*Urgent* Please critique this diamond.

62.3%; 55%; 35.6; 40.3
HCA: 0.9

Please take a look at this EGL sheet. ** Please note - I'm mainly going in to look at the CUT difference between a 5.5 on the HCA and a 0.9. I had already purchased that 5.5 before I learned about the HCA tool. I have a 30-day return period. According to the HCA, this EGL diamond should easily outperform my 5.5

As in this^ thread, tomorrow I'm going to see how much weight the HCA tool holds. the 0.9 should blow my 5.5 out of the water. We'll see.. GIA Ex Ex Ex HCA 5.5 vs EGL Ideal+ HCA 0.9

1. That IS is not a useful photo. I don't know if it was taken on red paper or if the contrast was dialed way up afterward or what happened, exactly, but it was not taken using Garry's guide on www.ideal-scope.com and delivered as taken. It's not needed here anyway though, since you've posted a good face-up pic.

2. "Cut quality" is determined not by HCA score but by proportions and how those proportions work together.
Score < 2 = likely worth further investigation.
Score < 2 != automatic winner strictly by HCA score w/o further investigation.
Score > 2 != automatic booger strictly by HCA score w/o further investigation.
I would not be surprised to see some obstruction issues w/ an averaged & rounded 40.3 pav w/ that crown/table

3. It is perfectly fine to comment and question - I do it often myself - but your phrasing has an air of "I'm gonna show 'em" that rubs me the wrong way. The expertise Garry used to develop, hone, and qualify the HCA tool is going to be neither validated nor invalidated with a sample size of two, and attempting to use HCA to select a stone is misusing the tool per the designer's own specifications for use.

Here's the diamond with the camera reflecting, darkening the diamond. Are these examples of obstruction?

It's not likely t be a GIS VS1, either.

That's what we mean by obstruction, yeah - facets reflecting what's in front of them. It's only a problem with the stone is proportioned such that facets still go dark face-up at normal viewing distances - like when you lean over to admire it - any stone is going to be over-obstructed w/ a camera a few cm in front, that's not a concern

Likely less of an issue if she's fair and blonde - facets reflecting light colours won't go as dark even w/ lack of direct light as facets reflecting darker browns/blacks

No - shallower is the problem actually, that's why I'm concerned about pairing a 40.3 pav with a 35.5crown and 55table. Those proportions *can* work together well, depending as well on lgf - but since the numbers are averaged around eight sections of diamond, and since we have no idea what went into those averages, how much variation there is... optical + physical facet-meet symmetry is a pretty good indicator (but I have no faith at all in that H&A assertion since we have no info on how they determined that)... I would not be surprised if there are over-obstruction issues.

I was going to say too: that IS looks super doctor'ed up or something!
