Have never posted before, so please let me know if I posted this in the wrong place!

I had my heart set on a VC cushion diamond in a halo, but then I saw his video on his Facebook page posted on March 11th, of his 3 ct round brilliant cut solitaire (cathedral band solitaire with scalloped basket). The sparkle from that diamond is beautiful and now I am confused about which way to go. I would be purchasing a much smaller diamond (about 1.5 - 1.8). What I want to know is do his round brilliant H & A diamonds really sparkle like in his Facebook video, or is that just in special lighting? It also seems like the solitaires sparkle more than the diamonds set in halos to me. Could you tell me if you agree with this? thank you all for your advice!

Sorry, I just realized the title of my post is misleading, because people might think I am trying to sell a VC diamond. I see how to edit my post, but not my title.

If light return is what you are interested in, the best choice is a well cut round brilliant. Vintage cushions have more chunky facets and return light differently - both can be gorgeous

I recently went through the same dilemma and ended up with a round brilliant. Because I was buying in the sub 2 carat range, I felt the MRB cut was the better choice. If I went with 2.5 or greater, I probably would have chosen an old euro cut or cushion cut.

Depends what appeals to your eyes a fine faster scintillation pattern or a larger more broad scintillation pattern that is what you are seeing. And no a stone will not sparkle more in a solitaire versus one of his halos, I have both and the Victor halo is what I call a ring of bling, the whole thing sparkles.

I'd guess a round in something like a Victor halo, might be the best way to go for you if you like a lot of fire, but one of his cushions in a halo will sparkle a lot as well. I think your eye is just favouring the scintillation pattern of the round. And if that is the case maybe something like one of his Hearts and Arrows rounds in a cushion shaped halo would solve the problem.

Check out both SK and BE for halo work

Victor is the best pave ring maker, imo!

I think you need to send for one of each style diamond so you can see what you prefer in person. Everything should look great in the diamond videos. My preference are the well cut, antique style stones with larger facets. You don't necessarily lose light return, but as Arkie said, you may prefer one style cut over another.
