I thought you guys may enjoy this,
I came across it while browsing Flikr.
In Jeweller Scott Schreiber's words -

"Touching a Ruby"
This Crossing button is right outside my house. I made a custom-fit brass bezel to fit over the original one and set a cabochon Madagascar Ruby in it. It gives me pleasure every time I see little kids trying, without success, to get their moms to look at the pretty red button.

How fun! I love "guerilla" art like this..

He's also a very skilled jeweller with lots of lovely work in his stream..

How KOOL is that!

ugh, didn''t realize couldn''t link to Flikr..
here is some more of what he says about the project, and his user name is Two Claws Jewelry if anyone is interested

"I just think it''s funny....though I did think it might confirm my eccentric streak. It just tickles me that people don''t know they''re banging away at a genuine ruby! I get a lot of foot traffic at this corner and believe me, adults just don''t even glance at it....teen girls, sometimes....but many little kids (it''s at eye-level for them) really scrutinize it."

I know its not really the place for it, but I couldn''t believe how beautiful this engraved piece of his was too - very talented, I would love to commission
something from him one day!

I''m surprised, though, that someone hasn''t tried to pry that ruby off....
LS

p.s. LOVELY ring too.

going to get a chisel to remove the ruby....

How cool is that?!

I love it! I especially love that it''s kids who notice it!

It has a precedent in push buttons (like Faberge) but for a crossing sign? How cool is that?

I''m glad you guys enjoyed it too, I thought it was awesome.
I wish someone did fun stuff like that in my neighbourhood!

I''ve been chatting just now with Scott on flikr, he is really nice and has some extremely creative and well executed work.

I think I may have found a new vice for perusing and getting my jewellery fix, lol..
