Hi everyone!

I am new to these boards so my apologies if this isn''t the appropriate board for this question...

I recently inherited of an emerald/diamond ring from (what I believe to be) the 1960''s, with a last Canadian appraisal dating back to 1974. The ring is round, with an emerald center and small diamonds surrounding it. The appraisal reads as follows (translated from French):

Ring, Platinum, with:

1 Emerald, 1.41
28 Diamonds, 0.04 each

The insurance value in 1974 was settled at 9,180$ CAD.

I am looking to sell this ring, and have not yet appraised it. What exactly am I looking at here? A vintage gem? Obviously, I am not familiar with the world of jewelery and thought perhaps someone on this site could tell me if I have something that is actually worth 9K and what options are out there for selling jewelery.

Thank you!

If you do a search on appraisals you should come up with alot more info here. In a nutshell, if you want to sell this ring you''ll need a recent appraisal and preferably from an independent appraiser who has experience with antique jewelry. After you have it appraised you can take it to local antique/estate jewelry shops and see if anyone will take it on consignment or buy it outright but if you are expecting a fair market price, you''ll probably have to sell it yourself...which can be difficult because you''d be asking people who dont know you, to trust you and buy something worth thousands of dollars. Some have luck on ebay, others dont. You''d probably do better with doing a trade in on something else...you''d likely get more value that way.
