I actually have a question that couldn't be answered by doing a search here, crazy
I have a vintage (art deco I think) ring and I've noticed the prongs seem warmer-colored than the rest of the ring. I recently took the ring to an appraiser, but forgot to ask him about the prongs. From regular viewing distances and in most light, the prongs look the same color as the rest of the platinum, but when I look very, very closely, they look warmer. I clean the ring in hot water with a bit of ammonia and dish soap, using a soft brush, so I don't think the prongs are dirty or anything. Could it be that the warmer color of the stone "tricks" my eye into seeing the prongs as warm-colored as well?
stamp says "10% IRID PLAT"
center stone is OEC, .86ct, appraiser put the stone at K
melee are single cut, bead set
Also, the ring seems completely intact to me, it doesn't look like it's been dismantled and reassembled or anything - other than I think it's been resized/enlarged.
I would appreciate anyone's thoughts on this, thanks!
