I love this forum ... you''ve made me much more comfortable with selecting the "perfect" engagement diamond!

Although I would lean toward a round diamond because for me it seems easier to judge the quality; however, I am keeping in mind what my girlfriend has professed -- "the Princess cut looks better on my finger." Of course, my goal is to have her enjoy the ring as much as possible. Also, I have to fight my "practicality anilness" -- it''s a loving gift to her!

Just when I started feeling much better about Cut, and how it is an extremely important factor, I believe Princess (maybe Asshere?) cuts are far more complicated to understand. Few quick questions:

1. What are the cut dimensions that one would recommend for either a princess or Asshere (sp?) cut?
2. Can the ideal scope help me to more easily tell cut quality for princess/asshere cuts, the same as for a round stone?

Thank you again!

If she specified a princess, don't buy a square emerald (commonly marketed as an asscher). They have very different looks.

1) Check out the AGA cut charts for a princess, but be warned that the numbers will not guarantee a great look as well as number for a RB. http://www.gemappraisers.com/

Thank you, Hest88 ... I feel foolish for not seeing that link in the Ideal Scope page, already. And you are right, if she specified Princess, I shouldn' consider the Emerald cut.
