PS has not steered me wrong yet so I''m here for more advice on this last leg of the journey. My ring from WF is set to ship tomorrow. I got the pictures this afternoon. I am not loving the prongs. I love the v-tips and asked for those especially. I like the looks of them on the rings I have seen in pictures and in person, and the fact that they are more secure for a princess. My prongs, however, look SO SO pointy and severe. Is it just the pictures or are some v-tips a bit softer? Could I ask them to round off the very very tips a bit to make them less pointy? I am not crazy about the looks but I also am a little worried that they are going to be scratching my kids. Are they all super pointy at first and soften with wear? This is such a huge step for us to be buying this ring after all the years of saving for it and talking about it. Am I just freaking out? The look I am going for is like February2003bride''s original princess. I''ll post a pic for comparison. I sent WF a picture of her ring also so they could see exactly what I had in mind. I will be anxious for responses since my ring is scheduled to be shipped tomorrow afternoon. Opinions and advice would be GREATLY appreciated. Am I just freaking out about the prongs or is this something I should have changed?

I''m sure the outside corners could be softened a bit if that''s what you like. You just need to express that to WF clearly.

And really, it''s all about what will make you happy here, so if you want them "softer" you should have them softer if it is at all possible!

I have a cathedral set princess cut diamond with corner prongs too. I think sometimes the close-up photos exagerate the look of the prongs. I would wait until you get it and look at in person before worrying.

I can''t wait to see your new ring. Post when you get it!! It will be nice to have another princess cut lover on the boards!

Her pics are blurry so it''s hard to tell what exactly they looked like. I like yours. I wouldn''t round them. They would be rounded by hand, most likely... so they''ll be uneven and won''t perfectly match one another which would bug the heck out of me personally.

You prongs look picture perfect to me.
As long as the edges are gently rounded and polished it will not scratch and will be fine.
The pictures arent big enough to make sure that is the case but it looks like it.
Since you are worried about it ask someone at WF to run a finger over them and make sure they are gently rounded and polished enough.
Round them too much and they dont look good they should be crisp and smooth but not sharp.

I think they look just about perfect.

Ditto.

I agree - just have someone at WF run their fingers over the prongs just to be sure, but I think it will look fine in real life.

To tell you the truth, I wasn't sure about my ring before it shipped, and was going to ask for more photos to check it out, but they had already shipped it. The prongs look beautiful in real life, I was suprised as they looked so large and obvious in the photos.

Hope you love the real thing - don't forget to post pics asap!!

ETA Love the yellow gold!!!!!! My ering is ygold and I just love the look of it!! It's nice to see it around, it's not common on PS, but everytime I see it, I sit up and take another look. Yummy!!!!

I agree with the others, i like these prongs in general with princesses and I really like yours - pls don''t fret, i''m sure it will be lovely IRL! things have a way of looking skewed in photos..

Thanks so much for all the encouragement! I knew I could get some genuine feedback here

I can go to bed and actually sleep now. I will double check with WF that the corners are polished and smooth and then wait and see how it looks IRL. When I look at the pictures now I am not feeling that same level of anxiety I did at first. I guess there is just so much wrapped up in this purchase that I am easily freaked out. I''m going to do my best to just relax and enjoy the anticipation until my ring arrives on Wed. Thanks again for the advice to all who posted and thanks for the compliments also. I will be sure to post pictures soon!

Personally I like them just the way they are.

I think they look fine too. I don''t think WF would make prongs that are sharp. I also think they look more exaggerated in close up shots, once its on the hand it will be beautiful

Here is a link for February2003bride''s ring that is the look I am shooting for.

Oh wow! That''s my original engagement ring that I miss so so dearly!

Prong corners can be softened and I had to have mine softened a bit as well. The first few weeks I had mine, I would find scratches on me or my DH that we wouldn''t remember even getting! Once the were softened just a bit, it was smooth sailing from then on.

I think your ring looks gorgeous!

Please post handshots when you get it!!

I have a chevron prong set princess too. When I had the jeweller set it, I specifically asked for and got clean crisp chevrons that were perfect for me. The designer sketched the ring and I approved by initialing the sketch.

I really dislike seeing what appears to me to be "ears" at the top, and "feet" at the bottom holding a diamond. They may be sturdy, but they look like overkill to me. JMHO.

The only picture that shows "feet" in yours is #2 and that could be because of the tilt.

Februrary2003bride, your ring was my computer wallpaper for weeks! I was so happy to find your threads on choosing between the 2mm and 3mm band. I went with the 2mm, although they both look beautiful. Thank you so much for your comments! I talked with James at WF this morning and he assured me that the corners are very nicely polished and smooth, not as pointy as they might appear in the pictures. He also said that if I need them altered any more they will be glad to do that. I like a softer look so I would be ok with it if I didn''t have that perfect crisp point, but I''ll wait and see how it looks IRL.

Isabel, I think you are right. I looked at all three pictures and the only one that really looks severe is the one looking straight down on the top of the ring. I looked at some pictures I have of the ring I tried on at the mall that got this whole thing started and it has really pointy looking corners in the picture (same angle) also. But I tried that ring on and liked it and have no recollection of thinking anything negative about the corners.

Tomorrow is d-day! I had my nails done (only the second time in my life I''ve ever done that) just for the occasion. Come on Fed Ex guy! I''ll post pictures as soon as I can!

Thanks to all!!!

I think you will like it;.

you have to remember these pictures are magnified

I agree, it is so hard to tell with these magnified pictures, but I think your ring (& prongs) look beautiful.
For what it''s worth, I had the v-tip on my pear filed down a bit because it was way pointy, it was no problem at all.

Congrats to you, Skippy! I just saw the note of appreciation posted on the main forum page. So cool! This place is wonderful! I love learning and I LOVE getting the most for my money! PS members like you have made this forum what it is and you should be very proud of that. I am referring everyone I know to this forum before they buy any diamond jewelry.

PS Just got tracking info from WF... Houston, we have confirmation

It is on the way!

Your ring is gorgeous! I can''t wait to see pictures of it on your hand. I am sure if you decide you don''t like the prongs, WF will fix them for you.

I think the prongs look perfect! Plus the super magnified images always look very different than real life. I remember when I got sent my pictures from WF I was the same way, but then when I got the ring it was just perfect. It''s a gorgeous ring, by the way-I can''t wait to see real life pics!

I think that it''s lovely as it is. Maybe get them to run a finger over it but otherwise I like it as it is.

your ring is stunning and the prongs are perfect................truly

I am sure you will be happy with the ring once you see it in person. These pics blow everything up and make details like that more exaggerated that they are in real life. post tons of pics when you receive it!

Thanks so much to everyone for the words of encouragement! I am feeling better about my ring and feel certain that it will be like many of you have said, the details are very exaggerated by the huge pictures. When I look at the pictures now I just am seeing the ring I fell in love with. I think I just freaked out a bit at the idea that after waiting so long, my ring might not be the perfect ring I have been picturing in my mind. Now, if the Fed Ex truck would only pull up in my driveway!!! Delivery is scheduled for today before 4:30. Tracking says my ring is on the truck en route to me. It''s 3:30, so maybe within the hour I will be looking at my new ring!!! I''ll post lots of pictures! Thanks again. This forum has saved me again!!!
