My diamond finally arrived in Japan (where I live), but my fiance promptly sent the diamond off to Tokyo to be evaluated before I got home from work, so I haven''t seen it yet! We bought a 2.4 carat princess cut diamond from USA Certed Diamonds (princess cut diamonds are not popular in Japan, as everyone here seems to prefer round brilliant, so we couldn''t find one that met our specifications in Japan). Martin at USA Certed Diamonds was great - completely professional, easy to contact (even with a 12 hour time difference and an ocean in the way), and very helpful and friendly. I was really anxious about ordering a diamond on the internet, and I admit my fears weren''t entirely allayed until we got the independent evaluation done (which matched the GIA one that came with the diamond), but now that I have confirmation, I am happy to tell everyone that buying your diamond on the internet, even from overseas, doesn''t have to be a nightmare if you get it from Martin.

Also, in case anyone else is buying from Japan: I was worried about customs duties etc, but we only had to pay a fee to the courier (takyubin) when the diamond arrived. It cost about 3 man yen. Customs rang us once when the diamond arrived in Japan to ask how a small package could be worth so much, but other than that, there was nothing to worry about.

Now on to the good part - the jeweler has told me he will make a sample of the ring in silver so I can see if I like it, and then he will make it in platinum (yellow gold makes my skin look green). The diamond is quite big (according to my fiance anyway!) so I want a simple setting. Does anyone have any pictures of a simple setting with a princess cut diamond? I''m not good at drawing, so I''d rather have a picture to show the jeweler - goodness knows what might happen if I make a mistake when I try to explain it to the guy in Japanese!!
