I'm in New York City with my husband who is recovering from surgery he had here. I am really close to 47th Street. Where should I go? I've been to Diamonds by Lauren. I was wondering about Israel Rose too. Should I go to Leon Mege? I am interested in several things, including a french cut band, an unheated blue sapphire, colored diamonds, and OEC diamond and/or ring. You gals know everything and I'm excited to hear your recommendations! :lickout:

How about ID jewelry too- I liked them as well.

If you are interested in finding a beautiful OEC I highly recommend Adam at Old World Diamonds. Just call though to make an appointment. Have fun!

Thanks Missy and ArtDecoLover 71!

One thing I don't understand is how OECs are priced. I've seen +- 3 carats for $25K and $50k. I can't seem to figure out why the range is so wide, outside of the clarity and color. How do you determine which cut is "good" and which is "great"?

Lots of factors/variables involved 're pricing. Cut, color, clarity and vendor's upgrade policy. And sometimes there is room for a bit of negotiation. With old cuts you must judge with your eyes. But a GIA grading report is helpful regarding pricing imo.

You will have to call and make appt, but call Chris at ERD, and Megan at DiamondIdeals
47th St is fun place to look, not buy unless you know in advance.
Have fun.

Missy.. I went to the Old World Diamonds website, thank you for pointing to the site.. many of their diamonds are EGL certified, and according to much that I have read here in Pricescope and on the web is that they are very to overly generous with color and clarity.. so when I searched the Old World website for stones I set my search paramters for higher color/clarity than I am really looking for. I am not interested in any stone over a J color (not that I don't like them but I am looking for a pendant stone)..I saw that Old Wold Diamonds also have GIA certified stones.. the prices of the EGL next to a GIA of the same rated clarity and color are close to the same.. do you think that EGL is equal and their price(s) should be comparable to a GIA rated stone. I'm finding that OEC are often more expensive than a comparable MRB at a J/K color with excellent cut ..... your opinion is appreciated if you read this, or anyone else if they have any thoughts on this.

Hi Kate, no EGL is definitely not comparable in price to GIA. I know Adam is more than happy to send any stone to GIA for certification and I think that's a good idea. It happened that I bought a GIA OEC from him but if it were an EGL stone I fell in love with I would have asked him to send it to GIA.

As far as OEC's being more expensive than MRB's I haven't found that but as I wrote before it depends on the color, the cut and the clarity of the diamond so all that needs to be taken into account. In general, an ideal cut MRB with the same parameters as an OEC will be more expensive.

Mikla I hope your dh is recovering well from his surgery!
