Friends -

Dec 31st midnight is going to be my big day of asking my girl friend to marry me!!! I''ve not selected my ring so far.

I''m confused between
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/G-VVS2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1253652.asp

and

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/H-VS1-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1213129.asp

can you please advise me as early as possible....More advise the better as I get only once chance!!!

Thanks
Sateesh

Both are great looking diamonds.

I like the G color but the clarity is overkill (to me). Costs money you can't see, KWIM? But I would buy a G over and H if I had to pick.

ETA The H is listed as not available. Do you have it on hold or did you buy it?

Thank you for your reply. I actually looked up the diamond that you''d suggested but cutadviser (in pricescope) says that it is 4 Very goods as opposed to 3 excellents for the original 2 diamonds that i was considering.

So you are suggesting that if i can afford then I should go for the first one?

The last JA that dreamer suggested may be a great find - you need IS to confirm.

Once you have the IS image, though, you can forget about the HCA score either way - HCA estimates performance based on the rounded numbers on the GIA cert, the IS is an actual image of performance, so if you have a stone with a great IS that scores 2.5 with VGs and Goods you still know that you have a killer stone - better, in fact, for a ring than a stone that scores say 0.4 with EXs across the board.

Don't use the HCA as a lifeline - it's a great tool, but it's just one of many

ETA: Perhaps someone with more experience will chime in here, I don't like the hearts image on the H, esp. at 2 o'clock> and the image itself doesn't look terribly tilted..

Thank you for your comments.
I actually did not follow the last part of your comment (P.s section).
Are you said that the diamond is tilted or it is not tilted?
Also what is it about the hearts that I should avoid when I search for diamonds?
(You mentioned about heart image at 2 O''clock)

Thanks

Well, it isn''t about afford to me personally, it is about value for money. But, yes, of the two you posted I would probably opt for the G because I like the color, although there is no price listed for the H so I cannot really make a complete assessment between the two. Both have good numbers and nice images so you can take your pick in my mind.

Yssie I am no expert on hearts and don''t see anything funky, but like you said, maybe someone like Jet or Lorelei or Stone will post. Or maybe they are having holidays
