I find that site to be expensive, but they have very pretty things.
Look at Jewels by Grace, Old World Diamonds and Ivy and Rose for comparison shopping. Do you want an original setting or are you open to a stone and custom setting?
Not the same shape, but similar specs in clarity and carat weight- no comparison of mm size:
Another diamond which had me at hello! This antique cushion is a stunnah - she is large and really in charge. I adore her for many reason - first reason being she faces up MUCH whiter than her color grade. I was so sure she would come back a K color. Nevertheless, the stone is truly beautiful -...
If she is not the one of the prettiest diamonds to have ever landed on our laps of late, I dont know what is! Stunning slightly elongated shape, gorgeous faceting, and bright! But the part is that the stone is what we call in the trade a
How classically deco is this ring? I just love everything about this ring! Not only is the central antique cushion cut insanely BEAUTIFUL (and huge!), but its also a super bright and happy diamond, white-facing, and showcased stunningly well by the trio of slim baguette diamonds on the...
I tend to not be a big fan of VB pieces bc I find them overpriced for the stones/diamonds they have. I agree with @elizat that comparison shopping should help you put the price in context
Actually, it’s right in line with other vendors pricing, if you compare like on like i.e. compare with OECs (not OMCs or cushions that typically are less expensive per carat) and factor in the setting.

Old World has some outliers that are are less than what I would put the setting value at, plus Adam usually can offer a more competitive price if you talk to him. My thought was personally, I think it is high but with this budget, I would be contacting other vendors to see what they could offer and what they could do with pricing. That’s a good sized purchase. He also has stones not on the site, as do the others.
I only looked at Old World Diamond's OEC inventory and found none exactly matching the 3.49ct L-VVS2 OEC (GIA) in the VB Cleveland setting - the closest was a 3.35ct L-VS1 (GIA) listed at $32,562.00. Factor in the VB Platinum setting with 36 single-cuts .. I'm thinking the VB price is reasonable, certain within market range, and includes free shipping and one free re-size -- VB even has a 60-day layway plan which can be very useful (layaway item not returnable but is exchangeable) . Note the VB return period is 5 days only however.
Thanks for all the responses! Would anyone have any concerns as to the L color of this diamond? Do they truly look yellow? That’s probably our last hang up...
yellow? Probably not.
tinted? Probably yes. Especially from the side and in certain lightings.
I think it’s a very pretty ring.
If you have a concern (which it sounds as you do) I’d be wary. Though only if you’ve experienced old cuts in lower colors in person already. If you haven’t, they perform a bit differently than a modern cut in same color. You need to see in person to tell if you like, love, or dislike! If you have an inkling you will dislike, and still have doubts after seeing - trust that doubt.
if you pull the trigger - I hope you come back to share a ton of pictures!
@Rfisher nailed it. It will have body color. How much you can tolerate will be up to you. They do perform differently than a modern stone. It will appear warm or ivory, but depending on the tone of the stone in your atmosphere, you may see some yellow.
It depends on what your eyes like.
The return policy is short. I would ask for more time if you are considering it, so you can see it in various atmospheres, if you are concerned about body color.
I think it depends on how color sensitive you are and how you perceive old cuts. They do face up whiter than their stated grading! But you might see a little "warmth" depending on the lighting situation. In some lights they will look very white, and in some situations the OEC facets will pick up lovely flashes of light from your surroundings.
I have a ring from Victor Barbone. It would definitely have cost less to choose a diamond myself and have the setting made. And to be honest, I may have skipped over this stone altogether if I only saw it only paper (my husband bought it for me). But, wow, it is incredible in person. I suspect they choose stones based on how they look in real life much more than the numbers, which makes sense for old stones. With the stone in the ring you linked, for example - it is significantly shallower and has a larger table than I would personally look for. But is it gorgeous in person? I have no idea. That's something a report can't tell you. Which is why buying these online can be so hard!
As for colour, mine is also an L. It is not yellow, but it is warm for sure. Vanilla/cream, especially if I put it right next to my MB I. But it's a matter of personal taste. I would probably not want a MB L, but now I'm a big fan of the colour in OECs and OMCs.
Contact them to see what they can tell you about it, ask for more images or video, have it sent to you to see in person if you are very interested. The worst that can happen is that you dislike it and send it back.
