I found a diamond that fits my criteria however the vendor labels the diamond a very good cut.

I ran the HCA and it came up w/ .8 (ex/ex/ex/ex).

The price is discounted accordingly as the cut is not ideal.

Generally speaking, did I find a bargain or should I be vary of stones that are not labeled as an ideal cut regardless of what the HCA says.

Thanks

A diamond does not have to be Ideal cut to be beautiful. Also as you have found, a diamond can have a HCA 0.80 and still not be Ideal. It sounds like you have found a gem. If the vendor has a return policy, you might try to have it sent to you so you can give it your own eye-ball test.

Judging from the disclaimer at the top of the cut advisor page:

"The result is for a symmetrical diamond with a medium girdle and very good polish"

you might want to look for abnormalities on those areas...

The diamond is AGS Ideal 0, so the polish and symmetry are ideal.

That's one of the great things about the HCA. It helps you identify potentially beautiful stones that don't fall within the current "ideal" ranges. Today's ideal ranges are a group of individual specs on the various angles. The HCA considers the combinations of angles and how they work together. Thus a lower crown angle can offset a higher pavilion angle and vise versa to find an "ideal" combo that would not show up when looking at the specs by themselves. (If I didn't get it right Garry, chime in...but I think that's the layman's sysnopsis.) So, you might have found a great stone at a non-premium price! Lucky you, if that is the case!

You say this is AGS0 cut and 0.8 HCA - who said "very good cut" and what does the same source call "ideal"

There is no universal standard behind thes words...
