Visible feather inclusions on the edge of diamond, setting question - please help!

Hi! I was gifted an heirloom diamond by my mom. It is a 9 ct round and when she gifted it to me she mentioned that there is a visible feather on the edge and I should reset it to hide it. I love the diamond because of the sentimental value more than anything else but it is beautiful. Mom recently passed away and I am honoring her wish to reset it. I picked a beautiful Simon G bezel setting that will help hide inclusions by the girdle and also "protect" the diamond IMO. My question is when the diamond is set in the round bezel, is there a "best spot" to place whatever white feather inclusion on the edge of the diamond that is still visible? Like should it be at 3 o'clock vs 6' o'clock or it doesn't matter? I just wonder if any of the experts here think your eye goes to the top or side of a large diamond like this when it's set in a ring. I hope I'm making sense, lol It was set in a classic 6-prong tiffany-like setting and the feather was at 3 o'clock (or 9 o'clock if i wore it the other way). Thanks in advance!

This is the new setting but it will be customized to my round diamond.MR2020-Simon-G.-Jewelry-white-and-and-diamond-emerald-cut-mosaic-halo-engagement-ring-600x600.png

Not a bezel expert, but holy crap. NINE carats? I can't wait to see it!

I'm sorry for your loss :(2

I’m sorry for the loss of your mother. What a lovely gift from her! Bezelling seems like a good way to protect it. You could ask the jewellery setting it for you if there is an orientation that they would recommend to hide/minimise the feather.
I would love to see a picture or 12 if you felt so inclined - we don’t see nearly enough 9 carat-ers!

I definitely agree with the statement above, speak to your jeweler prior to setting and tell them what your expectations are so they understand that you want it hidden to the best of their ability. I didn't do that when I had a 1.25 carat set into a temp solitaire and I see the feather all the time. Also if the bezel doesn't completely hide the feather you can see if the double prongs can be lengthened and the feather hidden under one. Just an idea.

Hi! I finally received the ring back! It is gorgeous! The process was not a smooth one but I'm thrilled with the final product which I guess is most important:) I wanted to post a pic for those that wanted to see it. Thanks again for your input, I did as advised and asked them to do the best they could regarding orientation of the feather etc. I think mom would love it too...

Here's one I took next to my engagement ring which is a 2ct center:)

Wow, just wow  The pics are as satisfying as I had hoped they would be! Enjoy it in good health!

ok That’s my new favorite ring. The pink gold looks soooo pretty on you too. Omg :rolleyes2:

Yes, this needs to go on the iconic rings section

Ooh lala! It looks FANTASTIC! Love the rose gold and the split shank. And the bezel with four-prongs. And the NINE CARAT STONE!!!

I'm so sorry about your mom, but you will be reminded of her often looking at your hand.

May I ask the stone's stats? I got huge and feather, but can't tell the color, etc.

more pics too, please (I'm on a bling ban...)

Thank you! We are still going through her paperwork hoping to find a cert of some sort but still no luck. They measured the stone when they reset it, but other than that the gemologist that was helping me estimated color of I-J. I picked the bezel setting so that the feather which was by the girdle could be partially hidden and also protected. I also liked that the stone doesn't look even bigger when it's in a bezel although I know this is already a big stone. I just love rose gold and since my engagement ring is platinum I thought this would be a nice change.

You picked a perfect setting for this unbelievable stone! My jaw dropped, I was sure you meant .9 lol. This looks amazing. I love the setting you chose for it so much, the entire thing is incredible!

@poisonivy first, I want to say that I am so very sorry for your loss. My heart truly goes out to you. Nonetheless, I am sure that even though your mom is no longer here, she will always remain close to you in spirit.

She left you an amazing, amazing diamond and you reset it on the most perfect way possible. What a glorious way to always be reminded of your mother!

Oh wow  that has so much presence - it’s just gorgeous. Wear it with many happy memories of your mum (what was the rest of her jewellery box like if this is any indication?!)
