For those that know me here….I have been on the hunt for 2 year’s to find the perfect lab diamond for a ring project. It started back in 2019, when I ordered an Asscher through one of the sales that Tianyu had. It took about 8 month’s to receive the lab diamond because they had a hard time cutting one large enough to be at least 8mm. I had already designed a CAD around an Asscher this size. Once I received the stone in person, the window was much larger then I could see on the video and it had a rather muddy brown background color. The stats were 2.69/VS1 H. I am seeing some of this brown tint in other people’s stones that have chosen an H so if you order through one of the Chinese vendors, I would aim for a G or higher.
I ended up putting a cup in my design which helped close the window but the tint was driving me crazy. After about 2 month’s, I had to ask my jeweler to pull it out of the bezel and I went on the hunt for a new stone. I finally found a yellow sapphire to replace the lab diamond and the setting is
Although I sold the Tianyu Asscher, I still really wanted another diamond ring. My current e-ring has a hairline fracture in it from a shopping cart and although I still love the halo, the crack in there is driving me crazy. I decided to purchase one of the Lightbox 2 carat lab diamond’s to see if it would fit but it is exactly 8mm and my center stone is 8.3. The color was not a great match for the halo either although my mined diamond is an I/VS2, the lab diamond looks hazy in comparison to my halo. The Lightbox lab diamond looks clear in a lot of light but slightly hazy in LED light.
The Lightbox 2 carat is going back but a took a few pics to compare it to my latest lab diamond that I received yesterday. It is a 2.37 carat OEC G/VS1 from Debebian’s (8.5mm). I asked Sam a few month’s ago to find me an affordable lab diamond, even if it was in the lower color grades that was precision cut, over 2 carats and with no ugly brown tint. I don’t mind lower color grades but not the muddy brown tint that some CVD lab diamond have. I didn’t go for an IGI cert since they have a very good QC process.
He works with several different vendors in his business and he was able to get this one cut for me. It took about 3 weeks to get here and in a much higher color grade then I expected. I asked to see the stone loose because I didn’t want to set it without seeing it. The stone is so bright and white. I am no expert on precision cutting but have taken several pics under a viewer. My only request besides tint was fat petals and small culet.
I put it in a temporary ring holder to take videos in various lights:

I don’t think this stone is a great match for my round brilliant halo so I have to come up with another design. I also have a cluster halo coming hopefully next week with 12 OEC halo stones that are 3mm each.

I could do a new cluster halo similar to the inspiration or something like a cushion shaped halo. The last 2 rings I’ve done have been gemstone antique halo’s so I am looking for some idea’s for a halo that is antique but modern at the same time. I am sure it will be well into the New Year before I can get this project started. I might just have it done in time to hit the 3 year mark!
Thanks for reading!
