VC pave eternity band with 'space' left for sizing purposes?

Hi everyone...

I am having Victor Canera make a pave eternity band to match the Emilya reset that he is currently doing for me.

I have had the hardest time determining a size for my rings. My original engagement ring was a 5.25 (thin twisted double shank, which I wore without a band). It was just right until after I had my daughter. Although I returned to the same weight / body composition my finger size decreased, curiously. Last winter I actually stopped wearing my e-ring for a couple of months because it was so loose that it would spin like crazy and I was worried about losing / damaging it.

I think that my winter ring size is probably a 4.75 or 5, however now that we're into summer, my fingers are larger again - about a 5.25, even a 5.5 some days. If I'm having a 'water retention day' I cannot even get a 5 over my knuckle.

I am getting my rings made in 5 1/8, thinking that this is a good compromise. However, I'm still worried.

My Emilya will be sizeable. I would rather err on the side of too small rather than too large, as Victor indicated that it's safer to size pave up rather than down.

A full eternity band, however, would not really be sizeable (of course). Victor has suggested, given my situation, that he make the eternity band with a small (2-3 mm) 'gap' which could be used for sizing purposes, if need be. I would simply keep the 'gap' at the underside of my finger, and he said that it would not be very noticeable.

I'm wondering if anyone has had an eternity made with such a gap? If so, how did it turn out and how do you like it?

I am also curious to know if anyone has any feedback as to whether this sounds like a good solution, or a bad idea for whatever reason.

Thank you!

Re: VC pave eternity band with 'space' left for sizing purpo

I have seen these before though I don't own one. My e-ring and wb are half-eternity and I'm perfectly happy with that, so I think a 2-3 mm sizing bar would be perfectly fine. I rarely if ever look at the underside of my hand so I care about having sparklies on the front, not so much on the back, and I also haven't experienced problems with spinning unless I'm doing the sort of activity where I shouldn't be wearing rings anyway. I think it sounds like a good solution, though have you thought of having them sized to like a 5.25 and having sizing balls put in to make them about a 4.75? If it is your knuckle that is the limiting factor with respect to size largeness, you will probably still be able to get it on over your knuckle with the sizing balls but it will be a tighter fit where you wear it than without them. I seem to recall sizing balls having been mentioned in one of your previous threads though and maybe you or Victor rejected the idea. In general I think Victor probably knows best though.

Hi distracts!

Thanks for your feedback. My knuckle isn't a huge limiting factor - it's more so water retention that makes my finger size vary so much. I did ask Victor about sizing beads and he actually said that he had never used them. I interpreted that to mean that he is not a huge proponent of them, however I'm sure that if asked he would put them in - he is so accommodating!

My ering has exactly one melee space for resizing in the future. It looks almost like a full eternity and matched with my full eternity wedding band .. I think it is a great alternative.

I agree and would definitely leave a space for future sizing, although with pave I think that sizing balls would be a better option. =)

I'm more inclined to go sizing balls as well - get the median ring size you'd normally wear, then add a size ball or two. They can easily be removed with less trauma to the pave later on.

Charmy do you happen to have a photo showing the one melee space on your ring? I'm curious to see...
