Vatche u113 vs BGD Tiffany knife edge

Hello,
I'm interested in anyone's opinion on the differences between these two settings. I found a few threads but I'm not so much concerned of which is more of a Tiffany's look a like. If I decide against pave I would go with either of these two settings, wondering which one is more elegant/higher quality as I won't be able to view either in person. Maybe some info on which is thicker or just am overall impression. It would be nice to save some money with the bgd if its not sacrificing anything. Thanks!

I will tell you that most of the regulars here that wanted the Tiffany repro setting over the last 2 years chose the Vatche U-113. I am one of them!

Off the top of my head, others who got it were sna77, Bliss, blueiris, OwiesNana, Mico, and a few others. All of those have stones larger than mine and chose the Vatche. I think it is very well made!

One note, several of us requested a harder platinum alloy than the standard and we were not charged extra. Some of us got 90%platinum/10%iridium and I think one person got 95%platinum/5%ruthenium.

I'm going to vote Vatche U113. It's one of my favorite solitaire settings!

Do these different alloy proportions prevent that grey patina?

Because they are harder than the standard 95plat/5iridium, they do not scratch as easily and will remain shiny longer. Of course, a lot has to do with how a person cares for their rings. I take mine off when cooking, unloading the dishwasher, etc. in order not to give them extra wear and tear. I expect I may have mine polished perhaps every 5 years or so. I think the really gray rings are the softer alloy or else the person never takes them in for polishing! My mother's rings were always gray because she never had them polished. I used to think I hated platinum because of hers! BUT now that I know more about platinum, I wouldn't choose anything else!

I can't figure out how to PM you and didn't want to start a new topic. But, have you or anyone you know have seen Leon mege 6 prong tulip without pave as well as the vatche u113 in person. I can't for the life of me find clear pictures of the two. I'd like to know which is preferred and the reasons. I'd like whichever is more impressive. Im really drawn to leon because hes an artist,its handmade and the prongs look pretty cool but all the pics I've seen the diamond looks really squatty (bigger diamonds or set really low??) Thanks!

I have not seen the Leon setting you mention. But my setting before the Vatche was the Leon classic solitaire basket setting. The diamond was just set too low! I didn't want my diamond set high because it can get hit on things more easily. But it just needed to be higher than extra low! As far as I am concerned, the Vatche setting is made just as well and the finished product is more perfect. And it is the right height as they normally make it. BUT, I really wanted a Tiffany repro setting because I wear a Tiffany Legacy wedding band. If you want a custom setting that is not the style of the Vatche, I'd recommend Victor Canera or Steven Kirsch because I think they do better on the height of stones to make the overall ring look well proportioned.

That is great! I hope you will love it! I think one of the best things about the ring aside from really showcasing the diamond is that it works SO well with a variety of wedding bands! I really recommend trying on Tiffany bands just to get an idea of what you like best, even if you don't plan to get a Tiffany brand one. I thought several worked great with my ring!
