Hello everyone! :D I'm fairly new to PriceScope and have been lurking, reading, and learning a lot about diamonds and rings! I'm so excited for this part of my life as I just recently (April 14, 2018) gotten engaged to the love of my life. He proposed with a Victor Canera Emilya in Canera European Round. I am incredibly happy, but atlas, I am a bit confused on sizing and the wedding band process.

When we started engagement ring shopping back in Nov 2017, my ring size was 5 (at least thats what the salesperson at Tiffanys told me). However, when Fiance proposed, we realized it was too big. We recently sent the ring down to resize to 4.5 and I'm still feeling that it is still a bit loose. Fiance had propose that we change it to 4.5 first because if we go down one size, Victor would need to reshank it. My weight has been fluctuating so I guess sizing down to 4.5 is a good idea. Here's the thing, my finger is tapered and I feel like the ring twirls, is that normal? When I wash my hands, I feel like the ring is about to come off and that terrifies me! Secondly, I'm also left handed (yet my finger size is smaller on my left than right - is that weird?) and have been thinking about wearing it on my right hand since it fits better.

Here's the second part - my Emilya has pave donuts. Fiance and I both love the pave on the donut but really, at that time, I didn't think about matching the wedding band to the e-ring. Now I'm at a point where I should be thinking about it and am kind of confused and lost. Do I need a custom notched spacer or can I get a straight platinum spacer from someone other than VC? If I don't wear the e-ring and wedding band together often, do I even need a spacer? Some of my concerns are that my hands are tiny and pudgy and I feel like I don't have enough finger space for e-ring, spacer, and wedding band. Another thought is to order a notched wedding band but what if I want to wear it by itself, wouldn't that look funny? I think that would bother me...

Would you reshank the e-ring, buy the matching wedding band with VC or consider just wearing the wedding band (any type, doesnt have to be VC) on left and moving the e-ring to right hand so I wouldn't even need to resize? When people get married, do they wear the wedding band on left and e-ring on right? What about people that are left handed? I'm not really a big jewelry person so I'm still trying to figure out what's more comfortable for me. By the way, if I were to send it to VC for reshank, is it possible to take out the pave donut?

Thank you so much for reading and I look forward to your responses and ideas!

Kindly, Kuri

what a gorgeous ring, congrats!

as far as sizing, what about just putting in some sizing beads? Itwill accomodate for swelling and such but will help keep the ring snug on your finger. it MAY help some with spinning too.

I think you have plenty of finger space for a thin spacer and a thin pave band. Do you not want a gap between e-ring and wedding band? If you don't mind a gap, you could do just a plain, straight band or a very thin straight spacer with a straight pave wedding band. that way you can easily wear your pave wedding band by itself.

Congratulations!!! What a beautiful ring! And if those are your kitties in your avatar they are gorgeous!

I agree with farrahlyn...consider sizing beads instead of messing with the band at this point. Are their kids in the future?
Your ring size could also change again. Normally (but we say do what you want), in the US we wear our engagement ring
and wedding band on the left ring finger no matter if you are left or right handed. I think your fingers can accommodate a
small (.8ish) spacer band without a problem. Look around on etsy...a lot of PSers get theirs off of etsy.

I would not reshank at this time. I would wait until things calmed down and I was the same size for a while.

If I was going to stay with matching band I would probably want a VC but if you want to go with something slightly different
you could choose someone else. Remember you usually where your wedding band closest to the bottom of your finger then
spacer then engagement ring. This will usually push the engagement ring up onto a fatter portion of your finger so you want
to take that into consideration. Thats partially why I think you should wait until you've gotten your wedding band and your
finger size has settled down.

I dont know if they could get rid of the pave on the donut. Good question...

Twirling is common for people with hands that expand and shrink easily with change in temperature. That’s me. I need a 4.5 to get past my knuckle but at the place where my ring sits I’m closer to under 4.25. If it feels like falling off, that’s a problem. It it spins then not so much and sizing bead should do the trick.

