My friend had a lunch reception at Lawry''s The Prime Rib. The rib was of course excellent, but dinner is quite over budget

It''s not fun like BLT, but amazing food!

A friend of a friend had a reception at Bucca Di Peppo, but I didn''t like it at all. It was too loud and no privacy for my taste. If you are just looking for a big fun dinner, then it might be good. If you are going to do any dancing then it''s not going to work.
Sorry I''m not much help.

Spark, that sounds like something FI would like. Can''t go wrong with seafood when you''re talking to the two of us, however, guests aren''t quite so accommodating. I''ll look into Rosewood more...

Of course that helps Choro!

No dancing for us. I''m not particularly interested. As for Bucca, we have one here and FI is not really a fan, so that''s probably a no go. His big issues are, food has to be good, ambiance can''t be too formal, they have to have something *boring* like roast chicken that his nephew will eat (the kid lives off of chicken, I swear!), and they have to have a dish that he''d want to eat for "his first meal as a married man". Whatever that means.

I''m going to go check out Lawry''s right now!

Freke- I'm a pretty big fan of Maggiano's. It's actually in Fashion Show Mall on the 3rd floor, but has a wall of windows that looks out over the strip.
Whats the ambiance like?
It's a laid back feeling with an upscale (semi-laid back) atmosphere. You can be very dressy, or you can feel comfortable in church clothes (sun dress/ slacks and button up) We used to go there for Christmas Eve dinner when my sister and BIL lived out there.

Here's the website: http://www.maggianos.com/ Another website said that they have 3 private rooms.
Also, I have eaten at SW Steakhouse at Wynn. It will more than likely be out of your price range. I think ours averaged about $50 a plate. (That is including a bottle or two of wine for a table of 6)

The price range is for just the entree, I'm imagining that my dad will want to have a "open bar" (he likes his gin and tonic not to mention his red wine) so there isn't really a price limit there. And we figured dessert and appetizers are fair game. We were actually aiming for under $75 with drinks, dessert and appetizers. So I think it should still be in there. I figured that if we kept it around $40 for the entree, we could definitely keep it under $75 per person.

And if the guest list goes way down, we might just have to have it somewhere else.

ETA: Maggianos looks cool. We hadn't even seen it since it's over on the other side of the Fashion Show Mall where we haven't really been over there. I'll have to look at the menu...

Freke~ the atmosphere at Stack is pretty cool. Im sure there are good pics of it online, but it's lowly lit with huge "stacked" wood walls and it's really great. There are some spots in the back that would be great for a larger group.
One of my Fav things here is the hot rock where you cook the beef. So fun! Also the bone in Filet!! Can't go wrong there...

The Foundation Room was my next suggestion. Killer views of the strip and really great food. And you wouldn't have to go anywhere! (I couldn't find it on the site when I was looking for you, so I didn't post it. I can't imagine it's gone though. It's the hot spot on Monday nights.)

Lawry's is good, but off the strip and not what I would think you are looking for.
Top of the World... Good food, very touristy
N9ne is one of my fav spots for drinks. The food is good there as well, but it's kinda loud in there. Certainly not an intimate place where your guests would be able to easily chat it up. More of a celeb spotting place.

Yeah I think that Stack is one of my top choices at the moment...It's mostly up to FI though, so we'll see.

Turns out the Foundation Room is on the website for House of Blues, not on Mandalay Bay's. Weird. It looks pretty cool though.

Hmmm...I'm probably not looking for touristy so that would discount Top of the World, although it looks awesome, same thing with the restaurant in the Eiffel Tower.

I really do want to stay on the strip, so that would probably mean that Lawry's is probably out.

N9NE probably won't work if it's really loud. It sounds like a cool place to send people if they want to have drinks afterward though.

Keep the suggestions coming!!! I'm learning about restaurants I never knew about or hadn't considered before.

Freke, when you mention keywords like casual, fun, steakhouse, no dancing, on the strip, and under $40 entree, the patio overlooking the Bellagio fountains at ''Mon Ami Gabi'' at Paris comes to mind. (And they serve TWO types of chicken for your nephew too!) I''m not sure if it would fit the bill of what you''re envisioning (private reception feel vs. part of the Vegas experience), but as it might be along the lines of what you''re looking for, I figured I''d give it a shout-out.

Stack is modern, trendy, but relaxed. The service was really good when me and BF went. They have this beautiful mahogany on the walls. They told me the story about it. It went on the endangered list shortly after they used it (I think they had to use something different for Fix because of that), so it is a rare wood now and something you don''t see everyday. I think they could put you and your party in the back, and you would get some privacy, but I don''t think they have a room. There were a lot of empty seats when I went, so I am wondering if you could work out a menu for the whole group at a slight discount.

f-d-l--I''ll have to check them out. I hadn''t heard of that restaurant, so thanks for bringing it to my attention!

Ltl--I really need to think about Stack hard. The one problem with it that I can see is that the Mirage is pretty far from MB. Same goes for Wynn, Venetian and others. Eh....

Anywhere else?

Sure, Freke, my pleasure. The decor is more french bistro than Stack's contemporary trendy, but it did seem to hit many of the traits you mentioned. (It happens to be one of my fiance's must-go places while in LV, but then again, his 30-something palate sounds remarkably similar to your teenaged nephew's.

Yeah, Mandalay is pretty far down the strip. Fortunately, it's a pretty nice destination once you're there, and taxis are easy to get. BTW, has anyone mentioned the bar/restaurant atop the "TheHotel" tower at Mandalay? If you haven't been, check it out. It's one of my favorite places to go for a drink, the views from the 64th floor are incredible, and the environs are very sleek&sexy. The menu is a bit more swank than it seemed like you wanted, but as long as you're collecting rec's, I figured I'd toss it out-- you might enjoy going on a different night while in Vegas or after dinner. There are two parts to it on the top floor: Mix, a stunning white, crystal, and contemporary restaurant helmed by the chef Alain Ducasse, and MixLounge, the club with great drinks and admittedly pricey apps. I've seen post-wedding receptions happening at both.

Mix Lounge: http://www.mandalaybay.com/dining/mixlounge.aspx
Mix (restaurant): http://www.mandalaybay.com/thehotel/mix.aspx

(Oh, and BTW, the lounge DEFINITELY is a place to which you should wear your most outrageously sexy shoes; the low seating, tiny tables, and dramatic lighting really highlight both the stems AND what you've got going on all the way down to your toes.

You know F-D-L, Mix was my first choice--it''s in MB, it''s got an awesome atmosphere, beautiful decor, great chef''s name on the door, and a fantastic view. Problem is that it''s too expensive. Meh. I am going to look into it further. Because I think it''s awesome.

I have only been to Vegas twice. My knowledge is kind of limited. My BF was complaining about the prices, so I went though the restaurant guide and found the places with fewer cost stars.

Can''t wait to see where you end up picking.

we were there for Christmas (the venetian). steer away from Boucheron - tedious and up their own bums (a good aussie expression there!). also didnt think much of delmonico''s for the price. loved the buffet in caesar''s which is in the open forum area. great value for money and better food that delmonico''s, which we found purist and dull.

will love hearing about this as it progresses! :D

The Peppermill is GREAT for late-night. Their breakfast is amazing and HUGE. My FI got the pancake the first time we went there and it filled up the plate! (dinner plate). Go for sure if you can!
