hi all~

i need help deciding if a 1.15 ct E/SI1 stone which i came across today is a good buy!
it was completely eye-clean, and under 10x magnification, the inclusion were well located and whitish in color.
i thought it was a good find, and the price was ~$8000usd (tax included), which i thought was reasonable.

however, i'm slightly concerned with it's larger-than-ideal table (58%) and crown angle (35.5)... am i too obsessed with %? or would its number combination be a red light?

GIA: 2126952889
carat wt: 1.15

could someone please give me some guidance about how its percentages/angles are?

also, the dimension of the 1.15ct E/SI1 is 6.69-6.71mm x 4.11mm.
is the diameter and/or height below normal values?
does it make the diamond too "shallow" in dimension?

please advise! i'm making the decision to put down the deposit tomorrow morning! thanks!

Hoping Gypsy sees this post - she's a WHIZ at step cuts!

sorry, there's a typo in the report #.
correction:

GIA: 2126952899
carat wt: 1.15

any suggestion is greatly appreciated! :D

passing on some advice from someone much more experienced than I in these things! Hope the info is helpful for you:

* Table size is not too large at all. EC tables are fine up to 64 and even over if the crown height is high enough.
* Those measurements HAVE to be wrong. A one carat stone at: 6.69-6.71mm x 4.11mm is 1) square so it's an asscher "square emerald cut" on the certificate and 2) Faces up like a 2 carat asscher and there is no way. So one of those measurements are wrong.
* check out some GOG videos on emerald cuts to see how good and bad ones perform.
* Do not buy ANY stone without a full return policy. Take it home and photograph it for PS (post pics!) to provide you with more help.
* The price is WAY HIGH for that stone. Here is a price comp (there is no picture, but this is for price comparison only): http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/E-SI1-Very-Good-Cut-Emerald-Diamond-1423612.asp that stone should not cost over 7k EVEN in a brick and mortar retail store.

and http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/D-SI1-Very-Good-Cut-Emerald-Diamond-1517747.asp overpriced -should be getting a larger D VS2 for that price such as: http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/D-VS2-Good-Cut-Emerald-Diamond-1398088.asp

hi, thank you for the info provided.

it's actually a round brilliant cut 1.15 ct E/SI1, not an emerald cut or asscher.
the dimension is 6.69~6.71 mm (minimum diameter~maximal diameter) x 4.11mm (height)

below is a link to its GIA report:

please let me know if you have more thoughts! thanks!

that is a good price for a round.

None of your links are working, but your stone looks great! For an E SI1, that is a great price!

Hi, the numbers on the GIA report you gave came up as 1.4 on the HCA which is excellent. Hopefully I did it right but it looks great being under a 2.

I used the numbers from the GIA you posted.

depth at 61.3
Table 58
Crown angle 35.5
Pavilion angle 40.6

Looks like a very nice stone if its eye clean. Not sure on price, I'm clueless on that part.

I checked the PS database and found the pricing to be in-line with PS vendors' for a similar ct weight E/SI1 with GIA 3X that also scores within 1 - 2 on the HCA. Seems like the stone should be a performer and it's good that you've verified that it is eye clean enough for you.