I would get a matching band from VC. I did. I notched mine because I am OCD. I got a plain band so I could use it as a spacer. It is matching in width and height to shank of ering to ensure it looks symmetrical. I would recommend plain notched band for you sinvebyou have diamonds in your donut.

Thank you so much! I'll definitely look into the sizing beads. Where can I find these and would they work for a 1.9mm shank?

As for the gap, I don't think I mind it at all. Does the spacer have to be platinum or whatever the e-ring's metal is or does it not matter?

Thank you so much! The kitties don't belong to me but I am a cat lover and hope to cat owner one day. I think you are right about not reshanking at this time. Thanks for educating me on how the wedding set is worn. That's good to know because I live in the US (California) but I'm Asian and from what I know, Asian cultures tend to wear their rings on the right. Also, so wonderful for you to let me know about the wedding set and how the engagement ring may fit differently since it''ll be pushed higher. GREAT INFO!! I am so thankful! :)

Thanks for the info! Just to clarify and visualize it in my head, since I have diamonds in the donut, you would recommend a plain notched band AKA spacer and then a matching pave straight band (wedding band)? The spacer and the wedding band would all be the same width/height to shank of ering (1.90mm)?

If you want a matching pave band in addition to the plain notched platinum band that is cool. I will take a pic of my set a little later.

WHen you are asking Victor to match it to he height and width of your ering shank he will just make it right. No further thinking necessary. He does this all the time. The notched band here is actually made for another setting I had. However it works great with my current setting which he also made. He also made the eternity band, which has single cut melee. I would recommend that since you have CER if I am not mistaken.

This is the original ring for which the notched band was made. How the notched band is designed there is no gap. (My current set has a gap because the notched band is not custom fit to my new ering. I like the gap now.). You can see the band width and height matches that of the ering. I prefer that look to varying widths. Of course you would make your band anyway you like. I had mine with squared edges and no millgrain. I felt that matched the more classic looknof my ering. I added the millgrain later to match my current ering. How will you want yours? Rounded? He may ask you to send back your ering to make it match exactly. I’m not sure. You should call or email him. As to how you should wear your rings at entirely up to you. I often wear my ering by itself on my left hand. I was stacking on my right today. I don’t think there are any rules. Do what you like.

Thank you @LLJsmom for the pics and info. :) It makes complete sense to me now! I haven't decided on the wedding band just yet. I originally thought I'd be kind of a 'mismatch' type of gal and have been eyeing french cuts bands but my fiance is more traditional and he prefers a matching set (single cut pave u cut band). I feel like it will be more cohesive if I went with Victor for the wedding band but I'm also super in love with Caysie Van Bebber's designs. I am loving these 5 stone / 7 stone shared prong bands that people have on PriceScope, I'm just not certain if that will go well with my e-ring. I'm trying to achieve a vintage vibe but yet those 5 stone / 7 stone bands are gorgeous!!! It may be better as a RHR, my fiance isn't completely sold on 7 stone bands as a wedding band because he feels it may overwhelm the e-ring and as a set, it'll lose the "dainty" vibes. So many decisions and choices, I think I must go to a local jeweler to try things out first. I don't even know if I'm a matchy person or a mismatch person! All my life, I've always been an organized, a bit OCD type of person so I'm kinda shocked to see that I prefer something a little different. I think I"m longing for a wedding set that looks good together, wedding band doesn't blend in with the e-ring and both wedding band / e-ring can stand on its own. Hope I'm making sense cause by now, I'm just rambling :rodent:

By the way, I really love your notched band! I really like the sharp edge and it's so shiny!!! This is what I kind of mean when it doesn't "blend" with the e-ring. It's different yet I think when you wear it, it looks complete to me. I really liked the fact that you were particular about making sure the height and width matched the e-ring, I can see why you went with Victor, he is just a perfectionist and so talented at what he does. Absolutely gorgeous, thanks for sharing!

Lastly, I will most definitely start a thread on SMTB once I take some more photos of the ring. Thank you so much :)
