Vintage bar pin with French cuts...any guesses on the stones?

Was visiting with my aunt yesterday and she showed me this older piece that my great-grandmother owned. She’s having me take it to my jeweler this week for an appraisal since he specializes in antique & vintage pieces.

It’s a bar pin with some cool engraving details and French cuts, but I’m not sure about the stones themselves. I’m leaning toward aquamarines. The clasp is stamped 14kt.

Any thoughts on what the stones could be? It’s kind of cloudy today, but in direct light they set off some beautiful sparkle.

Meant to include these photos since it shows the color changes depending on the angle (the main reason I’m leaning toward them being aquamarines).

I don't know what the stones are but this is AWESOME

You've given me a cool idea for tie pin should I ever manage to get some bling for myself! :D

Very well made & quite beautiful!

Yes, please turn it into a necklace complete with a matching 14k yellow gold chain OR go a little modern & daring & play up on the stones icy-ness with a 14k white gold chain!

Lovely piece ;))

God that is a beautiful pin :kiss2: Nothing useful to contribute but please make this into a bar pendant, wear the hell out of it and show us many more pictures!

This!!! I need MANY more pics!!! To me it's super wearable as is, but two small hooks make for an easily convertible piece!!!

Beautiful pin. But I also think that the Japanese sea pottery is interesting. We were in Japan and found a ton of it on the beach. The locals said it was from the tsumani that swept a town away and the debris floats upon its shores.

I love this!! I'd guess either aqua or synthetic spinel. Either way, so yummy!

Howdy all! Just a little update on this. I brought the pin to the same jeweler I brought my great-grandmother’s ring to.

The stones are indeed aquamarines! He says the pin is all handmade & hand-engraved, and in great shape. He believes it was made in the 1940s/50s.

We are having it appraised for my aunt and I’ll be picking up the paperwork tomorrow for her.

Beautiful, I love the way the colour shifts along its length. Spinel would have been my second guess (only because I saw some bluey-grey-pinky spinel on Etsy recently)

i hope your aunt gifts it to you

I believe her granddaughter will inherit this lovely piece when the time comes! My mom and her sisters each received a family heirloom piece from my great-grandmother. The piece that was given to my mom is mine now (the ring in my avatar), and my cousin’s daughter will get this one when she’s older.

In the meantime my aunt will hang on to it. And will insure it, since it appraised for $3700!
