Can someone tell me where I can go to get more information on vintage orchid pins and brooches? There are no marking on them and I believe back in the 20s, 30s, 40s, and 50s they were very cheap.

My mother had two. I’ve managed to buy 7.

I also found two that were used a buttons.

Thank you.

I think pins that size would have been considered “scatter pins,” meant to be worn in a loose grouping. They’re light enough to be worn on sweaters, and for some reason that’s how I’m picturing them. As to why an orchid - aside from their beauty - it could be because orchids were considered to be pretty exotic back then (I’m thinking 50’s through 60’s), and orchid corsages were sort of the height of “special” to mark special occasions.

I have come across a few in various sizes over the years.

A friend i spoke to said their mother always received orchid pins or pendants like this, but larger, from her father when he would return from trips to south america (?) or if they went together on a vacation.

It has been awhile and i can't remember the exact details but i believe they were handmade too and very popular at the time (i think the late 1950s)
