Hi All,

I'm considering getting one of the Marielle rings from Victor Barbone. It is an OMC with a 2.14 carat center diamond (M color and SI1 clarity) and 2 side OMCs that add up to .84 carats. It's $14,000. Would you say this is overpriced? I am a little hesitant because of the color/clarity, but overall I think it is beautiful. Thank you!

I hope others will respond. I’m also curious.

I am interested in one of their ring as well. It’s the one called Lanie.

Bump. Anyone?

Personally I would not purchase it at that price based on the pic. But. Have you seen it in person? Is the center stone super amazing? Can you replicate it exactly the save for less? Are you a fan of M colored stones?

Well here is an OEC for under 10k that has same color, weight, better clarity, and larger mm wise but it’s a solitaire. Yes, I do feel like it’s a bit over priced but most likely not by much when you factor in the side stones

Thank you! This is helpful!

Yes, I've seen it in person and love it. I'm not sure if I can replicate it for less since OMCs are a little harder to come by. I would prefer a higher color grade/clarity, but I am trying to stay under $14,000. The M is still beautiful. Thank you!

I tend to think the prices are overly high for what they are, but that's just me. I'm not a huge fan of the aesthetic overall, but of course if you've seen it in person and love it then it's different.

What do you think of this one? Is this one overprice? I’ve never seen it in person.

The two are as different as an old brilliants can get! IMHO, between these two stones the difference is of style / flavour, yours to choose. If set as a three stone, the VS will come closer in price, or you could live with the solitaire for a while.

The diamond is worth about 2k. If you think the setting is worth 3.75k, then it is a good deal.

Thanks! I’ve been obsessing on this lately.

Hi, can you please start a separate thread for the ring you're considering? I'd like to keep this focused on the one I'm looking at, and the two styles are very different. Thank you!

@OMCplease I’m assuming you purchased it? The listing says it’s sold.

I think it’s very pretty. Now that you have it, how are you feeling about it?

I love the ring you purchased, To me, the OMC is a typical OMC with a puffy crown and nice chunky faceting. It may be technically “leaky” under the table but I think the cut is prototypical of many OMCs and it looks authentic to me. With koizibe. I like it. Nicely cut authentic OMCs are actually more rare nowadays than OECs, and finding two well matched side stones in the same style is also rare. I think it might be a slightly more expensive than other old cut retailers for example, like Parks Fine Group. The setting looks like a well designed one along the lines of Old World Diamonds settings. Personally I think it’s a very pretty ring.

Yes, I currently have it. I can return it still.
I have found that it takes me a couple of weeks to realize if anything about a ring bothers me. So how do you feel about it? Do all 3 stones match so perfectly that you would not be able to recreate it for less money?

Yes I will. Sorry for the thread jack. I didn’t mean to do it.

@OMCplease actually I had posted a thread about my own question perhaps a day before I saw yours and I got no reply. So when I saw yours I helped you by bump your thread and yours got a few responses while mine is still nothing.

Maybe this vendor is so new that nobody knows them yet. New vendor who sells old vintage stuff. Imagine that.

Le sigh... just frustrated.

hand shots! That’s what we need!

What do you think of the color /clarity now you have it on your hand?
That is a huge part of determining if you feel you overpaid.
You can assume to pay 1k- 2.2k ballpark for that type of 18k crown setting. If you put the time and shipping/returns to source your own stones, you can for sure replicate it for the same or lower. All depends also on where you source, dealer or existing jewelry. And happenstance of finding the stone you desire for sale at the time you are looking. That might take awhile.
Or you can possibly ask VB to source you some other stones, but I doubt you’d get better stones for less than this is going for.
If you have fallen in love with this exact exact setting (as you probably will get a variant of it from elsewhere) and love the stones - you’ve paid a bit of a premium for a one and done purchase. There’s nothing wrong with being content with that.

Ahh, here are some pictures.
Good idea about trying to source on my own. Do you happen to have any recommendations on custom jewelers who can do the setting?

It looks gorgenus imho! Fantastic finger coverage too. I believe a PP had pointed out Old World Diamonds; that’s where I would check for alternate stones and/or the setting. It looks remarkably similar to one they have available currently - albeit with some differences on weight, color and pricing.

I think from the pictures it looks lovely on you. But I still can’t comment if you should be content with the price or not. Too many variables.

places like erstwhile and bell and bird have their own versions of designs like this. But like VB, I have no idea if they set outside stones. Plus various antique/antique replica Instagram sellers as well.

OWD’s setting version posed above was mine, until we parted ways. It’s gorgeous.
CVB has a lovely version.
mine is from DK. I have threads on the stone(s) selection and setting creation/journey if you are bored :lol-2:

i actually didn't think it was a thread jack based on the title of the thread. i thought it was a discussion of the vendor, which i'm curious about, vs. a specific ring. (end mini thread jack)

I’m not seeing any pictures. Would love to see finger shot too.

My thoughts exactly. That’s okay though.

You’re both right—the subject line wasn’t clear that I was referring to a specific ring. Sorry about that. Feel free to post away :)
