some cash on the setting to put towards the stone. Just my 2 cents.
I like them both, but I prefer the 2nd one, its really pretty....on a side note, I will be doing a reset of my rings in a similar setting as the first one...lol...so I like that one too!
I agree with ame that I prefer the idea of a pave shank vs a halo. As I think halos are so popular, that if she doesn't ONLY want a halo, I go another route.
But the stones seem too large. They shrink the center stone. So the two I like the halo. But if it was which "style" I prefer the first.
I have my .91 ct set in a halo with diamonds on the shank and I love it endlessly....
I love that it gives great finger coverage, which might be important to your FF....
The halo seems too have too much metal. IOW, the melee seem to be overshadowed by the prongs. Are these 2 your only choices? Have you shopped elsewhere for halos?
It only matters what your fiancee thinks. These are 2 very different styles. I would just ask her. She has to wear it everyday for the rest of her life (or at least has the option to do so.)
For the price of either setting, I would prefer that you put that money into a bigger center stone, and just put it in simple solitaire. Again, I think you should ask your fiance.
It's difficult to say because the one is an actual picture of an item and the other is a more of an idealized picture/drawing. But the first ring looks like the side stones make the middle stone look smaller. I like the halo for that reason.
the halo is my fav...don't care for the large stones on the shank of the first one. Have you seen them in person? I like split shanks and delicate pave'd shanks.
Also more finger coverage with the halo. I assume she likes both styles. Does she have a preference or is this a surprise?
The first is a classic!!! I do agree that the larger sidestones make the center look smaller though.
I would consult your fiancee to be as the styles are very different.
Thank you everyone for your kind replies and for your thoughts. So yes, my girl has seen both rings - in fact we narrowed these to being the top 2 out of around 7. Although they are different styles, she says she likes both equally and that she appreciates the individual qualities of both rings, and that she wants to leave the final decision up to me and to surprise her! Such a decision!
