Now that’s a really cool idea!!! Do you think it would still look good in yellow gold?
Absolutely! I think the yellow gold would both set off the diamond as well as make the definition of the setting speak for itself too.

Hang on a bit and I’ll mock it up for you.

I think this idea is perfect! Didn't @Niel have a pendent in that (or similar style)? Sorry, can't remember but I'll go look for the thread!

Here you go @yennyfire. The first version is Dahlia in her standard configuration and the second is with slightly pronounced petals. I have no photoshop or photoshop skills, so it’s just me and my .99 cent coloring app

You are amazing @ILikeShiny! Thank you! I really love that with the more pronounced petals! I’ll probably reach out to Caysie and see what she thinks about this vs. Astrid vs. option #1 above! I truly appreciate your input and sketching skills!!

I have other settings to show you, but the Astrid would not be 20 mm with a 5.9mm stone. She's done a lot of big stones in that setting and those are the pictures I could find. But it wouldn't look like that with a smaller stone. I just prefer Astrid in yg, and I am planning white metal for my smaller pendant.
I don’t want 20mm. That’s what the platinum pendant measures and I want less than half that size, so maybe I’ll reach out to Caysie for her thoughts...safe travels wherever you’re headed!

Great! Glad you like it! It really is because of your good examples though; they seemed to lead in this direction. And I agree... the more pronounced petals was my favorite as well.

I can’t wait to see what you come up with!

This may be totally not your style, but with the right diamond and colors, what about something more clean and contemporary like these settings by Raintree (in vermont) would make a beautiful pendant.

Voted for 1 but I love the one diamond seeker put up even more!

The problem with the Dahlia head for a pendant is the pendant needs a large base at the back. That head is made for a ring, so the base is small. That means the pendant will often not sit flat against the chest. Designs like Astrid, for example, have a large, flat back which makes them sit flat. One of the reasons I am resetting my stone is that very reason. They did not understand when I asked for a larger open circle in the back of the pendant and it rolled all the time.

I have #1 and love it, so it gets my vote, but the Dahlia would make an awesome pendant too!

Thanks alene! I tried to find a thread/photos, but I don't see one? Would you mind sharing a neck photo as well as the size of your stone? :kiss2:

Well, here's an update. I texted with Caysie and she doesn't feel like the Dahlia will translate well with a 5.9mm stone. She does think that the Astrid would work. The other thing she threw out was the Spring Gulch, which made me think about doing a Bertie style halo in yellow gold with a super low profile so the pendant sits pretty flat against my chest.

Thoughts?? I'm feeling like I have too many good options and am starting to feel indecisive.

Here you go, Yennyfire! My stone is about 5.3 mm I believe.IMG_1781.JPGIMG_1751.JPG

Couldn't Caysie modify the back to make the base larger with a flat back? It would seem to me that she could but I'm no designer.

Ohh, it's gorgeous and looks to be the perfect size!! That's exactly the look (and size!) I'm going for. Thank you so much for sharing it!

She just said that it didn't lend itself to a stone my size and I didn't press her for an explanation, because I trust her and know that she knows what she's talking about!

She said the Spring Gulch, Astrid and Bertie would make excellent pendants, so now I have to decide between those and the cushion shape that @alene has. If I weren't planning to give it to my daughter, I'd do Bertie for sure (with very low gallery), but she may not want a pendant that matches Mom's ring, kwim? And, I've toyed with the idea of making Spring Gulch yellow gold earring jackets for my diamond studs, so it might be neat to have a matching set. Then, the cushion shape is totally classic and simple enough that it would be hard for anyone (ahem....DD in the future) not to like it. Sometimes choices are evil!!!

I love option 1, the one Alene has! It's simple but elegant and while it will look beautiful on you, it will also translate perfectly with your DD. I'm not personally a fan of the Astrid (just a bit much IMO) and while the spring gulch and Bertie are nice ideas, it will be a certain 'look' that you like but who knows if your DD will when you give it to her or over time.
