Sna, just saw your post on updates from valentines day proposals. Well, propsosing yesterday was my original intention, but everything took a bit longer than expected, I wanted to get it perfect, so although I didn't make my Valentine's Day deadline, my proposal is soon underway, final pictures of our ring were sent to me yesterday, and the ring is on it's way!!

I finally decided on the 2.26, F, SI1, AGS 000 stone which you so kindly pointed out to me and saw in Boston!!! It looked like a beautiful stone, and it fix nicely into our budget of around 30K. My girlfriend prefers a 4 prong platinum setting, so I ended up chosing the Legato Sleekline setting by Whiteflash, as recommended by diamondseeker and a few others on the board!

Here are ring pics everyone - will post actual pics after the proposal! Does the ring look to be set too high though? I asked for the ring to be set at a medium height, dainty prongs, and with a 90/10 platinum ratio, and they were kind enough to do this for us. Overall, I think the ring looks timeless and classic, dainty and feminine, which exactly what she is looking for!

Well, here are pics! : )

Oh wow, that is absolutely gorgeous!!!   I think that is terrific that the stone sna saw worked out for you! This site is just great!!! The Legato sleekline is a beautiful setting and the diamond is set at the perfect height for that design! She may have been a little disappointed with no proposal for Valentines, but I think that is all going to be irrelevant when she sees what a beautiful ring you have bought for her!!! Great job! :appl:

Wow!!!

Thanks! Diamondseeker, I took your advice and had it set to a medium height and the 90/10 platinum ratio which you recommended, and yes, had sna not reocmmended the stone, I probably would have missed it, and would still be searching!!! Thanks to everyone for their help and advice, this board has been such a great help in making this dream a reality for me! :appl: :appl: :appl:

Gorgeous! I think it is set at the perfect height! Please come back with handshots

Gorgeous!

Stunning! I'm sure that ring is worth the wait!!!!

Oh, yay, it turned out beautifully! I think it's set at the perfect height. Be sure to come back with proposal story/hand photos!

:appl:

Looks incredible! And I think the height is perfect. The shots of it on her finger will be when you can really tell how the height is--can't wait!

So happy that stone was able to find a good home!!

That is a KILLER stone. As Psoens noted, I saw this stone in person in Boston and brought an Ideal Scope with me for the viewing. It's perfect--a best case scenario for an SI1!

Here were the pics of the stone itself WF took--just an amazing diamond! Here's the 40x and Ideal Scope:

Yup sna, I remember seeing those in your post. The stone you picked is absolutely beautiful too. Whiteflash just takes amazing pictures. All their diamonds look like they GLOW!!!! I can look at the pictures all day. Soooo yummy!!!

Its beautiful and I think the height is perfect!

Thanks everyone, I really learned so much from this forum, HCA, idealscope, aset, etc, etc, the list goes on and on!

And I'm glad that the height seems ok, my girlfriend lost her 2 carat diamond stud earring in the park a few months back, so well, to put in mildly, she can be a tad careless... :twirl:

Insurance...don't give her the ring without it! ;))

Hmm, well, ring has been set, been purchased, and it's on it's way to me very very soon!!! Just scanning and reading some stories from other pricescope members, seen that some people did a pre purchase appraisal and had the diamond sent to an independent appraiser before they purchased... uh oh, I was planning to get ring appraised as soon as I got it, for insurance purposes and all that, but should I also have gotten it appraised before purchase, just to make sure that the price was on mark?! Need to know the procedure in case she ever wants to upgrade in the future, and we can through all this again! :errrr:

in this case--no need for prepurchase appraisal.

whiteflash took more pictures than an appraiser would have. Also, you have an inspection period to return the stone.

So... get it appraised ASAP. actually insure it first--Your insurance company will add it to your policy with the sales receipt until you have the final appraisal. You want that to be covered the second you pick it up from the FedEx station.

thanks, sna! What are the cases in which it is a good idea to get a prepurchase appraisal?

well... certainly a pre-purchase appraisal doesnt hurt for additional piece of mind--ive had one done once and not other times.

with a stone as straightforward as what you bought, with access to competitive prices of diamonds on the PS database, and with the array of photos etc that you get from the PS vendors, and the AGS 000 certificate, there isnt much to chance with that stone.

if you were buying from a b&m store that did not have the tools of available to you here, then it certainly would be worth doing. by the time I was getting ady to purchase my 2nd stone, i felt comfortable enough with my knowledge that i was confident in choosing one based on data and pictures--as long as i had an inspection period to return the stone. Another situation for a prepurchase appraisal would be buying used stone etc...

btw--all set on the insurance front? i feel your pain with the gf that loses stuff--my wife loses things and breaks them. :)

Yes, insurance all set! Lol, I feel ya, wasn't one of our best days when that diamond incident occurred. Was just this past summer, and she was sunbathing in the park. Well, for some bizarre reason, she took her earring off to see it glisten in the sun, and lo and behold, a gust of wind blew it out of her hands and into the grass somewhere. She couldn't find it and started to panic, called me, and we both got on our hands and knees and dug through the tall blades of grass and dirt trying to find it. We must have created quite a sight, some onlookers suggested getting a metal detector to maybe try and find the diamond... went to the store, got that, and I searched with it for a few hours with no luck... why me, you ask? Because girlfriend had cried herself into a state and fell asleep on the grass! Women, go figure!

It is gorgeous!

oyyy... What a nightmare!

My friend's wife lost her engagement ring in the ocean--and miraculously found it. Still amazed to this day. I thought rings lost at the beach were instantly gone

You really don't even need an appraisal when the diamond is ideal cut and bought from a reputable vendor. Because you're likely going to end up with a valuation that is higher than what you paid, and I am not fond of overpaying insurance premiums. I almost always use the sales receipt and the diamond certificate for the initial insurance. Having someone verify that the diamond is the same as the one on the lab report is about all you really "need".

When buying second hand or an antique ring, then you definitely need an appraisal. Buying uncertified stones absolutely requires an independent appraisal. And finally, every few years you at least need an update to be sure your insurance is really covering you for the true replacement value.

That is the kind of ring that I thought existed only over the rainbow. Wow...just wow... :appl: :appl: :appl: Come back with handshots!

wow,looks so perfect.

So pretty! Gorgeous stone and the setting is perfect.

I love it!! It's very sexy, clean, and classic! I can't wait to see handshots!

What a horrible story about her earring! ;( It's amazing how these little suckers can disappear right in front of you! I had a diamond fall out of a ring one time, but I didn't know where, just looked down at an empty setting one day! :nono: Then a week later I was scrubbing out the shower and I found the diamond setting on the very edge of the drain! :o I had just sent my ring out for the replacement stone 2 days prior, so I ended up setting the lost stone with a pearl that my Dad once found inside an oyster. So, yes to insurance! And it sounds like you've got that covered, so on to the proposal and HANDSHOTS!!!! :lickout:

Gorgeous ring!

A beautiful and classy ring! Can't wait for the hand shots.
